Made it down from Dublin on the train. Definitely the way to go. A little more expensive than the aircoach but quicker and very easy. Excellent ride. Arrived in Cork and staying near downtown so I had a day or two to check things out. A few nice church tours, toured an old prison and took in the sites in Cork. Had time for a pint or two also.... read more

Finally a few pics from Zorritos. Tonight is the big game in the finals of the COPA from Argentina between Peru and Uraguay. About 7 pm tonight it is going to be very loud and no one will be around working. Everyone will be glued to the television sets and all of them will have the volume turned all they way up so it won't matter where you are you will hear the game.... read more

Finally left Huanchaco behind. Great place and very relaxed but time to move north. A quick flight landed me in Talara where I stayed overnight before heading off to Mancora. What a great place! Good beach, good food, nice people and places to stay to meet all budgets. I am going to post more pics tomorrow but here are the last few from Huanchaco and the first few taken as I checked out the area in Mancora.... read more

July 8th 2011

Spent the day touring El Brujo and Chan Chan but also got the chance to visit a little local fishing village, drive though the sugar cane fields, see a sugar cane processing factory and spending time with a nice local guide. He speaks no English so that is why I think we ended up at the little local spots. The workers in the field work incredibly hard and have little towns right in the area of the fields. There are also massive chicken farms in this area with over 4 million chickens housed. Chan Chan was conquered by the Incas who were eventually defeated by the Spanish. El Brujo was a time period previous to Chan Chan. Amazing museum there but no pictures allowed due to the delicate nature of the remains.... read more

Arrived in Huanchaco, got settled in and checked out the area. Right along the Pacific but very quiet this time of year. I am staying right on the water in a nice little place. The fisherman here fish in boats made of reeds the same as they did several hundred years ago. These boats only last 3 to 6 months. The reeds are a plant that is triangular in shape. There are also many surfers in this area as they have some of the best surfing in the world in this area. The place is known for its cebiche but until my stomach is better there may not be much going into it. ... read more

About to leave Huaraz. Stayed at Olaza's Guesthouse and could not have been more pleased. The owner Tito is very helpful and the staff are all wonderful. The view from the top floor where you have breakfast are amazing and have to be among the best in Huaraz. The rooms are very clean, hot water available and the breakfast every morning is great. Eggs, fruit, bread, coffee or tea and served on the deck. Very reasonable prices and just a few blocks from the main plaza. Had a great time and can't say enough about the way they treat their guests. All the pic's can show you more as these were taken right before leaving. On to Huanchaco......... read more

July 5th 2011

The last two days have been spent climbing Vallunaraju and surround peaks. It was about a two hour drive even though it is probably about 20 miles and then a several hour climb to where the guide and myself set up base camp. Just reaching this camping area and viewing the surrounding landscape great. After a few hours of restlesss sleep at this altitude it was off to the climb at 12:30. Very cold and somewhat difficult we spent the next 12 hours climbing and trekking in the area. The pics do a much better job of showing the area then I could do with words.... read more
