After months and months of preparation, scrounging what I could to save, and one hell of a summer, I'm off to explore South America. I feel like there are too many beautiful things in this world, and life is much too short to not do everything in your power to experience it. I also believe that the only footprints in life that matter are the ones beneath your feet. Live for the moment, and enjoy your surroundings.

New Years Eve / Bday After a few days of rest, we were ready to rip it up for the good ‘ol 31st of December! Daniella from Lima flew in to party with us which was cool and weak at the same time haha. The day started pretty chill; just sleeping in at our apartment and getting some French toast in the pan! That’s the thing I love about having an apartment, we can eat the good food. We can make all the stuff that we’re use to eating at home, like, just to mention a few, pancakes, eggs on toast, pasta dishes and Mac n’ Cheese haha. I will never take that cheesy goodness for granted ever again. So the day was off to a good start. I felt 24 because I’ve been ready to ... read more

Cuzco Time for Christmas and New Years and what better place to spend it than a city filled with gringos, thousands of miles away from my family and friends. Whatever, I still managed to have a good time. We got to Cuzco which is the tourist capital of South America. It’s 3200 meters above sea level so it definitely felt like home because of the cold! We found a really nice hostel right near the main plaza so that was good. We were planning to rent quads for Christmas day but it ended up raining pretty hard so that idea got scratched. So instead we relaxed in our hostel and watched a bootlegged version of Borat haha. That movie is ridiculous but soooo funny! “Sex crime HIGH FIVE” haha. In the meantime we arranged a trip ... read more

Lima Rolling into Lima was CRAZY. The amount of pollution was ridiculous. In the downtown area, at night, you can actually see clouds of pollution in the headlights of cars at. It’s like a light fog. It’s hard to believe that people breathe this nasty air all day, every day. Luckily for me, I was headed to Mira Flores which is quite a ways from downtown Lima. We got to our hostel in Mira Flores and were right in the main square which was beautiful. Lots of lights, like Vegas style. Flashing signs, lots of people, pimps, playas, and hustlas! Haha. But seriously it was a really nice area. Near by was a place called Larcomar which is situated right on the coast. It’s brand new and has a lot of things that feel like home ... read more

Cajamarca Before I start this blog I would like to say Merry Christmas to all of you. Today is Christmas and it is very hard to be away from home. I am, however, grateful for the opportunities that have come my way to make this all happen. I miss everybody right now more than ever but hope that you all have great holidays. I wrote this next blog a while ago and right now I am in Cusco, Peru. I wanna give a couple shouts to my Mom, Dave and Tyler. My Mom is holding together the house and family in Lantzville, while my Dad has been nominated for the Hall of Fame in Victoria for racing! A once in a lifetime achievement! My bro is off to Salmon Arm in Feb to start school...I´m comin ... read more

Chachapoyas Before I start this blog I just wanted to say thanks for reading and checkin out the pics and coming along my trip with me. I really appreciate the comments and remember, I respond to every one so leave me one and check back in a few days for the response and feel free to drop another one. Happy New Years y´aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal...here´s my lates entry.... While we were in Cajamarca, we were torn on whether to go to Chachapoyas or not. It would be a 20 hour trip. Tour companies were offering a 3 day trip for $250 which includes a comfortable ride in a 4x4, all our food and accommodations. The problem is that that’s over double our budget for 3 days. So we decided to do the trek ourselves and find our own ... read more

Chiclayo Chiclayo is said to be a city filled with historic sites and good people. It's a popular city due to the fact it has amazing sites and it's right on the Pan-American highway on the west coast. We arrived at night and were greeted by a very feo cab driver. His name was Hebert and was nice enough to help us with all of our stuff into his cab. While we were driving to a new hostel he recommended, he was telling us all about the great things in Chiclayo. He offered to show us everything (for a price of course). But when you divided up the cost between the 4 of us, it ended up to be $10 each. A wicked price for a personal chauffer! He dropped us off at the Tumbes hostel ... read more

Mancora We left the bus station in Loja at 10pm, bound for the Peruvian boarder. We ran into this guy who turned out to be from Whiterock! It was so cool. We were talking about the mainland and I dropper a few names to see if he knew some people that I did. He didn't hahaha Anyways we jumped on the bus and ended up at the border at around 2am. It went smoothly and we got through without any problems. The only strange thing was when we got to the Peruvian side of the bridge (because we had to walk across it to the Peruvian office) there were about 80 chickens on the road, tied up and for sale! You could buy one, or a bag full of them. It was a crazy site, seeing ... read more

Vilcabamba We had to take a bus from Guayaquil to Loja, and then transfer onto another bus that would take us to this little colonial town in Southern Ecuador, Vilacbamba; our final stop in Ecuador. We got there in the afternoon and found this hostel owned by a Canadian! His name is Marcel and he was excited to see other Canadians because Vilacabamba doesn’t see as many tourists as other places. The hostel was dope! It had a pool, comfortable beds, and a great restaurant. We checked in then hit town. We were sauntering through the main square when we looked in a shop and couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw the classic red bandana and black beard. Geoff and Kelly ended in the town at the exact same time as us! Haha. We thought ... read more

After a nice bus ride out of Montanita, we arrived into Guayaquil at around 5pm. We caught a cab with Miguels new friend Diane and went to her place. There just happened to be a McDonalds near by so we couldn’t help ourselves haha. It had been 3 and a half weeks since I tasted REAL grease lol. So we dined in style and dignity. :p After dinner we went back to Dianes place where Ivan picked us up. Ivan is a computer programmer / university student. He is studying for his masters and is taking English classes as well. He was quick to offer us a tour around Guayaquil in his car with our other new friends Bridgette and Karla. Everyone was so nice to us and didn’t hesitate when there was something they could ... read more

After the exhausting jungle trip Miguel and I agreed that we needed the beach and sunshine again. The girls mentioned that they were planning to go to this little beach city on the coast and mentioned that we should go with them. Even though it was a bit of a back-track, we didn’t care because it was the long weekend here, and apparently everyone rolls into this little town. So, after returning to Baños for one last night, we found a bus to Guayaquil which would host a connector bus to Montañita. We decided to take a day bus for once so we could see the Andes as we traveled through them. We left Baños at 11am. The bus we were on was just as weak as the last 8 lol. Whatever though, we’re on ... read more
