Well! It's been a while since my last post, and that's because I have had a simply fabulous week, and have been too busy soaking in the local Scottish culture (. . . and being a general lazy bum) to update my travel blog ;-) working backwards, then -- last Thursday was one of the coolest evenings I've ever spent. I went to the first of weekly Philosophy Society lectures. This one was given by a professor from the English department, entitled (wait for it): The Stupidity of Philosophy, the Violence of Literature, and the Relevance of Cultural Studies. Her point was something along the lines of philosophy being "stupid" because it is concerned with abstract, obscure, unpractical matters, and literature being violent because it reflects the violent political ideologies of the writers . . .
