So I made entirely the wrong choice in friends here in Italy. I also just realised I seem to start every single blog with the word 'so'. Anywho, I have somehow managed to be friends with entirely beautiful people, including a stunning German girl and a beautiful Swedish boy who could sell me underwear anyday. I realised this the other day, whilst sat on the giant rock that passed for a beach in the absence of sand here (it was much more beautiful than it sounds, and the sea was lovely, so warm and clear and calm). I am the proverbial average looking duckling, or at least I would be if such a proverb existed. I shan't call myself ugly, because clearly I am not. I also realised the other day that I packed entirely inappropriately ... read more

Well hello my loyal band of followers! I am once again back in the sunny land of Italia. Dont you just hate me? So yes, I arrived on Sunday, my appartment is a lot nicer than I was expecting it to be, I'm sharing it with a lovely german girl called Anne, and a very nice spanish couple called Dani and (insert name of girlfriend which i've forgotten here). So fun house times, yay. Unfortunately all the other Italian families in the building are rediculously loud at all hours, but it does give me a good excuse for a siesta... Not that I need one (an excuse that is, I always need a siesta). Our house is about a 30 minute walk away from the school I'm studying at, but it's a very pretty walk so ... read more

So either I am the most clumsy person on earth or death is stalking me... Or something. Yesterday I managed to stand up whilst crouched under an open window and gave myself a mild concussion and a very attractive lump. On Sunday I fell asleep on the lilo in the pool and woke up with a bright red cleavage and tummy, which is very very sore now (and also goes to prove that your skin really does build up sun resistance as my face and arms were in the sun just as much as my body, but because they're used to the sun they're now brown as apposed to my never exposed midrif and boobs, which are now red). And furthermore, I have either a cold or my first experience of hayfever. Most likely a cold. ... read more

Soooo I'm thinking it may have been not the wisest idea to go away again so very soon after being away for so very long. Whilst here is amazing, I kinda just wanna be back home... Lame I know, but I can't help it, I had a tantalising brief moment of home and then went again... I have been rather enjoying the Italian male idea of fashion. The all dress in a way that, were we in England, they would be rampant homosexuals. There are guys here who even shave their legs. All perfectly straight guys, I might add, the strict catholocism and small village setting make it somewhat of a no-no to be gay. Yet for some reason, they all dress like it. Why? Pass. Ideas on a postcard. I feel rather like Cindarella here. ... read more

So here I am, jetting off to yet another sunny country. Don't you just hate me? It's a hard life being a language student, but someone's got to do it! I'm staying with a family in the south of Italy. In return for free accomodation and meals I help them around the house and garden for 5 hours a day. Not bad eh? The family are lovely, really friendly and great sense of humour. The food is divine, well it's Italy, what do you expect? The house is amazing, the kind of home people dream of moving abroad to. It's massive and has an outdoor swimming pool and trampoline. The weather is fantastic, in the 30s. I've only been here two days and already my body's back to Paraguayan hot and cold levels, as it was ... read more

I feel I should do one last blog, to round the year off, and tell you all what I did during my last month in Asuncion. I didn't have internet access there, which is good because it gives me a valid excuse, nay reason for why I haven't blogged, as opposed to my normal laziness. As most of you know I am now back home, and I enjoyed seeing lots of you on Saturday at the BBQ, at which I am sure I consumed enough crisps and cake to more than make up for my year of weightloss. Good times. Although Ralph pointed out to me today that the reason I'm currently so permanently ravenously hungry is that my body is thinking "OOooh plenty! Quick, let's stockpile in case we have to go back to privation" ... read more

So, you'll never guess what I did on my first day in Asuncion. That's right, I went to a shooting range and learned how to shoot 3 different guns, including the type that the army and FBI use! I got to keep the piece of paper with the bullet holes in it, and I did surprisingly good, 2 bulls eyes and all the rest within the next 2 rings. I unfortunately put my thimb somewhere you're not supposed to put it while shooting guns, and so the gun bit me and it hurts. But it's just a cut, it's not like I'm missing a thumb now or anything. It was terrifying, shooting those guna, kinda fun, but mostly terrifying. It really is nothing like it seems on the TV. For one thing it's so much louder ... read more

I have almost come to the end of my last week here in Concepcion. After all my bitching and moaning and whining and winging, turns out I'm actually rather fond of the place, and even more so of the people. Having said that, the thought of only having a month left untill I will be home envokes a feeling not unlike a five year old waiting for christmas morning. All the kids clubs this week were goodbye meetings instead of a normal teaching. We played games, sang songs, ate cake, took photos and gave me presents. In the teachers meeting on tuesday every ten minutes I was told to go check on the brownies in the oven (the chocolate kind, not the small child kind) untill eventually I just yelled "I know when I'm not wanted" ... read more

So as ever, I have been excedingly rubbish at updating this blog. Ooops. I would like to say it'd because I've been so busy, but well, that would be a big lie. I'm just forgetful and lazy. There are now only 10 days left in Concepcion, i'm getting rather excited. It's odd, I'm sad in a way, as I do love the people here and I will of course miss them, especially whilst I'm in Asuncion as I'll feel I should be back here with them. But at the same time excitement wins, because that means there are only 10 days and one month left untill I shall be back home, which is very very exciting. So in the past, er, while since I last blogged what has happened? I got to be an interpreter for ... read more

So I'm a red head again. One of the ladies in the church here is training to be a hairdresser and wanted someone to practice on, so I let her dye my hair. It may however have been slightly too ambitious of her to attempt that so soon in her studies, as I now have a lovely bright red forehead to match my lovely bright red hair. Oh well. It'll come off with some scrubbing, and she did dye my hair pretty well to be fair. I'm going to buy her a hairdryer before I leave, as she can't afford all the things she needs for the course so that'll help her a lot. So I've been back in Concepcion a week. The time has well and truly flown by. I haven't really done much different ... read more
