The Guy - Robert Woods

Robert Woods Welcome to the world of a traveler. One filled with third person travelogues authored under the adopted pseudonym "The Guy" for the vicarious vagabonding reader.
It is my time for something new. For most, my graduating from college means that I'm supposed to fill some current void in this world and work a 9 to fiver.

Somehow that's just not going to work out for me the way society has planned.

I'm always up for a good time or something new.

I feel that once you stop learning you stop living, so I'll keep learning by traveling.

This summer you can follow "The Guy" as he wanders around Central America. Departing in the morning on July 10, 2006 the planned itinerary is scheduled for just over six weeks returning back to Orlando on August 24, 2006.

Most Recently I spent the summer of 2005 in Las Vegas. I had no money so I picked up a job as a bar back at Treasures.
I was backpacking in SE Asia during the summer of 2004 and Europe in 2002. Those were among the best experiences in my life.

Back to my home base This is just a quick update to allow those that began to worry as I approached my one week point without contact that I am doing fine. After one week in Cuba I returned back to Cancun four days earlier than expected. The updates and pictures related to that time will come in the near future. For now I am staying in Cancun with Marco at the house of a guy we met while in Havana. Tomorrow evening the three of us will head out to Playa Del Carmen for the weekend. Cuba was without a [View Full Entry]

Vedado, La Habana, Cuba, Caribbean Sea, Western Hemisphere, The World WOW!!! That is about the only way to start talking about La Habana. My flight from Cancun landed around 5:20 EST in Habana on Monday. The flight itself was quite an experience alone. I believe the plane was purchased in a garage sale from Slovakia. As the air condition kicked on the cabin filled with white fumes which seemed to worry no one on the plane. The flight itself was not so bad, but as we landed the entire cabin boomed with cheers of joy. We´re we not supposed to land, [View Full Entry]

Didn´t think I´d get to see you so soon Upon arrival in any new city certain things must be put into order: *Locate Housing *Settle into new room *Use bathroom *Learn layout of surroundings *Decide you are hungry *Try getting a taxi *Find a good place to eat *Sit down *Order *Eat For me, these are some of the little things that help settle me into any new area. As the evening started off things were great. The girls met me down at Javier´s and we made our way up Ave. de Los Presidentes to La Rampa to try to find [View Full Entry]

Tulum's Main Building
I did visit Tulum twice on this trip in case anyone was curious as to why, it was for the first and for the last time.
We Did Something, But Nothing Really We got a real jump on the day today, getting started just after 12:00 pm. Fully recoverd from the night before we headed out for some desayuno por Marco y almuerzo por mi. He grabbed some huevos y jamon mixture and I treated myself to a dinner sized portion of burritos con pollo y queso, arroz, y frijoles. I'm guessing our meal took around 45 minutes. I don't know about time very often due to the fact that I'm not carrying a watch or travel clock with me. After eating we searched out a place [View Full Entry]

Just a quick update Currently, I'm in Tulum, Mexico. Tulum is located about 2 1/2 hours south of Cancun by bus and is the home of the Mayan ruins of the city of Tulum. Cancun Stories Just to wrap up a few more stories about Cancun. My last comment about Cancun had me learning a new card game with a group of 4 at my hostel. After the game continued on until about 12:00 AM and slowly people started to fade into their dorm rooms to head off to bed I made my way to the Zona Hotelera with Marco. Marco [View Full Entry]

Wandering around took me to this peaceful little spot on the northen coast of Isla Mujeres
This road leads no place I've ever been Off to what I thought was a late start on my second day, I went downstairs in the hostel to pay for another night of accomodation only to find out that was only 10:30. I headed around the corner from the hostel to grab a bite to eat. Coffee, Oranje juice, toast, beans, Mexican eggs, tortillas, and a coke for around 45 pesos. From there I headed across Av Tulum to catch a collectivo. Collectivos are minivans that will pic up just about anyone going anywhere. The 15 minute drive to the port [View Full Entry]

Making home in Cancun Arrived without any problems into Cancun, but was treated to an extra half hour on the plane while parked waiting for a bus to deliever us like cargo into the immigration office. Took a bus from the airport to Centro Cancun and found Mexico hostels about twenty minutes after leaving the bus terminal. For the financially concerned my bed here is running me 100 pesos per night. The published exchange rate for bank cards from ATMs right now is hovering around 11.10 Pesos to the US$. So basically its about $10 US which includes towel, sheets, and [View Full Entry]

Packing is the hardest part So I have 3 days to get my act together for this summer's backpacking adventure. I think i have most of the supplies I'll need, and in reality, anything I don't have already I'll be able to purchase when I get to Cancun. Being that this is my first entry I have a lot to cover, so let me get started. I think the best place to start with will be my planned itinerary. My departure from Orlando International Airport takes place the morning of July 10, 2006, after a short lay over in Ft. Lauderdale, [View Full Entry]
