Early the 4th of July Cathrine and I drove the 5 hour long drive to Juvasshytta(1841m), and Galdhøpiggen(HP of Norway and Oppland). It might be worth mentioning that we killed a badger on the way.. Stupid animal ran out in front of the car, and no way we could possibly dodge it. Poor thing. At Juvasshytta we were definitely not alone! Grouping up with over 60 others and three guides, where two of them actually are Nepalisean sherpas spending the summer in Norway trying to sell of some trips to Himalaya. Dawa Sherpa has been to Everest eight times! The walk to the summit is divided into two seperate parts. First one walks in an individual tempo to the glacier styggebreen. From here the guides tie you up with the proper equipment and lead you across ... read more

Highpoint of Østfold. Since this would be a total waste of time for any foreigner to read, I will continue in Norwegian. If you for some wacked reason want to visit this top, feel free to contact me. Plass til par biler her. Herfra følger man veien innover. Etter fem minutter går det en avstikker til høyre, men bare følg veien rett fram. Etter 15min kommer man til et vann, følger bakkene ... read more

Flew with Ryanair down to Frankfurt, rental car to Basel (400+ km) with one night outside Karlsruhe. Basel was (as you can see from the pictures) totally filled with "oranjefans". Great atmosphere and 30+ degrees celsius and euro 2008, ohhhyah. Too bad there weren't so many Russians in town, wonder how it would've been with GER - NED.. The stadium was filled by approximately 40000 spectators, but for some reason 35000 sat still and shut up for most of the match. The last 5000 were Russians dancing around bear chested. Russians were far better both on and off pitch. I won the tickets thru coke.no (coca-cola), and they turned out to be category 1! An unforgettable day, and I *hope* that Norway will make it thru the South-Africa '10 qualification! Russian national anthem ... read more

Highpoint of Oslo. Drive from Lillestrøm to Stryken, map. Park at the railway station and make it across the bridge on the other side of the road. You should preferably use a bike. Now - continue straight ahead to the toll gate (not the first one at the left hand side). From here just follow the road signs to Sandungen (10km), and from Sandungen continue until the sign to Kirkeberget appears on the right hand side. From here it's a 30-40min hike thru the forest up to the top. A little over 150 vertical meters (the ride from Stryken to Sandungen is ~100 vertical m.). From Stryken to top took us a little below three hours. The return little over an hour, being almost only downhill. Total length ~32km. ... read more

Europe » Norway » Eastern Norway » Hurdal June 17th 2008

Just a short trip to the highpoint of Akershus, Fjellsjøkampen(812m). To get here just drive to Hurdal following "riksveg 180". When down in the city centre make a left in the roundabout, and a right when you pass the church. Following this road for a few minutes a road sign to "Fjellsjøkampen" will appear. The walk from the end of the road is approximately 50 minutes long, and 300 vertical meters. The trail is marked with blue, but do continue past the beacon. Some people have turned around here, believing to be at the top. At the top there's a manbuilt tower, so one can have a fairly good view over the tree tops. ... read more

Some pictures from my trip to Gaustatoppen(1883m) together with a friend. Gaustatoppen is the highest point in Telemark, and by many considered as one of the most beautiful mountains in Norway. For information in English on how to get there check out http://www.ii.uib.no/~petter/mountains/1500mtn/gausta.html. Now Gaustatoppen is indeed one of the most touristed mountains in Norway, and this for a good reason. From the summit one can view an area of approximately 60000km², a greater view than from any other mountain on the Norwegian mainland. The trek to the top is fairly easy aswell, but one should estimate 3 hrs up and 2 hrs down on the first trek and keep in mind that you are going more than 700m upwards from the parking spot. So even though it is fairly easy, it's not really a walk ... read more

Europe » Italy » Tuscany » Florence April 7th 2008

18.-22. March 2008 These pictures are a month old, but hopefully Italy hasn't changed *that* much since then. So here's how we visited Florence, Pisa and Rome in three days. Day 1 So, our first day (after arrival, arrival = day 0) in Florence took us down to the famous Duomo of Santa Maria Cathedral. Personally im not very intrigued by churches, but from what I've heard this was a must see. So we visited both the campanile and Florence Cathedral as you can see from the pictures. I'm not sure what the exact number of steps were, but we surely walked over 1600 steps in 1 1/2 hour(sigh?). Now Florence is somewhat small and therefore we had no problem's reaching all the famous spots by foot. Proceeding down to url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pala... read more
