29/10/05 - Namib desert Its Hot - Its Dusty - Its Hot! We're definately in a desert. Arrived at our Desert Camp - completely in the middle of nowhere. The camp is fantastic with an outside loo where you can do your business while star gazing. Peter Woolfe (real name) took us on a night game drive where we saw springboks, oryxs and other desert animals and birds. It was great! Two nights here and then off to the sand dunes. 30/10/05 - Sand dunes at Sossusvlei Blimey those sand dunes are big and sandy ... less so now given the amount taken away in our boots. 25/10/05 - Orange River Into Namibia today! We all got through the border no sweat - it took our guide a little bit longer. Still there were plenty of volunteers to drive the truck! Today we start our 2 day river adventure along the Orange River. With all stuff packed into a plastic bucket we are off - in 2 man canoes. Extra tubs contained food, beer and wood for that evenings camping. It was hard push - the rapids not too bad! Fantastic chicken casserole and sleeping under the stars just on the grass. 27/10/05 - Fish River Canyon Trekked the ridge of Fish River Canyon in southern Nambia. Cold beers at sunset - lovely! ... read more

Well goodness me - we are on our trip. What has Emily done??? The flights were not as bad as they could have been - lots of wine and an overnight sleep. Although we were delayed for 30 mins at Johannesbourg on the internal flight to Cape Town as no one had a key for the departure gate. We have now spent a day in Cape Town - on an open top bus - visited a Castle - and more importantly drank our first Castle premium lager. Hopefully the first of many! Our official overland tour starts tomorrow - with a visit to the Stellenbosch winelands. Oh well life's tough... ... read more
