On Thursday we drove to Corinth and took a train into the sprawling metropolis that is Athens. First off, we got off the subway very near the base of the Acropolis. We went up the side of the Acropolis, looking at some neat old ruins, some columns really well preserved, and up to the top to see the Parthenon. From such a high up spot we could see that Athens is absolutely huge. It's set between mountains and water for the most part, and it's just... everywhere! We could also see from the Parthenon the Olympian temple to Zeus, which was also neat because of its columns. The Parthenon was surprisingly large... the columns were thick as anything, and it was beautiful, though covered in scaffolding. The way out of the Acropolis going down was terrible. ... read more

Evening to you all. I'll continue the story of Monday... Dad and the girls and I met 2 girls from Texas in Greece on a mission trip, which was really neat. It's always neat to hear other people from North America so far from home:) Tuesday we originally intended to head to Delphi, but our GPS was confused and told us it would take about 4.5 hours. Instead we headed south to Naphtaali to see some ruins. We saw a fortress built about a thousand years ago to guard the port in Naphtali, which was really neat as it was largely intact and we could climb around on it. We also went to a castle on a small island just offshore, also built around 1000 AD. Today we went into Corinth, and visited the ruins of ... read more

Howdy, readers. We're in Greece now, but I'll give you the whole story... I apologize for the pun. (written on Saturday) Originally, we had planned to drive south from Venice on Thursday and Friday, and catch a ferry Friday night to Saturday morning to Greece. However, my dad was browsing the internet and found a different, longer ferry route that left on Friday at 2 pm and got in on Saturday at 8-ish, and it left from Venice, which eliminated about 10 hours of driving. So we're on that ferry now, and we have had some lovely views of the Greece coastline. The water here is absolutely lovely, navy blue in the deep water and turquoise in the shallows. We've had only good weather on the ferry, which is fantastic because noone is terribly seasick :). ... read more

I wrote this 2 days ago, so excuse the tenses. Hello there. I haven't posted since Saturday, and it's Tuesday... my apologies. Anyway, as previously stated We went to a yodeling festival in Interlaken, Switzerland. The streets were lined with people dressed in traditional Swiss garb and carrying the big long horns that I don't know the names of. We got to hear a few folk singing groups and the players of those large horns. Saturday afternoon we drove a little ways out of Interlaken to a town called Grindelwald, which is seated at the base of the Eiger. The clouds hung low, so we couldn't see the full North face, but it was still pretty neat seeing all the chalets and meadows and waterfalls. Sunday we went on a long uphill hike to some prime ... read more

This afternoon we took a bus into Interlaken and went to the Yodelfest there. It was... amusing to see all of the traditional garb and the huge pipes, along with the many people bursting into song at whatever time they deemed fit. We planned to go on a picnic today, but the clouds are low and its raining so we'll try again tomorrow. Fare thee well.... read more

Hello, all. It has come to my attention that the pictures uploaded are not in the order they should be. I can rearrange them, but it's a bit difficult and time consuming. Hopefully I can get it done, but it may not happen. If you don't understand what a particular picture is of, leave a comment maybe? Anyway, I believe the last time I updated was Tuesday. At least, it was Tuesday here. Either way, a while ago. heh heh :) Wednesday was a more relaxing day for us. We traveled to just outside of Innsbruck in Austria to take a tour of the... interesting Swarovski Kristallwelten, which is a museum/art display/who knows what put on by, of course, the Swarovski crystal company. It was odd to say the least. Artists have strange minds. There were ... read more

Hello, all. We've had two days chock full of history and beauty. Yesterday we went first to Nuremburg, the city dubbed by Hitler to be "The most German of all German cities." We visited the castle there and had a lovely look around the city. We then went to the coliseum-like building where Hitler held rallies for his Nazi supporters. It was huge! Its name started with Reich and ended with a whole lot of letters and museum. We noticed it was getting a little worn down, which we appreciated. Best not to keep a place like that in its glory. We also took a tour through the museum, and were educated on WWII a little bit. Then it was on to Munich. We didn't do much there, just had pizza and looked at the unbelievable ... read more

We've had a lovely, packed two days in Germany. Yesterday morning we drove to Boppard and after eating and such, we caught a Rhine River cruise. Along our cruise we saw... 4ish castles. We had a river view of the compact, old towns. We got off for an hour and a half at another town along the way and we had the experience of touring the ruins of a castle from the 1200s! It was super awesome, as you can see from the pictures. We went to our campsite, from which we could see the back of the same castle. My dad had the fantastic idea of hiking uphill both ways to the castle, just to see it again. So we did. It was rough. But the views were unbelievable. Today we watched a Rev. Dykstra ... read more

Hello, all. Here's an update for you: Yesterday we wandered through the itty Dutch town of Barneveld, admiring the brick streets and small buildings. And bikes! Everywhere, bikes. Today we were driven to Germany (The fourth country I have ever been in...) To fetch our... small motorhome. We drove more; along the Autobahn. Flat fields morphed into lush green, treed hills. Large ones. We saw plenty of small villages and one castle's ruins. Germany so far has a very mystical feel. Our campground here is quite busy. It happens to be a long weekend in Germany, and the campgrounds here don't have campsites; or at least this one doesn't. It's a plot of land on a first come first serve basis. Heh heh... we barely managed to find a little postage stamp spot, but we're here. ... read more
