As the bus wound its way around the mountains on its journey to Pai, we were both trying to hold off the feeling of wanting to throw up. When we did finally arrive in Pai, we quickly found somewhere to stay that was really cheap, really clean and really friendly. Perfecto! The people that we saw in Pai all seemed really cool and there was a relaxed, hippy feel about the place. We decided to enroll in a cooking class called, “Let's Wok, with Tee”, and it was loads of fun. He was a cool guy and played tunes as he [View Full Entry]

The following day we all took a night train to Chiang Mai. The train was quite easy to find, and the information really easy to follow. The people in the station we all really friendly, and it seemed like they all wanted to help us, although a lot of people were wearing swine flu masks! The train itself was a lot more rickety than the trains had been in India, but all of the Thai people in our carriage who we spoke to were really happy that we were going to Chiang Mai! When we arrived there in the morning, our [View Full Entry]

The trip back to Bangkok included a ferry journey and a six hour coach. When we arrived we found a room in a guest house and met up with our friends from Manchester, George and Rachel. With them we did a bit of sightseeing and saw the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha, which had quite a steep entrance fee, but were so photogenic and breathtakingly beautiful that we didn't mind at all! We also saw the Reclining Buddha, which was huge! In the afternoon we took a trip on a long tail boat down the Klong Om, which took us past [View Full Entry]

On the night before we left to go to Ko Chang, we could hear a storm outside that was quite literally rocking our beach hut. This lasted all night, and we could still hear the wind and sea lashing against one another the following morning. This made me slightly uneasy about getting two boats! Once on the sea, it was really choppy, but we weren't shipwrecked and made it there, which was a relief! As soon as we arrived, (after getting on the back of a truck, then a boat, then a coach, then a ferry and then another truck) me [View Full Entry]

We took a bus South of Bangkok to catch a boat to the Island of Ko Samet. We found a wooden hut next to the beach where we could see the sea. On the first evening we went for some food at a place called Jeps on the beach under some trees which was amazing! I've never eaten something so hot that my eyes as well as my nose were streaming, but it tasted so amazing that I kept going until it was all gone! I think I was also dribbling a bit. After going to a bar and playing some [View Full Entry]

Welcome to Thailand! In Bombay Airport we had a bit of a nightmare, but we handled it really well as we had both finally submitted to India and let her win and just went with things! The flight was extremely bumpy and the seatbelt signs were on for almost all of the journey, but we did finally make to to Bangkok in one piece! After a little mooch around, our first impressions of Bangkok were that it was absolutely massive! And so very clean and modern! The differences between Bangkok and India were immense, even though both places were still so [View Full Entry]

We managed to get Rob's camera sorted so we're back to having pictures!!! Bombay, or Mumbai as you might say gave us both mixed feelings. The flight there was a bit odd to say the least as we were flying on the first day of the new airport opening in Jaipur (not that we knew it at the time). Our driver dropped us off with a bit of an emotional fairwell, and once he had left we were informed by staff that we were at the wrong airport, and that for domestic flights we had to go to the new airport [View Full Entry]

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but Rob's camera has started to make some strange noises when he turns it on and off! This will hopefully get sorted as soon as we get to Mumbai!!! Our trip to Jaipur seemed to take forever because we were both feeling a bit sick and bilious as you might say. The roads were really bumpy as well which wasn't what we needed as the sun was beating down on us in the already toasty hot car. We did see some wild snakes on the way though. Our first impressions of Jaipur were of how [View Full Entry]

On the road to Pushkar, Robbie and I were smiling all the way. Children ran out of their houses to smile at us and it put us both in a well mint mood. We also saw thousands of Muslim pilgrims walking along the road towards Ajmer, which is the city on the other side of the mountains to Pushkar, in the heat of the midday sun. Our driver explained to us that some people walk two hundred kilometres to get there, and this made us realise how devoted the people here are to religion. Once we arrived in Pushkar, we were [View Full Entry]

Our road trip to Jodhpur was approximately 190 km. It took us all morning. On the road our driver put on some old Indian dance music full blast. This crackling out of his tape player was the perfect soundtrack to a backdrop of stony mountains and brightly coloured turbans everywhere. The people we passed were all smiling and waving at us as well. We saw two lorries after a head on collision which looked pretty serious, as well as a few other battered cars at the side of the road. Our driver took us off the beaten track as well to [View Full Entry]
