39 Steps
So glad you enjoyed The 39 steps. Sadly it is closing but it has had a good run! Just for completeness the current list of London shows with a matinee on a Tuesday (in addition to The 39 Steps) is The Woman In Black, The Mousetrap and Jersey Boys

Aren't you glad you speak English?
Imaging making that trip in a language you don't read or speak! You might still be on a train or platform somewhere. This is the sort of story that encourages us to do especially our international travelling earlier than later, when we have both the physical stamina and mental agility (or vice versa?) to accommodate life as it happens.

Aren't you glad you speak English?
That's why I take tours in countries that are strange to me. Let the experts solve the problems.

The Highway Man came riding comma
Hah! I remember Lorna making me listen to her recite that poem with punctuation said aloud, for some class assignment. How to butcher poetry appreciation. Your photos make me consider adding Cornwall to my List. After all, I've been on the other end of Land's End at Cape Spears (as have you, yes?).

Ominous start to the day
"Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning." Do you remember The Great Race, with Tony Curtis? That's where I first heard this weather ditty, from the character played by Peter Falk, henchman and foil to the villain, played by Jack Lemmon. Thanks for the memory . . . As for the donkey, I bet he's glad of the changing scenery provided by passers-by.

Ominous start to the day
Glad you had a trip down memory lane. The saying was one of my father's favourites.

Presentation
Interesting that they would set the sculptures among plants that obscure their edges a little bit - presumably intentional. This is why I am not an artist . . . On another note, the beach looks a bit chilly. Did you see/find any interesting shells?

Presentation
I think the sculptures are in the garden in part to make them seem organic, since they are made of a natural material. No shells found - cold and blustery, thus too wet for wandering.

Unusual place names
Praze-an-beeble? Not to mention some other truly odd (i.e. non-English-sounding although in England) placenames. What's with Cornwall?

Unusual place names
Well, Cornwall has a Celtic past that aligns with Wales and Brittany in France.

Cornwall/St Ives
lovely pix. One of my sculpture heroes lived and worked in St Ives: Barbara Hepworth. I am definitely envious. Nice seagull photo! Why do seagulls look like the are about to commit a mugging?

Cornwall/St Ives
Barbara Hepworth sculptures are inspiring and photos will be coming. More seagulls this week!

Welcome from seagulls

Nice shots!
But watch that first (cliff) step! It's a doozy. As for the weather, I'm curious. Was rain likely when you were there? It looks wonderful on a bright, sunny (if not too hot) day. How far/long did you walk each day?

Welcome from seagulls

Nice Shots!
Thanks, I am glad you like the photos - they are some of my favourites. We had every kind of weather in Cornwall, including beautiful sunny days. We walked about 10 km daily, except when we got a bit lost, which added an undetermined but seemingly infinite distance to the walk.

Walking tours
I love walking tours. I understand the internet has dramatically changed them (in large markets anyway), with apps for sale that guide you on your (presumably) smart phone, providing commentary as you go. Your idea of getting the live version from the on-site volunteers/staff was an inspiration - I bet it made their day, too.

Walking tours
Nothing beats an enthusiastic person!

Boy, I'm with you - I think that was amazingly speedy, given the times. What a fabulous structure!

Considering Ken Follett wrote Pillars of the Earth, detailing how long cathedral building can take, the construction of Bath Abbey must represent civic determination.

Random thoughts
Our best meals in Scotland were Indian food, from St. Andrews to Edinburgh. Did they build that bridge with the shops on it, or did they come later? What a great weir! It just shows what a little design flair can do.

Random Thoughts
Thanks for your musings. Pulteney Bridge design included the shops, although they have changed over the years, of course.

Fabulous
Great video. With so much of the world available to us online and on TV, it's good to be reminded that there really is nothing quite like being there. I keep thinking how tickled Jane would be, to think of all this fuss over her.

Fabulous
I would love to read the novel Jane Austen would write about her world-wide popularity.
