"Hot, rugged, dry, flies, rough, red, deserted, breathtaking, and stunning" are just a few words to describe my trip to the outback. Beware of the Dingos, don't feed the dingos, walk in groups, summertime is when dingos are "boisterous and playful," Dingos are the wild dogs on Fraser Island. Now, I think seeing Dingos on Fraser Island is like seeing Aliens in Roswell, New Mexico because with all the hype, warnings, and signs about these animals, I didn't see one on my whole trip to Fraser Island. What a life...I'm sitting here listening to the "Commitments Soundtrack" out in the middle of the ocean with the sun about to set and surrounded by beautiful islands with pure white sand stretching out to the waters. Everyone knows Cairns because it is home of the Great Barrier Reef but for me it was home for 2 and 1/2 months. I have been living and working in Cairns for the past several months and now it is time to leave traveling the rest of Australia. "Where the rainforest meets the beach" is the famous description of Cape Tribulation. Brie and I managed to get 2 days off of work and hired car with our English friend, Emma, to see the Daintree Rainforest and beaches north of Cairns. It was fascinating driving along the east coast of Australia having scenery change fromm the beaches to farmland to mountains. Our first stop was Mossomons Gorge, which is the start of the Daintree Rainforest, and a natural beauty with rapids flowing through perfectly placed rocks. Having one year of clothes and sulpplies into 1 backpack, reading the t-n-t magazine everyday, eating 23 cent noodles, drinking the cheapest box wine, cramming into a hostel with 10 other people in 1 room, taking up others' slang, and best of all doing things you would never have done before. Not knowing where you are or how to get somewhere or what street leads to where, a.k.a-you're lost!! I guess being lost in Sydney isn't such a bad thing considering I ended up on the steps of the famous Sydney Opera House.
