Well, hanging out with Berne was bound to lead to some interesting things... Let's see, we ended up hanging out most of the rest of the day after spitting some flows in the park. Well, something really funny just happened, so I figured I'd try to write about it. I just met this dude Bern who is a rapper from LA, but he grew up in Belize, and went to LA first when he was younger, and got deported back to Belize. But then he made it back to America again, got lawyers and got legal. Now he is livin his dream of being a rap star, he does dance hall reggea, he calls it. It's really cool. Well, at this point, I hardly know what to say. It´s been so long, and I´m so far behind in writing that it´s almost funny. it´s been 3 months already and it feels like it was nothing. We´ve come a long way yet. After studying spanish for a week, it is much stronger and I speak more confidently. I know all kinds of words like actualemente and other crazy stuff...with my spanish teacher I talked about life, death, government, art, philosophy, ways of living, and other advanced subjects all in spanish! Yesterday we came from Chichicastenango, which has this huge market on Sunday. All the local indigenous people come from all around, carrying huge bundles of clothes, masks, or whatever. I am now in Quetzaltenango, usually called Xela. Today was a big festival, I´m actually not sure what it is called! It was very fun though, in the main park, people made big pictures on the road surrounding, and all made of saw dust. I can still hear the sound of bombs bursting in the air as I write this--they were really loud, launched right from the park. Then they explode, and make quite that bang. We arrived to Guatamala a few days ago, I think 5, only to find out it is very cold! You never would have known, but from San Cristobal, Mexico, we went to the border. There in front of us loomed huge mountains. As soon as we crossed the border, it was easy to tell we were in a whole new country. Todo, we´re not in mexico anymore! There was generally more bustle, more people about, and more trash on the streets. The busses were old school busses from the states, and they are colorfully decked out. Now for a little something different. I´m just going to put some pics up and tell the stories. Before it was all text, now all pictures, good balance. We are soon to head down to Guatamala. San Cristobol is great. Yesterday we went to a small maya village, chamalu. It was hard to take pictures, because it was native people living as they had for many centuries.
