Ciao, We took an early morning train out of Paris to Venice. We were forced to travel 1st class because 2nd class was sold out. We decided to plan ahead a little and had actual train and hotel reservations. The ride was beautiful. We had 15min to change trains in Milan. This was concerning to me from the very beginning. Well our train was late by about 12minutes. We ran from track 1 to track 8 in the very big and busy Milan station and watched our train for Venice depart just as we reached it. So much for trying to pre-plan. We were able to catch a train about an hour later however we did not have reserved seats and ended up standing in the aisle for 2hrs of the 3hr trip! We went from ... read more
We arrived in Paris early on the 21st. We had no reservations, wanting to be spontaneous. We got a tip from a gal on the plane for a nice, inexpensive hotel that still had rooms available and was close to the Arc de Triomphe. Great, we would head that way. Traveling just with backpacks we left the airport via train to the metro. We came out from underground into Paris!! We were exhausted and it was raining. Cold, wet and tired we navigated the streets of Paris quite poorly!! Lots of wrong turns. We eventually reached the hotel. No rooms. "No rooms in Paris" we were told. We sat down in the lobby to regroup. We were dripping wet. The staff wanting to get rid of us kindly sent us to the tourist office. We were ... read more
As many of you know we are back in Flagstaff. My mother underwent open heart surgery and we have been here recovering her. She is doing fantastic and we hope to fly to Europe on Oct 20th. We had an amazing 2 months in the SanJaun, Gulf and Vancouver Islands. We sailed, sometimes motored, to over 17 different locations. For the most part the weather was good and things went smoothly. Just an occasional "near miss" of a potential disaster. The trickiest, most stressful part for me is docking the boat. It maneuvers like a drunken pig, (and it wasn't my husband). As we attempt to pull into a spot Mark will be at the helm while I stand on the bow with jelly legs and sweaty hands. I am to leap to the dock and ... read more
Here we are again, quite delinquent on any recent site additions. What can we say? We have been busy traveling on the 'Fahrt'. There has been some internet access issues but mostly our time has been taken up with sailing, running and hiking, eating ice cream, and watching seals, orcas, and lots of birds. Madison did manage to catch the only fish so far (it was ugly too). We left Anacortes on july 24th on the Seefahrt, this was our maiden voyage in winds 15-20 knots. The boat likes these wind speeds. We started off in the San Juan Islands, part of Washington state and bordering Canada. We made stops at several islands and locations, such as Cyprus, Obstruction State Park, Olga, Rosario, Spencer Spit, Shaw, Friday Harbor, Jones, Stuart, and Sucia. We stayed several days ... read more
We are here in Anacortes, Washington sitting in the "Seefahrt". The Seefahrt is our newly purchased Nor'Sea 27, a sailboat. We are not sure of the names origin and were originally going to change it but the name has really grown on us. We picked the boat up in Santa Cruz and hauled her up here to Anacortes. We stopped to see lots of friends and family along the way. When I first saw "The Fahrt" out of the water I thought, "There is NO WAY we are hauling that ourselves. NO WAY!!!" It seemed massive. Our F250 crew cab diesel truck looked like a tonka toy next to it. But, we did it. Or I should say Mark did it. He was just like a regular trucker pulling his load! Then we had the ... read more
