I'm alive. My parents were a bit worried as I didn't appear online for over a week after leaving them and Argentina. Apparantly Dad was ready to call Interpol. Though I do hope my mother was joking about that. The reason I was missing in action was that on arriving in Paraguay I decided to stay in Asuncion for a week with my surrogate mother and sister, Elaine and Rach, and they don't have internet in their house. So I had a lovely time with them, meeting all their friends and seeing what they do during the week. I even got up at 6am to go into school with them one day! Only one day mind you. Unfortunately I got completely caught out for being there. One evening I went to Alpha with the girls and ... read more

South America » Uruguay » East » Punta del Este April 2nd 2008

Greetings faithful readers! I am full of cocktails paid for by Daddy and therefore thought it a fabulous idea to blog! We are currently in Punta del Este in Uruguay, it is a fairly standard beach town, we´re here in Autumn so the town is practically dead, I keep expecting to see zombies there are so few people! However the hotel we are staying at is far from standard, it´s gorgeous. It has a spa center and one of those pools where the water goes right up to the edge. It´s right on the beach and is gorgeous. Shame the wind is blowing so hard it´s freezing. Not that I´m complaining really as it makes a lovely change to be able to wear a jumper and not melt into a little puddle. Today we just wandered ... read more

I´m having a bloody fantistic holiday with my parents. You´ll never guess what I did yesterday, I went to the world´s only religious theme park. It was the tackiest cheesiest thing I´ve ever seen in my life, not even the Americans could do it! There was a 20 meter fibre-glass Jesus that rose out of the ground every hour. I videoed it and will put the video (and photos) on facebook when I get back to Paraguay. Gotta love those crazy Argentinians. They also had anamatronic shows of the Nativity, Creation and the last supper. It was, well, certainly a unique experience. So to balance it out afterwards we went to the Museum of Fine Art. Of course art can be a bit weird at times too, so it wasn´t actually a step up really. We ... read more

Anyone who's reading this please pray for little Romina. She's just had her operation and the doctors are really worried about her, they say she's got a low temperatre and they said "If she turns blue, call us." So please please pray for her, that she would recover from her operation and that the Lord will keep her safe. Thanks.... read more

So I am accidentaly a mother. Walking along the street yesterday I saw the teeniest tiniest little kitten ever making the most noise I've ever heard a cat make EVER. She was clearly abandoned by either her mum or her owner and me being a massive sap couldn't just leave her there maybe to die so I brought her home. She went to the vets today for a flea bath and a worming tablet. She screamed the place down. But then she just generally is a screamer, she's either asleep or screaming, she has no other setting. She is adorable though. I'll only have her for 10 days because I'm going to Argentina for a holiday with Mum and Dad and my friend Zunni is going to look after her, I think it would be too ... read more

Yes yes, I know, Sophie is very bad at blogging. I just never think what I'm doing is interesting enough for you guys to want to read about! I just smashed a glass and cut myself trying to clean it up. Because I'm that smart. From now on I'm only using plastic cups. A few mondays ago I went fishing with Zuny and her husband Victor. It was great fun. We went across the river in a little canoe style boat, (how on earth do you spell canoe?), and went to Victor's grandparent's house because their land backs onto the river but in a sheltered way that I have no idea how to explain which means that there were no currents because they said it would be too difficult for me on my first time with ... read more

So on Thursday last week I went up to Asuncion, it was my first time going alone so I was a little nervous but it was all fine. I went to stay with Elaine as usual, but now she has a new housemate, a girl called Rachel who's just arrived to teach English in the school for a year. She's really lovely, we got on really well she's so funny, which coincidently is the phrase she uses most often! "It was so funny" is the thing I heard her say most (you have to imagine it said in a thick Cumbrian accent... I feel sorry for the kids she's going to teach! hehe) So yeah just met her and did some washing and stuff on friday untill my friend Maryke arrived. I met her at the ... read more

So I had a very enjoyable week last week, I dressed up as clown every day for all our kids clubs. It was great fun, I really do love pratting around. As such, I'm considering eschewing a real career in favour of spending my life working at Disneyland dressing up as Disney characters. I think it's a solid life plan. Alas my father doesn't agree. Thankfully there are is no photographic evidence of my week as a clown, so my dignity remains intact. Claire wanted to take photos, but she is forgetful and I neglected to remind her. I wore a multicoloured curly clown wig, facepaint, bright pink clothes and a massive pair of pink glases that were the size of my head. At the first kids club where we were doing this they asked us ... read more

Which unlike the BBC TV series didn't involve humorous misunderstandings with the inlaws. No. My worst week involved being the illest I have ever been in my entire life, ever. Now the following account of my illness and subsequent treatment may be considered an overshare by those of you who have a sense of shame, I on the other hand am an Atkinson, and a sense of shame does not serve one well in this family. So! Onwards and upwards. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin. I gave my mummy a list of foodstuffs for Holli to bring out to Brazil to give me one, and one of the items was Fajita spices. On Friday I made myself dinner using said, although I was a little overzealous in my application and ended up with ... read more
