We both woke up far too early with unexpected hangovers. (It later turned out that the beer was mcuh stronger than we were lead to believe!!!). By now, we were thoroughly exhausted and this had not been helped by the 2 hour wait at the ferry port. Our bus had arrived Chumpuan at 4am and we had to wait for a few hours at a little cafe before once again boarding the bus and being taken to the ferry. The train ride was almost as relaxing as the monster journeys we had become accustomed to in India. We both slept reasonably well and arrived in Bangkok station at around 7am. We jumped in a tuk-tuk and headed for ko San Road, as it appeared to be the most popular destination for all travellers. We arrived to quite a bussling street with many people arriving and departing, lugging there bags around, and yet we still seemed to be carrying the largest and probably the heaviest! We didn’t rush to get out of bed but had all of our stuff packed up and ready to go by 1pm. The scooter that Mark had become quite attached to now had to be returned. That was the first task and as we felt like we had already exhausted ourselves, we headed off for a massage! After a wonderful oily Thai massage, we headed to a little café in a tiny side street and had an amazing feast for very little money and were thoroughly satisfied. Ollie had a good nights sleep and was almost ready to embrace Chiang Mai and make his entry back into society! Around midday we ventured into the city centre to run a few errands. First on the list was the hospital in an attempt to try and get Ollie's passport back. This proved to be a lot harder than we had initially anticipated. Eventually, the insurance company faxed a guarantee through to the hospital and we were able to pay the final bill and leave. This week was spent in Hospital with endless blood tests to find out what was wrong with Ollie. The Doctor had no idea but i was responding to a drug to treat typhus fever so he kept me on that and they controlled my little fever which was nice! Mark spent his time rushing around Chiang Mai getting things for me and bringing back food and drinks. Apart from this it was a very boring week spent lying in bed and getting slowly better. Ollie woke up feeling pretty rough this morning and had a nice little fever going on. After waiting for a while to see if it would sort itself out i decided it wasn't going to and asked Mark to drive me to hospital. They checked me over and then admitted me to keep an eye on me and try to bring down the high fever. Mark spent his day running back and forth collecting passports, insurance documents and various other items. We didn't rush to get out of bed, simply because the journey from Laos had taken its toll, both physically and mentally! Mark, however was rushing out the door and downstairs at 10.59 to stuff his face with the complimentary breakfast! (breakfast stoped at 11am) After a short rest, we ventured out into Chaing Mai. The guesthouse we were staying at was not centrally located but was the older sister of the guesthouse we had stayed at in Luang Prabang! After a few toilet breaks and stopping for a meal sometime in the night we reached Bokeo, near the Thai border at around 9.30. It was a short Tuk Tuk ride from Bokeo to Huay Xai, the border, where we were dropped off and told to walk down a narrow side street which looked nothing like a major border crossing! Reaching the bottom we found a hut and were stamped out of Laos. Much of Today was spent preparing ourselves mentally for the journey ahead and relaxing before a long bus ride. As 4 o clock rolled around we discovered that there was nobody around to take our payment for the last 6 or so days, or to give us our bus tickets. We waoted for a ittle while and then counted up our bill and bar tab and left the money for them, luckily we also searched the desk and found our tickets for the bus.
