Thursday May 28th The trip to Colca Cayon was beautiful, the roads well that is another story. They are dusty and bumpy. We went through two tunnels that are really true tunnels, just a hole in limestone and long, it was kinda scary since the guide just got done telling us how the terrain has changed due to it has been sinking over the years. The whole reason for going to the canyon was to see the deepth of the Canyon, it is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon and also to see the Condors fly. Well we expected to see 1 or 2 condors and we saw at least 25, it was amazing. Yes a condor is something we are familar with in California but these were huge and there were so many. We ... read more

South America May 26th 2009

Today was an early start to catch a boat to the Uros, floating islands and a trip to the Island of Taquile. The first two stops were two Uros. Attached are a few pictures. Walking on the islands did feel just like the books said kinda like a water bed. At the first Island we received information on the backgroud of the Uros and how they were built. We then got to tour one of the homes, the home we went into belonged to a young man who was maybe in his 20's and he had solar tv and internet, the accomodations were small but it had all he needed. He also shared his home with his girlfriend who is expecting. We then took a reed boat to the other island, these are built just for ... read more

Well it's been a while since we've posted something. This is the first afternoon we've had a few hours of downtime. Here's what we've been up to: 5/20 Wednesday We spent the the morning exploring Cusco, admired the Inca walls that still stand, did some shopping, the San Blas district and the Plaza De Armas in Cusco. We took an afternoon tour with 9 other people to see the ruins around Cusco, Qoricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Puca Pucara and the Cusco Cathedral which was amazing. We got back and went straight to bed, no dinner. By about 6pm I was exhausted due to the ... read more

Here are a few photos Hi All, We survived the rainforest and it was awesome. We got to see Cabybara's, caymans, two species of monkeys and lots of birds. We heard a Jaguar growl, but didn't see it. The lodge was nice, food was great and the only low points were the cold ride in the canoe due to a cold front came in and we got a little wet and cold on the 4 and half hour canoe ride. Also the cold showers were not my favorite but by the last night I was standing under the shower with the water on all the way, the weather had warmed up and we had just came back from a long hike. We met 3 great couples, one from Cape Cod, one from N. Carolina and one ... read more
