I started this blog when I was about to go abroad for the first time, right after my freshman year. I went to spain for 6 weeks, where I lived with a family in Segovia. It was so amazing and I was hooked! I returned to europe my junior year where I spent two whole semesters in Salzburg, Austria! I am still catching up on finishing and matching those travel blogs with pics...after that year I went to Italy to live in Florence, Italy with my boyfriend for the summer. Well, he came to Portland for the winter and he proposed! So here I am back (post graduation) in Florence (this time for good!), and we both love to travel and my goal is to keep a record of each travel.

London: Thursday 24 – Friday 25 So I leave Salzburg at like 16.11 after like running to the train station. I had to book my hostel and Wicked tickets because I had just got my debit card the day before. It was crazy to book stuff right before leaving. So we go take the train and we arrive at the airport and the check in line for me was huge! But I got through fairly fast and realized that I had an hour till I could go to my plane. So I went to sleep and got on my plane and slept more. However the plane landed late and then the line to get through customs was so long it took over 2 hours! So by the time I got on the National Express to get ... read more

The Italy Half of the Trip: Day 1- The boat (Feb. 27) and day 2- Pompeii (Feb. 28) Today we woke up in Olympia, technically still Greece but the day ended in us going to Italy, and to talk about the boat and how we spent our time and have it make sense the earlier events have to be explained, and I might as well just start at the beginning. So we take our tour of Olympia, starting in the Museum. It was pretty cool and we saw the pediments from the temples and so many offering statues which you never really get tired of seeing. We then went Sanctuary. It wasn’t in the best condition but in much better condition than some places we have been, like Delphi. It was interesting to see the division, ... read more

1023/10- 10/24/10 So Thursday night was symphony. It was a nice symphony. I am not a particular Mahler fan, but he is not bad, just not my style. I sat next to Pat and he fell asleep and started snoring. Afterwards we were all dressed up and it was still early. Not quite ready to go back, Pat, Erin and I decided to go have a quick drink at O’Malley’s before heading home. It was fun and when we got back we realized that we still had to cook! Being geniuses, we realized that we would save a lot of money if we packed one or two meals instead of eating all our meals in restaurants. However we got back so late that we were cooking until 2 am. Then we got up around 4 am ... read more

Vienna (Sept. 23- Sept. 26, 2010) This is our first school trip. These, I will find, are the best and worst trips. The best because you don’t have to do research about where to go, what to see, where to stay, or where to eat. And best of all you don’t have to pay for anything so you don’t stay in an hostel and eat kebabs, instead you stay in nice hotels and have full meals (several courses) made and served by the hotel. But you have no free choice of what you want to do and you have to wake up super early. I remember in Paris there were soo many things I wanted to see but I didn’t have time because our free time generally began after 3:30 or 4. The first day of ... read more

Sorry it has taken so long for a second entry! So the first weekend I was here has crazy. For one I arrived a day late so I missed everything. I missed the orientation, I missed the instructions and just the basic living protocol. Then after being sick and traveling for two days I find out the next day we have to be up at 8 am for a tour that will last all day. I arrived Thursday night. So we spend all day Friday on tours that frankly were not that great, and while some were kind of cool they just tried to cram way too much in. And some of it I understand is important to them because it’s a huge part of their history but to us it was just another boring old ... read more

So I spent the more than 48 hours trying to get from Spokane to Salzburg. I left home monday night at 4 am. I arrived thurday 6 pm, salzburg time. During this amazing adventure I kept a running blog to track the beauties of my travels. Here it is: Why I Love Airports and Flying While no flight is as distinctive as that of one going to Spokane, I have started to notice that on every flight you can discern patterns and group. Spokane flyers tend to be a veritable who’s who of what can go seriously wrong with humanity. They are strange and usually grotesque looking people with an interesting mix of very noticeable attributes that include no attention to what they are wearing, a lack of social skills, even less personal hygiene and an ... read more

Monday I only have 1 class (2 every other week). I have German Conversation class with Rene, which is only on Mondays, and then the ÖSD prep class which is every other Monday, and is to prepare us for the fluency test we take at the end of the year. I find this to be the perfect way to start the week. My first class isn’t even until 1030 and then I have the whole afternoon off. We got out about half an hour before lunch. For lunch there is a business that I think is an art gallery that is quite large and has a cafeteria in it which is less than a five minute walk away so we walk there for lunch everyday. We get an hour and a half for lunch everyday but ... read more

So this is my pre-trip blog. I leave in 5 days. Im not really nervous, except that I dont think my german is nearly sufficient. I kind of see this as a test run. I want to live in europe. And Ill be there for 9 months. Perfect, right? Well so packing is kinda a bitch. I mean I have to get all this stuff over there but I have to have room for the stuff I want to bring back...Plus I want to travel afterwards which means I have to haul it with me. Idk. Also how ridiculous is it that my international weather button has all the small towns near salzburg, but not salzburg. And it turns out its already cool and cloudy there! Irritating. My lasts days are so busy. I mean today ... read more

Ok since my last entry we went to Salamanca which was totally cool...haha I slept on the bus which was actually quite uncomfortable haha. But yah salamanca was alot like Segovia, much more so than Madrid. It was definetly bigger and older. We saw the University of Salamanca, which is one of the oldest in Europe. The churches were very beautiful. The outside (and most of the inside) was covered in ornate carvings. Also there was a like frog carved on top of a skull carving which apparently if you find without help you will get married within a year but I couldnt find it, but I didnt try that hard because I dont particularly care to get married. Anyway on the inside of the church we went to there was like a zillion little shrines ... read more

K so the last entry I fell asleep doing and cant really figure out how to continue on it haha so I will just do a new one as a continue haha. So Corpus Christi apparently was a synagogue built like 700 years ago and then during the inquisition it was converted to a church and thats how it stands today. And the story of the devil in the aqueduct is so great! Apparently there was like really pretty girl and she was a laundry lady with her mom but there are only two rivers in segovia and she lived on the hill so she had to walk to far everyday to get water everyday and one afternoon she said I would sell my soul if I woke up tomorrow and there was water flowing next ... read more
