Prague Julie J Vanover I left Cesky Krumlov on the bus, which is the fastest way to go becuase of the work that they are doing on the railroads. So I thought it couldn't be too bad... famous last words. The guy in front of me had this huge single dread lock that he pulled off of his head about 5 inches up with this huge head band. He put this dread of hair over the seat and practically in my face. If I leaned forward more than a few inches than it was right there. He kept falling asleep [View Full Entry]

My first view of Cesky Krumov
As I was walking down into town from the train station this was the first sight of the old city that I had.
Cesky Krumlov Julie J Vanover I had thought about going to Cesky Kromluv, but after it was highly recommended by another backpacker I decided that I would go. It is this incredibly cute town in the south of the Czech Republic. The touristy part is the old part of town that the river snakes through making for many little bridges and winding streets around the river and you could get from one side to the other in 15 minutes if you really hurried. I arrived much later than I had wanted to because I missed the train in Vienna and [View Full Entry]

I couldn´t get a really good picture of this because all the buildings were too close, but look at the roof. I just love the little details like this.
Vienna Julie J Vanover When I got to my hostel they had overbooked and so I got a private room with a double bed all to myself for the same price as a dorm! Wow! I was in heaven, but they were booked out the next night so I would only have one day to explore Vienna. So I hit the ground running and was very shocked with how much ground I covered and how beautiful Vienna was. When I went through my pictures I was so suprised at how many there were and how beautiful they all were. I [View Full Entry]

Budapest Julie J Vanover I didn't really know what to see in Budapest other than the thermal baths and the Fisherman's Warf. So I was very pleasantly suprised at how much there was to do and see and how much I liked Budapest. I arrived on a holiday so most things were closed, so when I saw a sign to go caving at my hostel I signed up! I had a few hours before caving started so I explored some of the city. I saw the Gellert Hotel and Bath House, the Citadel and this weird cave church thing. The [View Full Entry]

Munich and Castles

 Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich
Munich Julie J Vanover When I arrived in Munich I thought about what I really wanted to see here- which was the Neuschwanstein Castle and the Romantic Road. Neither of which are in Munich, they are both day trips from Munich. So I explored Munich and saw the glockenspiel- which is quite a sight- and the famous beer halls and then was going to do my day excursions from Munich. So I headed out to Garmish to see Neuschwanstein Castle. A 1 1/2 hour train ride there and I found out this isn't where the castle is, the castle is [View Full Entry]

Switzerland Julie J Vanover After four days in Paris I have to admit that anything would feel welcoming, but Switzerland was so beautiful and welcoming! It was just what I needed. The closer I got to Switzerland the prettier the scenery was and I arrived in Switzerland in Geneva- right on the lake. I was instantly in love! Just riding on the train was wonderful because there were such wonderful things to look at. I continued on the train through Bern to Interlaken where I was staying and just looked out the windows at all the [View Full Entry]

Paris Julie J Vanover Je suis un ananas- or I am a pinapple. This is the only thing that I remembered from my French class and it was a silly saying that we said all the time because we thought it was funny. It did not however prove to be helpful for me in Paris. I was very excited to see and experience Paris. I arrived from the worst nights sleep on a night train from Madrid. The train was so bumpy all night long, by far the worst night train that I have had. This trashy pregnant French girl [View Full Entry]

Sevilla Julie J Vanover I have been so excited to see Sevilla since the we watched a show about it in my Spanish class and it did not disappoint. The city is beautiful, lively and has so much energy and warmth. I arrived a little later in the day than I had wanted to and the main sites that I wanted to see were closing soon so I walked the city. I walked through Santa Cruz, one of their cool old neighborhoods with small winding streets. I explored several of their huge parks that were beautiful with fountains and different [View Full Entry]

Lisbon Julie J Vanover I arrived in Lisbon early in the morning fresh from a nights sleep on the train. I arrived at my hostel and had breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast!!! Oh it was so good, by far the best breakfast that I have had. I was preparing to leave for the days adventours when Daniel arrived in the bed next to me. He had just landed from Brazil so we headed off together to explore Lisbon. He's from Brazil, so he speaks Portuguese, super bonus! We first went to Saint Jorge's Castle, which is an old castle [View Full Entry]

Madrid

Europe » Spain » District of Madrid
Madrid Julie J Vanover I did Madrid in several visits, I knew that I would need to pass through here to get to Lisbon and Paris so I would visit the city in the middle of these trips. I had heard that Madrid was a little bit harder of a city to fall in love with than other Spanish cities. I got there and took the Metro to the Puerto de la Sol and understood why. I walked around the Plaza and asked myself ´Why was I supposed to see this?´ It doesn´t have the charm of Barcelona, but after [View Full Entry]
