Bonjour, it's Alyssa. I have been the designated blogger for my family's trip to Europe this summer, because of my superior internet skills. Uhh... come travel with us as we explore the wonders of a new world! 😊

Afternoon, everyone. Thursday, August 11. Mom and Dad brought the motorhome back to Germany, with help from Ome Jan and Tante Ria. We the children slept in late and bummed around Ome Jan C.'s house. Oma and Tante Gerda came late in the morning and we went to the Barneveld market and bought a couple things. In the afternoon we also did very little, and all but Shauna and I went back to the market again. I don't remember doing anything else that day... Friday, August 12. Our last day in Europe! In the morning, we went to visit Wilma and Evert-Jan and their family, and say goodbye. We went also to the Capela (?), a brick tower in the forest near Lunteren, and got a good view of the countryside from the top. In the ... read more

Sorry for the long wait, again. We've bee doing a lot of visiting family and winding down a bit. i'll probably post photos of the last 4 or so weeks from home. Thursday, August 4 (Continued) After ikea, we went t the Panakoekenhuis for supper, it had a petting zoo and massive playground, and pancakes came in flavours like pizza and cheese. Friday, August 5. It rained in the morning, and I volunteered with Tante Nel at a restaurant in town, which I really enjoyed. At 4óclockish, we picked up Oma and went to Ome Jord and Tante Grada's house for supper. They had a huge vegetable garden and fruit trees in their backyard! After supper we headed to Johan and Anja's house (their son and daughter-in-law). They had a beautiful house and horse barns. Morning. Saturday, July 30. We went to Scherpenzeel to pick up our Oma at her sister's house. It was fantastic to see her again, and we had desserts and drinks in Tante Joke's (Yo-keh) beautiful garden. We headed to Sneek (Snake) in the afternoon and found a small, basic, internet-less campground. We brought Oma to Tante Harmke and Ome Wiebe's house, then returned to the campground. It was very cold so we went bowling. Mom won. Sunday, July 31. We listened to a sermon and headed into Sneek to Dad's cousin Dieuwke + Nico's. They are super nice people and have a lovely house. We eat and go for a ride through the canals and lakes around Sneek. We saw the house where my Pake was born and Dieuwke lived, and Dad did a bunch of ... read more

I did not realise just how long it's been since I posted- a whole week! Sorry, guys... we've done a lot of driving and stuff. Saturday, July 23. We headed north to Scotland. We took a coastal route along the Scottish waters, and stopped at Sweetheart Abbey, an old church from 1273. We got a look at tidal plains- a few km2 of sea bottom in one spot. We also stopped to see a lighthouse and walked on the rocky, shellful beach. We stopped at a restaurant for- scones! They were FANTASTIC! We were given buckets of jam and cream to drench them with, which mom happily did. Sunday, July 24. We took our time and headed to the lovely rocks on the beach- it's very sunny for once. We drove for 8 HOURS all the ... read more

Excuse the deceiving place. That's not actually where we are. It's a wild guess and is around 100 miles off I believe. Sorry, also, for the long wait. It's been a while since we had internet, and when we did I squandered my time... So here's the story. Tuesday, July 19. Our campground ordered us a taxi to a train station, and we took the train into London to the Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. We spent nearly 3 hours inside the Tower of London, looking at the different exhibits, along with various armour pieces and torture devices. Once that was done it was past lunchtime, so we got ourselves some fish and chips from a stand. It was absolutely fantastic. I hope the fish&chips trend catches on in N. America. We catch a ... read more

(By the way, I guessed on the location- we're somewhere near London, probably not in the middle of the city though.) Hi, guys! Hasn't been long this time. Sunday, July 17. We went to the Canadian WWII cemetary in Beny-sur-Mer. We were really pleased to see that it is well kept up, with gardens and plants around each gracestone. The youngest we saw was 18 and the oldest 44. This was another cold, wet day. Monday, July 18. We stopped quickly to see a WWI memorial on a hill near Calais. Very windy. Very, very windy. Then, we went and got the Chunnel (Which is extremely expensive... apparently, if we had booked in advance it would have been half price, though -.- . A lesson you can learn from us. We spent a long time getting ... read more

I shake you warmly by the hand. So, we are in the absolutely beautiful country of France, and I do emphasize beautiful. Sadly, pictures are not uploaded, but someday they will be. Hold on to hope. Wednesday, July 13. Rainy and cold. We drove 4 hours to a campground outside Paris with free internet. Thursday, July 14. Bastille Day (Independence Day) in France. We walked 5 minutes to the train station and went off to Paris. Our first stop was the Louvre, which was free that day. We waited in line for 10 minutes, went first to the Mona Lisa, and looked around for a while. We got to see sarcophaguses, sphinxes, and moat. We came out at 12:15 and sadly missed a military parade that happened just outside (we heard the planes). We headed for ... read more

Hi, guys. Sorry I haven't posted anything new for a while, not a whole lot of interesting stuff has happened :) We've done a lot of driving. On Friday, July 8, we caught a bus in the morning to Saint Tropez, a ritzy French version of Beverly Hills. There were a lot of beautiful, expensive yachts in the harbor. We took a stroll through the town, which was quaint, though not very impressive. We caught the bus back, and hung out at the lovely beach for the afternoon (my tan is improving...). On Saturday we headed out for a campground halfway to Barcelona- a nice 4 hour drive. We stayed on a nice sandy beach in a nice, beachy town. On Sunday we headed towards Barcelona- 3 hour drive. We camped across the road from a ... read more

Hi, there. Sunday afternoon we drove to a campground just outside of Rome. It was extremely buggy, and I counted 15 mosquito bites on my legs alone... Monday we headed into the touristy city that is Roma, Italia. We caught a shuttle>bus>train>subway to downtown Rome at the Colesseum. It was huge, and we could look down and see all of the underground passageways where animals and gladiators were stored. We got to learn plenty about the uses of the Coliseum and gladiators. After that, we walked through the old Roman forum, which contained a lot of really neat and diverse ruins. There was a small Nero museum, too. We went to see the Piazza Venezia where there was a massive building that seemed to be a war memorial, with many white statues everywhere. Words cannot do ... read more

Hello again, I have pictures for you from Athens and the ferry rides, along with Pompei, Vesuvius, and what we've done this morning. Our campground is in the crater of an old, but by no means dormant volcano. We walked out onto the sulfur smelling plains, looking at a huge boiling mud pool and steam vents. The ground was strangely warm. It was a super neat experience.... read more
