Well folks, Just a quick update to let you all know what is going on. Bec and I arrived back home in Australia late on a friday night and our mate Matt (and his darling wife Lara) picked us up from Sydney airport - owe ya one buddy. We stayed the night there and then went back to my parents place at Wyong just in time for my sister Carly's 30th birthday party. You should have seen the look on her face - she thought I was going to be in Canada for a few more months. The look was priceless and totally worth all that evil deception that I am so against ;) So the party was good but I was very jet lagged and no drinks were had and I was the first to ... read more

So, 'Windsor' we here you say, why would they be going to Windsor??? Well Windsor is actually a cool little town just accross the river from Detroit making it the southern most town in Canada, plus it is where Mike and Kristina live so we had to go and stop in and say hi. Windsor's claim to fame other then being the southern most city in Canada and an entry point to the US is that it houses the 'Big 3' car manufacturer's - GM, Ford and Chrysler. While we were staying with Kristina and her folks, her dad took us to Ojibway which is a local forest area that grows Carolinian forest. This is special as it is the only forest of this type left in Canada, it is really nice with picnic areas, walking ... read more

We arrived in Cleveland on beautiful summers morning, after a 17 hour greyhound ride from hell. It wasnt that bad really but we didnt sleep much and the bus driver insisted on turning all the coach lights on whenever we stopped, just so you couldn't get any real sleep. Greyhound USA is vastly different to Greyhound in Canada. In Canada once you check your bags you dont have to worry about them until you reach your final destination, in the USA you have to move your own bag at every change of bus. In Canada Greyhound will board passengers with reserved tickets first (something that is not even available in the USA), then parents with children, then disabled passengers, then continuing passengers and then everyone else, in the USA it is every man for himself - ... read more

After a hectic 6 weeks on the road we decided we needed to slow down and relax on a beach for a few days. No getting up early to make sure we saw all the touristy things in each place. We had origianly thought of heading down to Miami then over to New Orleans, thankfully we didn't want to spend that much time on a bus as it seriously would have cut the number of days we have at each spot and put us in Miami when Katerina first hit and then New Orleans at about the same time Katerina went through there. We deiced on Virginia Beach it was only a day on the bus and sounded like a nice relaxing place to go for a few days. The hostel we stayed at was awesome, ... read more

Washington was really good, there are heaps and heaps of museums all of which are free - ideal for the budget conscious backpacker!!!! We took advantage of this and did a tour of the Capitol Building, wandered through the air and space museum, where Warwick would have happily spent all day! It was an interesting museum with lots of original pieces that have broken records - the 1st balloon to float around the world was there, as well as the 1st plane to fly around the world without stopping to refuel. The American history museum had so much stuff inside that we ran out of time and didn't get to see that much of it...... We did get to see the flag that inspired the American national anthem. In the war against the british - the ... read more

So after a greuling 12 hour overnight, freezing cold bus ride we made it to New York City!!! The city was amazing, not everything we expected it to be but it was still a good 2 weeks we spent there. We did all the touristy things such as Staten Island ferry so we could see the statue of liberty. I think we did this on the worst possible day as it was so smoggy!!! we caught the ferry on a sunday so you wouldn't expect there to be so much smog but unfortunately there was :( We also had a look aroung ground zero, wall street and the financial district including the first governent building, New york stock exchange, St peters church which was the church accross the street from the 2 towers, it was a ... read more

Hi again, So we are now in Ottawa which is the Capital of Canada, as far as capitals go it is so different to Canberra!!! We feel as though there is a section of the city missing - it is so quiet!!! i think the coast has more life to it than Ottawa. Don't get us wrong its nice and all but there is hardly any people wondering around, and noise its so quiet. A cool thing that ottawa has is this lock system in the canal for all the boats to use to get up and down. This was built way back before Ottawa was the capital and since the top of the canal is about 100m above the level of the river this cool little lock system was developed. We watched for at least ... read more

Hey all, So we are trekkin around at the moment. We crossed Canada, at least 5000k's in 2 and a half days. Fun huh? All this on a Greyhound bus.......... So Canada is a lot like Australia, lots and lots of flat, flat, flat farmland. The biggest difference is the colour. It is all so green out here, green, water and swamp. On the bus we went past a Bison reserve and I saw a herd of wild bison, Bec was asleep. We stayed at a really hippie hostel last night. Groovy man (but how do you say that in French?) We are in Quebec at the moment. All the roads signs and tourist info and everything is in French. In the rest of Canada everything is bilingual - but not in Quebec, only french here. ... read more

Thats what we figured so at 3:15am we are hopping on the bus and going to Toronto, we will be on the bus for about 2.5 days but we will get to see the countryside as we go!! Here we are going to tour around Quebec and Ontario for a couple of weeks and then hit the states for a month or so on the trains and work our way back upto Ottawa where we will look for jobs for winter. So anyway we are excited and don't have any plans as to where we will be when we are going ... read more
