Hey peeps, its been a while but lets see if I can accurately recall my recent 5 weeks spend in Indonesia. Happy reading I arrived In Jakarta (JKT), via Doha, roughly 9:30pm & adhered to the instructions forwarded to me by Liz. They were spot on & I arrived at Sudirman Park to a warm welcome by her We spent a couple of hours catching up over a hubbly & discussed our Singapore race weekend (see previous blog) in a couple of days time before we called it a night. I was only in JKT for a couple of days before we headed to Singapore. After a successful & enjoyable race weekend in Singapore, just over a mere 48hrs later we were back in Indonesia which would be my home for just over a month. And ... read more

Hello again & "Selamat Detang" (welcome)! It's been nearly 18 months since my last blog which of course means, unfortunately, that I have not traveled for a while! Far too long for my liking of course but there are some good explanations for this, like pursuing an entrepreneurial career. This blog, however, is not the forum to discuss those explanations & so my last comment on it is that I have rectified the situation, thankfully, & so hence this blog Originally my trip to Indonesia was supposed to be for 4 weeks but I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation from my dear friend Liz to partner her in The North Face (TNF) Challenge in Singapore to form part of an all South African (SA) team. An invite which was too good to refuse & ... read more

Hey again peeps....& welcome to an information overload blog from my fantastic 3 weeks in London - please enjoy ;-) My 3 weeks in London has simply flown by, literally! & typing up this blog, upon reflection, I have done more than I realised. It's true what they say: Time flies when you having fun! This fun often included braving the cold weather to be in some sort of physical condition to run the half 2 Oceans race in April. My 1st day here, after settling in, I decided to do a quick 45 minute run. Not heeding Reven (my best mates advice/tip) I got lost & ended up running 1hr 45mins - lol ;-) But since then I generally had 2 routes here. The first route was along the infamous river Thames, crossing the river ... read more

Hello & welcome again to my travel blogs - been a while hey ;-) I have been getting a few emails asking what have I been up to & finally made time to fill everyone in, hence the blog ;-) My 3 weeks here have been mayhem in that I have hardly rested & been busy busy busy ;-) So I have quite a bit to write about, but this makes the blogs long & kind of boring. So I decided to add this short blog first & a semi-long one to follow - real soon ;-) The 2nd blog will highlight the majority of my time & activities in London. So as most of you are aware I swapped the warm & sunny Cape Town for 3 weeks in London. Fortunately the weather has been ... read more

Hej; God dag; Halla; Tja (Swedish & Scandinavian variations of hello ;-)) So rather late than never, here is my blog entry for Kho Phi Phi Island! Phi Phi (pronounced Pee Pee) is famous for Maya beach, the beach from the movie “The Beach”. Based on the travel guide & stories from fellow travellers, we were all looking forward to Phi Phi Island! One would be forgiven for forgetting that you in South Thailand & thinking you somewhere in Scandinavia - it is as if a tsunami hit Sweden & Norway & washed them up on Phi Phi Island - so flooded with Scandinavians it is ;-) Nevertheless the island & Scandinavians contirbuted to a beautiful time here ;-) We heeded the advice from fellow travellers & also consulted the travel guide in search for accommodation, ... read more

Greetings all.... Another island done = another blog.... Since it was to be Jay, my cousin & travel buddy, last few days of his 7 weeks travelling we left the decision of the next destination to him. So after a sensational week on Ton Sai, Krabi, & still the highlight of my trip this far, he decided on the infamous island of Phuket! Here we based ourselves in Patong; the mecca for all tourists! Where to begin??!! My time in Phuket was OK I guess. More because of the company (my 3 cousins) than Phuket itself! Patong beach itself is pretty & very similar to Cape Town, Camps Bay. Except much bigger & warmer water! The beach is packed with thousands of tourists soaking up the sun, jet skiing & para-sailing. Phuket is undoubtedly the money ... read more

Hello & welcome to another blog entry from my travels.... So a lot has changed since my last blog entry! I finished my 1 month on the Indonesian islands & thoroughly enjoyed it! Indonesia was a great & fantastic experience where I learned a heck of a lot, broadenning my horizons, & also fortutnately enough met some amazing people! Indonesia is huge so there is a lot still do there & definately somewhere I will return to sometime in the future ;-) Further changes sees us in Bangkok where we met up with 2 of my cousins who have come to share a fraction of this amazing experience with me! We caught up with them in Kho San Rd & it was certainly great to see them & also have them with for the next few ... read more

So a group of really special friends (& not to forget 1 in Borneo - Dan) & a special place on Java deserve a special mention - so hence this "different" blog. & it is with lots of fond memories that I write this blog! For the general public reading this blog, dont bother trying to read up "Salatiga" in your Lonely Planet or Rough Travellers Guide, sadly it does not feature there ;-( YET! So despite their doubts, & as a man of my word, we made the "Bali re-union" dream a reality & visited our friends we met in Bali (New Years) in their lovely home town of Salatiga - on Java! A couple of flights later from Mataram (Lombok) we were met by a few of them at Jogyakarta Airport & set on ... read more

So after a week on Gili Trawangan we headed for the more sedate Gili Air on the 4pm island hopper boat. For those not in the knowing, the island hopper is a little boat that shuttles tourists & locals between the 3 islands daily. It is roughly a 30 minute trip including a drop off/collect at the middle island, Gili Meno. But WOW! What a short trip! The seas did not seem too bad, but out there we were being tossed about & water splashing on board quite a bit! By far our worst ferry experience - ever! Thankfully we made it safely to Gili Air ;-) (Now would be a good time to mention that, for anyone traveling in Indonesia, try & pack a life jacket/vest as these are almost non existent on the usual ... read more

Hello again to everyone - hope you all having a good start to 2009! So after the busy week in Bali, we have been based on the isalnd of Gili Trawangan; Lombok! & it is exactly what needed & what we been searching for! It could not have come at a better time on the trip! After the busy week in Bali, we now feel extremely well rested after being beach bums for the past week already ;-) Wary of the safety of the ferries in South East Asia, & words from back home still ringing loudly in my ears ("becareful/catious on the ferries on that side") we decided to take the fast boat to Lombok, Gili! For nearly three times the price ($50 vs $18 on public ferry) we felt our lives are worth more ... read more
