From New Jersey we caught a train to the US capital of Washington DC. We spent three days here, walking what felt like 20 kms each day, seeing all of the sights as well as going through a number of the art galleries and museums (all of which were free which was a bonus). The city itself has many attractions and momuments, and we spent the first day and a half looking at these. They included the White House, Capitol Hill, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Monument, as well as the WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War memorials. The Arlington National Cemetry was also an interesting place, with the most visited site undoubtedly being the grave of JFK.
