Scary Lima Hey guys - glad to hear all is well and as it should be. Last year my trip started in Lima as well - same crazy taxis and my luggage took five days to arrive! Have a great time but keep a close eye on your gear - everyone I met in South America had something stolen at some point. But it's great for all that.

have a great trip You have made the right choice...traveling is always an amazing experience, but for a year is something you will never forget (especially with someone special). My husband and I got back last July from a year around the world and it was the best decision ever. It was long and sometimes hard, but always an experience to be remembered when you get home. Life is too short to wait!!! All the best on your travels. www.travelblog/bloggers/weez--n--wife
Good luck! HEyyy... ;)
I'm fascinated by your decisions...and although we don't know each other I support you... and admire, in a way. :) and hope you'll have the time of your life...I'm sure you won't regret doing this. And I promise you to be 'with you' during all the 12 months. Well, good luck!! Have fun!!
greetings from croatia! Angela
good luck just wanna wish you guys an envious good luck for your journey! Me and my girlfriend did 12 months last year. THE BEST THING YOU WILL EVER DO, some advice, there are many people out there trying to con you, try and keep this to a minimum. You will meet many good friends along the way as well!I will keep up with ya along the way.
I'm coming with you!!! sitting in my office reading travel blog has become an obsession since my trip finished and lately all the good bloggers seem to be ending their trips....glad I have caught yours so early I will be coming with you all the way now!!! please tell us about all the crazy shit that happens and not about the facts or the logistics....
Good luck! Just reading your blog having come back recently from my own six month jaunt with my now fiance (see our pic from Macchu Piccu where he proposed) and wanted to wish you best of luck. We had a few ups and downs on our trip, but overall it was absolutely unforgettable. If you run out of money in NZ or Oz, you can do something called WWOOFing, where you work on farms or at people's homes for your bed and board...yes, it does involve work, but can also be quite fun! Check out my blog at www.travelblog.org/bloggers/simon--and-alex for some ideas on NZ - we were there for 5 months so pretty much had it covered!
Doing something similar Hi,
glad you made this decision, I think it will be one of the best in the life.
I have quit my job 3 months ago and also travel in Asia right now (Cambodia).
What can I say? The mind is relieved from unnecessary routinous things that occupied it last 10 years, I became more relaxed and easy going, things don't seem so important as they were before.
Best of luck in your travels.

Wow! Reading your first blog brings tears to my eyes. I am currently in China with my husband of nearly 8 months after having decided that we, too, would take a year off from the grind to travel the World. I am an attorney back home (in Chicago) and my husband is self-employed as a computer consultant. Needless to say, it was very difficult to leave our jobs for a year to travel. My mother, who has been terribly sad since I've left home, has encouraged me time and time again to live life to its fullest because nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. I wish you the best of luck in your travels with your wife. My husband and I have been traveling for 3 1/2 months now and it has been the best decision of our lives. Your story has truly touched me and has motivated me to enjoy every moment of every day -- especially with the person I love the most! Thank you for your story!

YAY for you! Oh I'm excited and stupidly jealous of you guys! I know I just finished my own version of this trip, but it's already fading and I'd so love to start again. Meanwhile, I'm looking for a job (nice that you've worked that part out) and watching the cat chase her tail - the best part about being home! Now put away your apprehension and go - it will be good and weird and occassionally annoying - but it will be wonderful! And going together means someone to watch your bags while you have to run to the loo in transit. :)
The tears are coming.... You guys just had to make me cry whilst I'm sitting at work didn't you. I managed to hold them back when we said goodbye to you on Saturday but you had to go and write some beautiful words and remind me of the journey you've taken this last year and that I'm not going to see you for a year............. I love you both x x
Well done you! Michael, what inspirational writing - thank you - truly worthy of publishing as a guide to beat the Lonely Plant to a pulp! It has made me determined to include China on my itinerary now I have your experiences to follow. I am a late comer to the Gap Year (53 next month and only just managed to push the darlings out of the door!) but it's got to be now or never; I'd never manage all those steps if I leave it much longer!! I love that you and Faye have made the brave and exciting decision to get out there and enjoy your dreams together. I imagine you will have some fantastic times and I wish you both all the luck in the world. Please keep up the writing!
So... It's been six years since we got back from our big family travels. A lot can happen in six years and the kids are growing at a pace that's completely overwhelming.
We have 'settled' back into life in the UK, which for all its problems is an amazing country and we love it here. We've got back on track with our careers and the kids are progressing well with their schooling.
As for travel, thankfully we still haven't stopped. Over the last few years we've been to a few more places in Europe, spent many weeks in Thailand and Malaysia, celebrated our 10 yea... full info
