My mum and I have been joking about making a website and phone app where people fill in a questionnaire about their toilet experience and then get a score to go on the toilet leaderboard for the most extreme toilet experience in the world! What do you reckon, will it catch on?
I agree, I did once debate about doing a book about toilets I've used when travelling but didn't travel enough to really do that.
Glad to hear you're still having traditional travelling experiences wouldn't want you to miss out. :D
It's a universal rule of travelling to talk about toilets and all associated trauma - I don't know why, but within a week of travelling with people abroad, it suddenly becomes an acceptable conversation topic. I think it's probably the mutually longing for a NORMAL TOILET.
Mongolia sounds cool .. .. also looked amazing on the Human Planet episode with the hunters that trained an eagle to hunt for them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y3Dl0BGFfw Must go some day...
Tokyo! Hey soph! I squealed with excitement when I read this blog, as you seem to have actually rewritten my own trip to tokyo!! we also went to Shibuya and took touristy pics on the crossing, and went to Akibahara where we (unlike you) managed to avoid the maid cafes! I can't believe you went in one of those places!! I totally remember all the vending machines too, i swear every street has one, and they dont just sell drinks, they sell random stuff too! brilliant. anyway. I just thought I'd drop you a 'hi'. totally cool that you're there!! xxxx
Malcolm the Meerkat? I came on here, expecting to find photos of Malcolm posing in various places and only find pictures of you, how disappointing!! Hope your visa thing goes well (I would have no idea!).
Dave
=D Hi lovely,
You look like you're having an awesome time. I got your postcard yesterday!! It's stuck up on my wall. I've never had mail from China before. I've been telling my kids all about your adventures in Tiannamen Square cos they're doing a bit of Chinese history. Keep enjoying yourself and eating crazy food!
Stay safe,
lots of love. xxx
Russian visa Yeah, Alex and Martyn had exactly they same problem and beat a retreat back to France while they let the company in London take care of it.
Oh yeah! That was it! :D Can't believe I forgot! hehe
No, this is actually a different sitcom, based on our experiences of living in shared houses at uni. I don't think I'll ever write the ice cream van sitcom because it would be a bit culturally insensitive of me to do so, since I imagined the characters to be indian.
Malcolm the Meerkat! He's called Malcolm the meerkat and I am glad he has finally appeared in your blog, I'm sure he was feeling left out!! Is the sitcom you are writing the one featuring the ice cream vans at the end of your road?!
Haha yeah, he's a meerkat I got at the zoo before I left, the idea being to have photos of him everywhere I went. Of course I've only actually remembered to take him to the Lama temple so far, so we'll see how that goes! Dave named him something but I've forgotten what it was, so I'm going with Monty the Meerkat. :D
Love the photo of the pea ice cream, I will leave you to be my official taster of such things and will allow you to decide so I'll not have any of that in the future then. :D
Is the stuffed racoon/ panda/ bear type thing on his travels too? Do we get to see photos of where he's got to? What's his name?
Keep eating breakfast. :D
Helloooo missus! I am loving Andrea in your place - she misses you!!! IMISS YOU!!! Loving your blog - you are getting busy very fast, look forward to more stories - take care of your elves - love louisa and Andrea
Anything but... Soph, you are anything but boring, quiet, and straightlaced, and we love you for it! You're way more fun as you are, and quite frankly, you'd be pretty scary stoned! Thanks for being you :D
God bless,
Lucy

If you love a red head.... ...set her free. If she come back and sets up house on your front lawn and your new girlfriend goes missing you belong to her now. Get used to it!
Very Nice Sophie!
When I started this thing I was a 20 year old Spanish and Italian student from the UK, spending 9 months in Paraguay with various adventures planned to the surrounding countries! I then went to Italy for a bit to try and remember how to speak Italian before my final year of uni.
Now, I am a 24 year old "adult" (allegedly) who will be spending 4 months doing the whole 'trans-siberia' thing getting the train home from China. Yay!... full info
