My accent is the 'weird' accent at work There are two South African, one Scottish, the rest -- are English, at least as far as I can differentiate; it's okay to group all other UK accents into English, right? I kid. I on the other hand, sound "American", or so they like to joke. The South African accent is SUPER growing on me though. It's beautiful. Video: South African Accent A Bank Holiday has nothing to do with Banks. It's just a day off I am off to Amsterdam this weekend; Saturday, Sunday and back on Monday night. I'm excited. I'm going with Rachelle and a bunch of other people on a group trip! Should be super fun. Look out for photos. ... read more

Reflection What makes England so much more exciting than Toronto? I mean Toronto has a lot of things to offer as well, but why is it that I've been to London for two weeks now, and I feel like I've done more in two weeks here than I ever would in a month in Toronto. It's the choices you make really; I would have to think twice about going to a pub on a random Wednesday night in Toronto. London, not even a second thought. I've taken a lot of things for granted in Toronto - it's sights, sounds, people, places - everything. Because I've lived there for 20 years, everything was always at my disposal, always there, I can go whenever. London, I have two years to do everything I want. So it's limited. But ... read more

Definitely hitting the ground running... It's been 9 days since I've moved to London - and I've already settled the essentials, friends, flat and funds. I am starting my new job on Monday (Thank God!!!). Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers as I made the transition over, they definitely helped alot. I can't help but feel like I'm channelling my mother on these things. I remembered when we moved back to Toronto from California, she had everything taken care of in a matter of days if not hours. =P One of the best things I could ever inherit from my mother (other than my cuteness, of course) is her ability to get the job done in no time flat. She has a knack for being organized and I definitely inherited the "ACTION AGAD" gene ... read more

So, where do I live? I can now confidently answer - London, England. I moved into a flat today - it's nearby Canary Wharf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canary_Wharf), with great views of the River Thames. How did I get here? Well, I live with my friend Carolyn, who I've known for 7 years. She moved here for graduate school and currently lives here for the time being. Her room mate moved out at the end of the month, and I took over. Timing was definitely on my side with this one. So far so good, the trek to England went smoothly, even with a weird stop over in Iceland. At least I can say I've been to Iceland (specifically Kevlavik Airport only). For the past two days, I've just been enjoying the days, met some great friends already, thru ... read more

One more week! One more week! For 20 years, all I've known, I'm leaving behind. My house, my friends, my family -- will be thousands of miles away - while I go make something of myself in London town. Don't get me wrong, I won't be TOTALLY alone in London. I have a couple of friends who live there right now, and c'mon, I love being thrown in a group where I know ZERO people. It's my favourite. I've started packing, got some British pounds (which was cheaper this year, may I add), and I'll be equipped with my Ipod touch (Thanks Kuya!) I'll be fine. I had my going away party last Friday, lots of people came by so wish me well, and good luck and all that. -=- But let's rewind -- how did ... read more

This is according to cheapflights.co.uk for a Sept 2009 flight. I am definitely going to quench my wanderlust during this move! =) -=- I am leaving Aug 5, 2009 - 9pm EST. I have my flat set up already, I have a meeting on the Monday with an agency. All that's left now, is to pack up my stuff and bid adieu to what's been my home for the last 21+ years -- (for now)! London, here I come.... read more

It's been almost a year since I left for England the first time and whaddayaknow? I'm leaving to go there again -- this time for longer than a month; hopefully two years. I've applied for my VISA, and now I'm just trying to decide when to leave Toronto - I'm thinking late July, early August. Hopefully I'll narrow down the dates this week and book that ticket. I've applied thru www.swap.ca - so the process thus far has gone smoothly. I know a few people already living in England, so I'm not THAT nervous because I know I won't be totally alone. Just some travel thoughts: “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” - St. Augustine “There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is ... read more

I'm home now. Kinda oxford-sick, this is an illness similar to being home-sick. =P I'm also have a cold, due to the back and forth trips to London and Oxford, and spending a day in wet socks in Paris. -=- Paris, France Sites we visited: Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, Eiffel Tower (of course), and the Arc de Triomphe. Photo Evidence: Album 1 Album 2 I walked around looking for my sister, surely she's seen it already. I left them when I got in the room. I pushed my way through the crowds to reach the f... read more

Hot, Cold, Hot, Rainy, Cold One thing I noticed in England, is that the "hot" water is on the right side, as opposed to the left side in North America. Just like the driving situation. Anyway - we're pretty much in the thick of things as far as the course goes - we had a test last monday, we have a response paper due on Monday, and then a term paper and the final exam on the last day of class .. =T Been out and about as well: Last night a group of us went to this pub called "The Eagle & Child" - apparently JRR Tolkien (author of Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and CS Lewis (author of the Chronicles of Narnia) were patrons there in the early-mid 20th century - pretty cool!
