After our fine Land Cruiser journey and our first city in Bolivia (Uyuni) we moved on to Potosi. Potosi is a mining town and certain companies offer tours of the active mines so we got to see it all first hand. Before we decided to do the tour we read that it was sketchy, dangerous, lame, and overall not a very cool experience. But naturally we do not listen to other people and I am so glad we didn´t because that is not what we experienced at all. It was a phenomenal experience that I am so glad I did, but then again I do not think I would do it again. Self preservation is high on my list! The tour endangered the lives of several people including my own. The most exciting part of ... read more

So much has happened since I last wrote and luckily it has been for a good reason. We have had too much fun and have moved so fast. After our fun time in Valpariso, Chile we headed north to San Pedro, Chile. San Pedro is a town that exists purely for tourism and has a lot of fun activities to do because of it. We chose mountain biking, geyser hiking, and an epic jeep tour into Bolivia. The mountain biking journey was an exhausting and beautiful journey. San Pedro is roughly located around 7900 ft (2400 m) and has some very nice hills, valleys, and canyons. We spent the last few weeks at sea level so our altitude ability is pretty insufficient making the road more difficult than it should have been. We biked through Valle ... read more

An early morning walk to find a hotel in Vicuna leaves my jaw frantically seizing and my teeth chattering due to what I call arctic temperatures. On the prowl for lodging we pick a kind of upscale hotel for lack of a better option and it did not even have hot water. The one joy of my future, a hot shower, was stripped from me. After the shower disappointment I had one mission, HEAT! I gathered every heating device I could find: radiator, strange wall heating like things, and blankets. A few moments of attempting to get warm was futile so I decided to take it like a man (or woman, not trying to be sexist so please just take it as a figure of speech) and go book our tour for the astronomical observatory. ... read more

How big is Chile? Before this trip I had an idea that it was skinny and long with no real sense of size other than it was not too big. In actuality it is huge! I ended my last post saying that there were 2 volcanoes just outside my hostel and around the corner. That is not entirely true, sorry! There are actually 4 volcanoes. Before we left we had a beautiful sunset view of all four of them at once. If the view was not so expansive you would have an epic picture to enjoy. Now onto stories of the rental car and the journey around the lake district. We figured the best way to see the lake district without spending copious amounts of time would be to rent a car. Renting a car makes ... read more

Hola, I have seen quite a bit since my last post but to give you an overview: meat, never better, and beauty. Meat refers to the absolute favorite and practically ridiculous food of choice. Never better refers to never seeing any waterfall better than Iguazu falls. Beauty refers to the people of Santa Fe and Rosario. Each place has been great, the bus rides have been long, and I am loving South America! Buenos Aires (BA) is a very big city that is full of diversity. BA is similar to New York City in that it consists of multiple burrows. Each burrow is very distinct. Each one you visit has the feel of a different city. We stayed in the historical part of town and the streets are lined with very old and very beautiful buildings. ... read more

Hello all, I am writing from Salt Lake City, Utah and I am about to embark on a 3 month journey to South America with my friend Dylan. Dylan and I have gone on an epic adventure every other summer since 2005. First was Europe, second was Asia, and now South America. The journeys have been great and progressively easier/more fun as we learn how to travel, how to experience, how to enjoy, how to endure, and how to deal with each other. Dylan and I are both in great places in life so I hope this trip is nothing but awesome. I hope as a reader you get to enjoy the blog and not only learn about South America, Dylan, and me, but also some of the culture and philosophy of different experiences in South ... read more
