Sad news: I started this blog last night at work (on a PC) and I wrote a good portion of it. When I returned to it, it asked me to log in, and deleted my stories. So here I go again. P.S. This is a couple weeks old at this point. The last few weeks have been a whirlwind. Mostly because of drama/frustration/lack of communication at work. This includes working Saturdays, which means 6 day work weeks with 1 day off. The good part of the whirlwind was our FIRST and possibly only, visitor! Jeanne has already come and gone. It was SO wonderful to have someone from home here and get to show them our life here. I know she enjoyed seeing the places and things we experience everyday. She also reminded us how different/foreign ... read more

As I was finishing my hair so I could finally get out of the house for the day and go do something, a torrential downpour began. This happens a lot these days in Korea. I think it rains more here than in Seattle. So here I am, blogging. :) Jeju Island. Korea's romantic honeymoon destination. It was great and beautiful! But not what I have in mind for my honeymoon. Ha ha. From what we had heard, it sounded like it'd be like Hawaii filled with restaurants and shopping. Let's just say it seemed more Korean than the city we live in. We actually had a pretty difficult time finding things in English and ordering food but I think this is because of the area where we stayed. Near our hotel, we couldn't find a single ... read more

Yes, it's been a while. But, in my defense, I've been THINKING about writing for 2 or 3 weeks now. It's the thought that counts. A lot has happened since I last wrote. In 5 days we will celebrate 6 months since we flew out of Seattle. I am almost halfway done! It has gone by really fast but when I see pictures of my niece, it seems like it's been a while. She looks like she's 7 and she just turned 2! Other than missing people at home, we've been working everyday, and mostly staying in Cheongju in an effort to save some money. We got two new teachers at our school and that brought with it some changes. We are excited to have some new people around here though! We started a new 13 ... read more

Nearly a MONTH has flown by since my last post. Things have been very busy around here with summer intensives. We are teaching classes in the morning and all afternoon/evening. I work every MWF in the morning and Jake works every TR in the morning. We are at the school from 9am-1pm and then we have to be back at 3pm until 10pm. It makes for a long day....and long weeks! Also, we've traveled somewhere every weekend so we're nearing the point of exhaustion! But it's been so fun and I'm sad that summer is nearly gone. But that won't stop me from making the best out of the rest of it. Since I've written, we went to Boryeong, which is a beach town a couple hours away on the coast of the Yellow Sea. Funny story here... Let me start with the weekend. Our bodies and our wallets begged us to stay home this last weekend. I'm glad we did because it rained most of the time and it wouldn't have been too fun traveling in that. On Saturday we took the scooter out most of the day....Nick, Jake and I. Three people on the scooter....in a torrential downpour. We were absolutey drenched. We pulled up to the Nike Outlet and all the women of course had umbrellas and heels on. We got a few stares in our soaked rain coats and helmets, but we're used to that. After Nike, the weather cleared up a bit. Since we were in another part of town we don't usually go to (thanks to Vicki) we decided to explore a little bit and ... read more

I am happy to report that I had perfect cooperation during my 10 minute surgery on Saturday. Lasik was a huge success and I feel great! All I want to say is: EVERYONE should do this!! Saturday, Jake and I took a bus to Seoul and grabbed Dunkin with just enough time to arrive at my appointment at 2pm. The Dream Eye Center is in Myeongdong, which has got to be the busiest area of Seoul. It's packed with Koreans and foreigners shopping and eating. The place is great but it gets frustrating really easily, considering you can't move without running into someone. (which unfortunately, is something koreans don't mind doing). Anyway, the second I walked in the nurses were ready to get going. I was shocked at how quickly everything went because although I was ... read more

It's almost 1AM and I've just returned from scooting around Cheongju with Jake. As of Tuesday, Jake is a 2 time scooter owner. Nancy and Vicky. It was great to get see other parts of Cheongju. I have not seen much of this city because we walk to and from work everyday and that's about it. Otherwise, we are in a taxi or on a bus, and on the weekends we are usually out of town. Jake has been cycling everyday for about 3 months now so he has seen much more of the city than I have, and he promised to show me as soon as he got the scooter. So tonight after work, he played tour guide. We picked up McDonalds downtown and then went up to a lookout where you can see most ... read more

I heard about a weekend trip to Inje from a friend I met during training. It included paint balling, white water rafting, atv riding and optional bungy jumping. After checking to be sure that both the Korea vs. Greece game, and the US vs. England game WOULD be showing where we were staying, I got Jake and two other friends to sign up. We left from Cheongju Saturday and made the bus trip to Seoul JUST in time to meet another bus full of foreigners that were going on our trip. Then we had another 2 hour bus drive to Inje. Let me start with the bus drive. I lost count at some point, but we went through at least 12 tunnels. Each of these tunnels was built into beautiful, green, luscious mountains! It was gorgeous! ... read more

It's already been a month since this trip but I want to keep up with my blogging and it was too good of a weekend to skip....so here it is! Jake and I finally made it back to Seoul for the first time since our training. We quickly realized that we saw ABSOLUTELY NOTHING during training. We saw our hotel, and we saw the training center and that is it. We got up early on a Saturday and took a taxi to the bus station and then got on a rather fancy bus to Seoul. The trip can be anywhere from one hour to two. Usually about 1 and half but later when we rode it back at night...the bus driver was in a hurry.... We got to the bus station in Seoul and really had ... read more

Good news!! So I woke up this morning and despite not feeling too great, I knew I had to check out the rest of the hiking trail so I finally got myself together and went. I kept walking...for what seemed like forever but maybe it was an hour or less. This trail, this mountain, goes on forever! And the start of it is right by my house and I never would have known. It was BRIGHT green everywhere and so beautiful. There isn't an ugly part on the entire trail. My curiosity to see where the trail led kept me going but I was starting to get worried about making it to work on time. I had no idea what time it was and no water...ha ha but I kept going. I finally reached a gazebo, ... read more
