Not too bad. The whole process has been outsourced to another company. Bit of research from Si H helped "I went along to the Indian embassy and had a chat. Thankfuly it help remind me of what we can expect ... lots of 'yes's'... little information and a scrappy bit of paper. the gist of all this was that the following web site is the one to use, victoria the place to go, and you can indeed do it all on-line ... should take 3 working days... however, as you might be aware there is the odd postal strike in london, and I would therefore recommend in person or special delivery both ways!!!". Mike G - drop off 25/09 - just under 2 hrs, pick up 30/09 - 15 mins if you leave it late. Dave ... read more

At least two years in the planning stage. The original idea was actually set in 1999 - when over 20 close friends agreed to celebrate our 30th birthday year in style. A weekend in Cork, Ireland was organised and a good time had by all. So good, in fact, that all of us vowed to continue this tradition of celebrating the bigger birthdays every five years. 10 years on - with all the pressures of modern life. Relationships, jobs, children etc - there are just 4 of us heading off to India. The Intrepid Four... read more

Our last few days relaxing at the lovely Octopus Resort, on Waya Island in the Yasawa's - about 1.5 hours by boat from mainland Fiji. I went for a scuba dive this morning - it was a wall dive with 25m of visibility! Lovely coral fans off the side of the wall. In the afternoon we snorkelled on the reef just off from the beach. Although it had been a tiring day we still joined in finding crabs to race (from the beach). Our crab - or Mr Crab (21) - won the International Crab race and we set to work on the prize - A bar tab of F$30. Easily done with just Emily's wine consumption! ... read more

Its getting to the end of our grand camper van tour around NZ, and we have enjoyed it immensely! Heading North from Dunedin towards Christchurch - theres just time to stop off and see some silly boulders in the sand at MOERAKI and a few yellow eyed penguins at OAMARU. Its our last NZ sunset we fly to FIJI tomorrow!... read more

Spent a couple of days in Dunedin. Took a trip on the famous Taieri Gorge Railway which stretches 77kms north east from Dunedin into the high country of Otago. It penetrates rugged mountain scenery which is only accessible by train. Some of the views were fantastic.... read more

After a day of rest in Te Anau where it rains all the time, we took a trip to Milford Sound where it rains all the time! We stopped several times on the way for short walks to waterfalls ... it rained! We then took a boat trip on Milford Sound ... the adverse weather conditions gave the area a mysterious feel. Temporary waterfalls were cascading down every crack in the rocks, sometimes falling down sheer rock faces. We were blessed with a slight clearing of the skies and as we returned to harbour a pod of dolphins came out to play alongside the boat. ... read more

This morning we drove out to the start of the 'Rob Roy' track. The drive was on very bumpy unsealed roads, culminating in a '4WD recommended' section. However after being passed by 2 other camper vans we decided to contine. Eventually we got to the start of the walking track. We followed the track, climbing for about 2 hours before being rewarded with spectacular views of the Rob Roy glacier... An excellent spot for a picnic. Approaching the glacier, we could hear the rumblings of an avalanche - we were saftely on the other side of the valley.... read more

Fantastic day .... We reported in early at 'Alpine Guides' for our day glacier hike. A short bus ride and then a scramble over some rocks and we were at the glacier. After strapping on crampons and armed with a spiked walking stick we were ready to face the glacier. Our 2 guides led the way and used ice axes to cut steps in the glacier. We spent over 6 hours on the ice. The views were spectacular.... read more

Punakiaki is famous for its 'pancake' rocks. So called because the limestone rocks have weathered to resemble stacks of pancakes. At high tide the sea is forced through blowholes in the rocks to give spectacular effects.... read more

On Boxing Day, we visited Farewell spit which is the most northerly point of the south island at the end of Golden Bay. The spit is a nature reserve and can only be visitied on guided tours. So off we went on our trip... lots of sand. We walked amongst seals (fighting - again) and along the 22km sand spit past some dead and beached whales. The lighthouse was a bit disapointing as you couldn't go in but you did get good views. We then drove south to Kaiteriteri to kayak Abel Tasman. It was fun but we only paddled for a half day and we could have pushed ourselves further. However we did have a mini tramp in the bush - and the weather stayed good. ... read more
