We've been home for 6 weeks, but we thought we'd finish this blog properly whilst we are still bumming around looking for a job. We spent over two enjoyable and chilled weeks in Brazil mostly lazing around on the beach. From La Paz, we decided to get ourselves to Rio as quickly as possible. Its fair to say that this journey was an epic. We flew from La Paz to the Bolivia/Brazil Border via Santa Cruz which was the most straightforward part of the journey. The airport at the border was interesting as there were none of the usual baggage carousels and facilities you get at airports - it did the job though. At Corumba, we spent a day in this border town before catching a bus to Sao Paulo. The bus was fairly comfortable but ... read more

Hello, we´ve been in Brazil for 10 days now so time for a quick update of our two weeks in Peru. We spent the time in southern Peru visiting the main tourist spots. The first stop was Puno on Lake Titicaca. The city is only 3 hours from the Bolivian border and we didn´t notice too many differences except that it became immediately obvious that Peru is a mass tourist destination. Puno itself was fairly attractive and we spent an afternoon visiting the unique floating islands a short boat ride from town. This trip has become pretty commercialized - the only islands we visited were those containing souvenir stalls and cafes - but it was still something different and the islands were made from edible reeds, making it the only place we´ve been to that you ... read more

Hi everyone, its us again, hope you´re all ok. We´re both really well and have had a great time in Bolivia for the past month or so. Our last destination in Argentina was Salta and from here we caught an early morning bus to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. At the bus terminal, we had a lucky escape as a thief grabbed Andrew´s bag and did a runner. Fortunately another traveller (who was more on the ball than us) spotted him and alerted us. Andrew set off in hot pursuit (with help from another lad), although by this stage the thief realised he´d been spotted, dropped the bag and pretended to be having an in-depth conversation on his mobile. Salta was nice and Argentina felt so safe that we´d dropped our guard, this was a ... read more

Hello everyone, we´ve now been in South America for over a month, so this is an update of our time in Chile and Argentina. So far we´ve had a brilliant time and have met loads of friendly travellers. We arrived in Santiago and it was a gentle introduction to the new continent. It feels very european, both architecturally and culturally. Chile´s status as South Americas richest country was evident from the numerous shopping malls and parades in the city centre and there are lots of bars and cafes. We were thrown into the deep end with the new language, luckily Kim saved the day (big shout out to Miss Murphy) as Andrew only knew words that had been in Ricky Martin songs. We enjoyed wandering around the city but we were badly jet-lagged. We had gone ... read more

Hey everyone, we are running a bit behind on our updates. We´ve been in S. America for nearly 3 weeks now so before we forget, its about time we did a report on our time in New Zealand. Unfortunately we only had two weeks in NZ (in hindsight it definitely warranted more) due to financial constraints - Australia rinsed us! Although in our last blog we moaned a lot about our campervan, we decided that the best way to travel round NZ was to hire another one! As it turned out, we made the right decision because it was cheap, reliable and allowed us to get round both the North & South Islands relatively quickly. There was only one tricky moment, when we couldn´t shift the transmission from park to drive. Luckily we soon realised that ... read more

Hey everyone, here is the second instalment of our Australian journey. This one covers our trip up the east coast from Sydney to Cairns in a “hippie” camper van. Prepare to see a lot of photos of us by the sea! By the way if you’re still reading our blogs - thank you. You’ve got the patience of a saint! We picked up our blue “hippie” camper from Sydney where Dee waved us off. It was reasonably spacious and was a familiar looking Ford Transit which included everything we needed like a fridge, utensils, linen, etc. The colour scheme was quite lary - it definitely put the “camp” into camper! Overall, our first impressions were quite positive despite the lady from the hire company saying that “these old ones tend to break down quite a lot ... read more

Hello everyone, hope you're all well and enjoying the snow in April!? We've spent the last few weeks in a van travelling up the east coast which means that we've been a bit lax on keeping our blog up to date. However we've arrived in a town called Bowen, unfortunately its too windy to snorkel and our only alternative entertainment is bingo at the church hall, so we've decided to do an update. After leaving India, we arrived at Sydney airport looking forward to cleanliness, western food and anonymity. Dee picked us up with a packet of wine gums in hand and on the journey from the airport we knew we were back in the first world. The streets were clean, cars stopped at traffic lights, there wasn’t a cow or tout in sight and our ... read more

Hello everybody I hope that you are all well, thanks again for all your wonderful congratulation emails, we have really enjoyed reading them. Since arriving in Sydney a week ago, we have had a great time hanging out with Dee & Dave in Coogee, Sydney. It has been a very welcome change to the chaos of India and there has already been many highlights including an aussie barbie, a homecooked roast dinner, crunchy nut cornflakes and cheddar cheese! Before we begin on our Australian adventure we will just write a short update on how we spent our last few weeks in India. We caught a sleeper from Goa to Kerala and we knew we were back in India proper when we were woken the next morning by a vendor shouting "chaaiiii, chaaiii!" It was a 15 ... read more

February 10th 2008

Hello everybody, the last few weeks of our Indian journey have differed somewhat. The first two weeks comprised frenetic travelling across the incredible state of Rajasthan and then onto Goa via Mumbai. The last two weeks have involved chilling out on a beautiful, palm fringed Goan beach, the latter being a great antidote to the former. After leaving Rishikesh, we had a nine hour bus journey back to Delhi which gave us a taste of things to come. We stopped in Delhi for the night before catching the early train to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Fortunately we had arranged a pick up from the station with our hotel, as after alighting from the train we were mobbed by at least 50 rickshaw drivers. We've learnt that rickshaw drivers don't listen, because despite telling them countless ... read more

Hello all, we trust you had a very happy Christmas and New Year! We did miss everyone. Andrew is still in recovery after missing out on his "favourite meal of the whole year," his mum has promised to cook a Christmas dinner especially when we get back in September! Gifts from each other were a bit disappointing and very fleeting, on Christmas Eve we exchanged mini-toblerones then sat in our hotel and ate them in 2 seconds flat. After this we started to dream of cheese and biscuits, rose's chocolates, pigs in blankets and brussel sprouts (actually on second thoughts!) all of which seemed to be unavailable in Delhi. Don't feel too sorry for us though, as after all we are on a year-long holiday! Anyway back to India, our first port of call was Varanasi ... read more
