The Tour begins

The Wanderlust tour across America. You may ask yourself: "What is the Wanderlust Tour?" Well let me begin by saying that I love to travel. I've worked over 25 years and September 22nd, 2011 was my last day at work. I'm going into a "semi" retirement mode and plan to travel across the USA. I'm traveling with my parents and my beautiful sister in law who will join us a bit later and complete the tour with us. If you've ever heard the term "Bucket List", well, it's a list of accomplishments you want to do in your life. I'll be able to check "Travel the US" off that list.

Please join us in our adventure by viewing this blog and hopefully you'll have many laughs with us as we travel on our journey.

The Wanderlust Tour is winding down as we travel further East. Joe was relieved as this would be the last time that he had to lug all of our gear in and out the hotel. We stayed in Cleveland, Ohio and then it was a bee line to the border. Pennsylvania, New York and our Wanderlust Tour finish line, Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. At times, the pace of our trip was quick but we always took the time to stop and smell the roses. The Wanderlust Tour was a huge success! Here are some of the trip highlights: - Dancing on Burbon Street in New Orleans - Kartchner Caverns, Tucson, Arizona - Picking Up Lori in Tucson (Lori made me write this -LOL) - Standing at the rim of the Grand Canyon - Viva Las Vegas Karaoke ... read more

Have you been wondering where the Wanderlust Crew has been the past few days? We’ve been doing some heavy travelling. We crossed the rest of Utah and enjoyed the majestic views. We were thrilled to see the ski hills in Colorado especially Vale and discovered Copper Mountain, for a future ski trip. Anyone want to join us? Joe, Da and Deb were tempted to stop and ski a few runs, but decided to wait until next time. The snow capped mountains were awesome as we had just missed a snow storm. We were happy that we didn’t have to have chains on our tires...according to law, you can’t drive the roads in the winter weather without them. We drove through a tunnel, approximately 1.6 miles, through a mountain as we drove to Denver. We stayed in ... read more

Our drive through Yosemite National Park was picturesque. We took time to stop and enjoy the view and breathe the fresh, clean air. We also found 12 inch pine cones, which we were tempted to bring home, but we didn’t have enough room in the SUV and we didn’t think Mother Earth would appreciate it. We stayed in a quaint, ski resort village called Mammoth Lakes. We were warned that the bears were extra hungry and came into town every night. We slept the best yet in the cool mountain air and didn’t see or hear any bears. (Not even Joe snoring!) We spent the next day driving through “No Man, Or Woman’s Land” across Nevada. The land was desolate and we happened upon cowboy towns, tumble weed, wild horses and drove through a dust storm. ... read more

We woke up early to see Morro Rock and were delighted to see the seals that we’d heard the night before. Soon after we visited the Hearst Castle. Total decadence and abundance...we could get used to that lifestyle. We also celebrated Joe's Birthday enroute. Not far from there, we stopped to see the Elephant Seals sunning themselves on the beach of the Pacific Ocean. They had the right idea...just lay back and relax and enjoy the sunshine. We travelled up the California coast and were in awe of the beauty of the Big Sur. We ate at the Lucia Inn on their patio overlooking the ocean. Life is good. The road wound in and around the mountains giving us the most incredible views. We arrived in San Francisco and that’s when the 5th member of the ... read more

Our drive from Las Vegas to California was very scenic and at one point we drove through clouds as we crossed the mountains. Darise said it looked like we were in Heaven. It was a peaceful and beautiful moment. Soon after, we were in Los Angeles and were thrilled when we saw the Hollywood sign in the hills. We felt instantly famous and were waiting to be discovered. The next day, a dream came true for Darise as we were on The Price is Right. We didn’t get called down, but we did a lot of cheering and clapping. We were the last to leave the studio so we decided to go to contestant’s row. There we were; all four of us lined up making imaginary bids. It was fun and even the announcer, George Gray, ... read more

Another day has arrived and a new adventure awaits us. On our way to Las Vegas, we stopped at the Hoover Dam to admire the Engineering work of the dam. It's very impressive to see. They have built a new highway bridge which opened last fall and it has a pedestrian walkway to provide us a beautiful view of the dam. We continued on to Las Vegas, stayed at the Monte Carlo resort and walked Vegas' strip, had dinner, drinks, etc. There's lots of casinos, cool water display at Bellagios, Paris' eiffel Tower, etc. I can check Vegas off my "bucket list". ... read more

This morning, we packed up and drove to Canyon Ranch to pick up Lori, our 4th Wanderlust Tour member, who is joining us for the rest of the trip. She is ready and fired up to continue the adventurous journey. We drove North of Phoenix, stopped in beautiful Sedona, walked around, took pictures, watched the sunset and had dinner. We continued to Flagstaff on Rte 89A, and it was a bit hairy driving through the mountain in the dark. At times, the speed limit was down to 15 mph. The next morning, we took the Grand Canyon Railway destined for the Southridge Grand Canyon. A 2 ¼ hours train ride with great entertainment on the way. What a SPECTACULAR view we indulged in. It’s one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a MUST ... read more

On the road again!!! Ok, we made it across Texas State. As they say, “Everything is big in Texas”, even the State. We drove across desolate New Mexico, it seemed endless and we watched the gas gage closely!! Finally, civilization again! We made it without any car trouble… Tucson is hot and dry. The temperature was mid to high 90s and we LOVED it. Yes it’s hot, but early mornings are great, and late afternoon into the evening is awesome. The next day, we traveled 40 minutes southeast of Tucson to visit “Kartchner Caverns”. We had a tour of a living cave. What an awesome experience. This cavern was discovered in the 1970s by 2 guys, Gary and Randy, who loved to explore caves. What’s amazing is when you are outside looking at the mountain, it ... read more

Early Tuesday morning we made a group decision to travel to El Paso in 1 day instead of 2 days. There were beautiful mountains in the distance with desert all around it. It was a long day where there was not much and you don't want to run out of gas! Nature is invigorating and good for the mind. El Paso had a beautiful view of Mexico at night, it was a sea of lights.... read more

We left Beaumont for a new adventure and drove to San Antonio, Texas. Early the next day, we drove downtown to the RiverCenter Mall to park our car and tour the area. We visited the Alamo. The chapel of the Alamo Mission is known as the "Shrine of Texas Liberty". Late morning, we toured the Riverwalk by boat. That's quite the gem. The river is about 5 miles long lined with countless cafes, shops, restaurants and other businesses. We then visited the Hemisfair Park which was built to host the 1968 World's Fair and has the world famous San Antonio landmark "The Tower of the Americas". The 750-foot-tall Tower of the Americas provides guests the most spectacular view of the city from the Tower's revolving Chart House restaurant or from the observation deck. I would highly ... read more
