Europe » United Kingdom » England » Leicestershire August 5th 2009

It's football day. We start the day with Absinth and sprite, Bowz helped polish off the bottle of Bundy so you can imagine the state. Walking to Emeriates Stadium it's crazy - people everywhere, singing, drinking, red shirts and some Rangers Blue. Bowz is like a kid at Christmas, he's so excited he's almost bursting everytime he looks at me smiling. Seats are great - up high but behind the goals and the stadium design is amazing, we can see everything and feel as if we're about 50m closer to the ground than we are. Two games of football down, with the home team winning in the dying minutes the crowd was ecstatic. Hit a club in Camden that night - well a club that plays music you can sing along to - but we had ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England August 4th 2009

We'd finally made it to London! Perfect timing of 6:30pm,m just in time for Johnny's bday party. However 2 hours through customs etc and discovering a broken bottel of Bundy meant we'd be a little late. Note UK doesn't accept cheese through customs - Kraft Plastic Sticks still counts as cheese. Sorry Mitch & Danielle not having much luck with your presents. It's always so awesome to see smiling faces awaiting your arrival. Mitch's beard is out of control, just wait until you see the photos. We purchased our oyster cards and off we went. Bowz was the only person in our group to never have travelled the tube before and was instantly a convert. The ease of use, the accessibility, the universally recognised logo, man CityRail in Sydney has a long way to go to ... read more

Asia » Thailand July 31st 2009

We're half way there. very excited that people are at work today, and we're not. Was great to get a plane for this trip that had in flight entertainment.... and Bowz enjoyed the constant supply of booze that asian flighties are famous for never saying no to. Here's our first trip photo - breakfast of champions. ... read more

North America » United States » Missouri » St Louis September 1st 2008

We've come to our final destination. The USofA for Carly & Paul's wedding. Chi Town Arriving in Chicago, it was nice to be met by someone at the airport, and someone who could talk to us and we could understand (my dad). So good to see the family again, and also some of Phuong's family too. My little nephew (who's almost one) has learnt to do kisses : D - well he leans in, and you get a bit of slobber, but it's the most adorable thing in the world. Chicago feels like my 2nd (or 3rd maybe) home but it was Tim's first trip so we didn't hang home long before heading out to see some sights. I was a little skeptical about coming back to the US, one of the world's "super-powers" is not ... read more

South America August 26th 2008

Just a short one because the trip to the US was slightly eventful (as they always are). We flew from Sao Paulo to Bogota (capital of Columbia) where we had a 6 hour stopover. Jumped on the internet to find out that our Aerolineas flight home from Buenos Aires on the 4th of September has been moved forward 22 hours!!!! We won't even have left Miami for Sao Paulo, let alone be in Buenos Aires. How the f**k are people supposed to fly with this airline? I can't believe it. Their next flight is not until the 6th, which means I would miss my cousins bucks day. It looks like the solution is to get a refund on that flight (which takes 2-3 months), find another flight with another airline, wear the additional cost now and ... read more

South America » Brazil » São Paulo » São Paulo August 25th 2008

The sun came out for us in Sao Paulo, but we were only here for a night in transit. The only thing to say about this city is it is MASSIVE!!!!! For as far as the eye can se on the plane, the city pushes on, full of clusters of large buildings. With 11 million people, it's one of the biggest cities in the world. Went straight to the pool at the hotel to try and get a bit of colour in to our pasty bodies before we headed out to check out the shops. Unfortunately we heard and the saw the afters of a guy who got hit by a car. Unsure whether it was the fault of a lunatic driver or a lunatic pedestrian, could have been either. We went to Bar Favela (funny ... read more

South America » Brazil » Santa Catarina » Florianópolis August 22nd 2008

What is this rain??? It should not be like this??? We flew in about 7pm and it was raining!!!!! We took a taxi to our hotel/compound to find our room. We were staying at an "eco-lodge" which is environmentally self sufficient. There are down sides to this however- *Toilet paper cannot go in the toilet. It goes in the bin next to the toilet and is only emptied every 2 days. *No heating or airconditioning *The water in the shower is heated by an electric motor on the showerhead so that it's not wasting water heating all the time. This means if you want a shower with loads of pressure, it can't heat the water fast enough, so it is cold. You have to have a hot shower that dribbles. Looking out the back verandah, I ... read more

South America » Brazil » Rio de Janeiro » Rio de Janeiro » Copacabana August 21st 2008

Howdy readers! It's been a while since our last update, so we should probably let you know what has happened since our last post. We flew in to Rio on the night of the 19th. We were staying on Copacabana beach because all the accommodation on Ipanema was full. Found some food in the way of crepes at this little place called Yonza. Dirt cheap food and drink, a must for anyone staying around this area. With large manga style cartoons on the walls, this place was pretty cool.( Bowz was keen for a night out, but as we were planning on flying next morning, i convinced him to head home early, so we finished about 1am- Danyane ) Got up the next morning for our hang gliding adventure! After a few hiccups, we made it ... read more

It's nice to finally have some warm weather! Its a balmy 22 (and more) degrees here 24 hours a day which is awesome. We arrived at the airport and asked for a transfer to the hotel. I scoffed when they told me it was 210 pesos ($80AUS) but the assured me it was 55km. Anyway, I didn't realise our hotel was actually in Brazil!!! So we had to cross the border from Argentina to Brazil. It's a really strange feeling just crossing over a bridge and knowing you're in another country (actually you can 3 at the same time, Argentina Brazil & Paraguy), not something we get in Australia. This hotel, Das Cataratas, on the brazilian side was our treat for the trip. It's the only hotel on the falls on the brazilian side and is ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires August 17th 2008

Well we arrived back in BA and into our new bed and breakfast for two nights. Not too much to report except that we did a bit of shopping and I managed to pick up an Yves Saint Lauren tie for $50AUS. If we didn't have 3 weeks of holidays left, I would have bought a couple of suits as there about a quarter of the price! We went on a Gaucho tour on Saturday which was out to a ranch to basically ride horses and watch a cowboy show. The horses only played follow the leader, and hardly responded to commands, and the show was crap. Basically we have decided self tours are far far better! And you don't get tortured by the spanish guide trying to speak english and still point out every icon ... read more
