Australia - Cairns 31st August Australia, looking forward to abit of normality, after spending so long in SE.Asia, with its challenges, and frequent meals of rice and noodles! Spent first day finding bearings, really small town so didn’t take long! Met a group of people instantly and spent the week visiting various beaches. One day we hired a car and drove all the way to Cape Tribulation, which is where the rainforest meets the sea, right at the north point on the East coast! We stopped at various places on route for a picnic and taking in the surroundings! Then 4 days later, Malina arrived!yeyy! she was here for a 2 week holiday and we had decided to rent a campervan, and drive from Cairns to Brisbane! We named the Van ‘Mab-mobil’, or ‘Ban’ for short, ... read more

Pagandaran 7hour hot sweaty crammed smoky horrible bus to Pagandaran from Bogor. Arrived and had made friends with Martijn (Holland) and Veronique (French, who would be the first of many of the French Maffia I were to be acquainted with in Indonesia- Stephen, im thinking of you here!). We then spent the next 3 hours trying to find accomodation - again, this is no exaggeration from the very truth of it, Indonesian holidays and everywhere was still full! Finally found somewhere though and went for a meal with some other people we’d met on route. Next day, surfing lesson day! Absolutely brilliant, not a world champ yet or chasing the tubes, but I managed to get up at least for a few seconds before bundling into the sea and nearly drowning! Visited the Green Canyon, so ... read more

Indonesia - Jakarta Time for a change in country, yet again. I was flying to Jakarta but had been unable to find any accomodation as it was the local holidays! Last minute change of plan, whilst sat in KL airport, I read about a homestay programme where you live with locals and they show you how they live etc. So having arranged it all with the guy I was met in a place called Bogor by one of his students. He has young lads who work for and with him who are English teachers, but they show people like me around in order to practice their English, in return I get to meet and live like a local person would! This has got to be one of the best things I did, I lived with a ... read more

Kuala Lumpar tues 7th july Next destination, Kuala Lumpar. Arrived stupidly late at night, luckily was meeting Adam, a guy I had met in Lao all those many months back, so room and accomodation was sorted out! Accom was abit minging though especially as in most of SE Asia you can smoke everywhere and anywhere so was pretty gassed out in this place! Next day went mooching around KL, was a nice city in the business type area, nice botanic gardens but china town and the like were a bit dodgy! Had a good night out with Adam and co in the Reggae bar that didn’t play Reggae, then the next day was set sail yet again for the Cameron Highlands! Cameron Highlands was a nice refreshing break from the heat of KL, being so high ... read more

Back from the paradise that was Mabul and was time for us all to say our good byes, including Joia who I had met in Kota kinabalu, then refound in Mabul! Then I was off to catch a flight to Bario on the West coast of Borneo. The only way to get here was by a little people plane. I had found out about it from Joia, thought it sounded fun, so there I was on my 10person carrier, with a new bod I met in Miri and a little old local lady with massive stretched holes on her lobes (which, I presume as she had been to Miri, the neasrest local town,) she had the decency - or sense im not sure which, to loop them over the top of her ears, so they didn’t ... read more

Saturday 20th June Flight to Kota Kinabalu, got charged for being over weight then for being 2 days over visa!! Got to KK late so no buses to catch into City! Two girls saw my plight of trying to sort a taxi and took me under their wing! Found some accommodation and went for a beer at a local bar with a live band, randomely saw Andres and his friend in the same place! Theres just no escape from people out here! Hehe Next morning went to ferry terminal to go and visit some islands off the coast of KK, Andres was poorly so couldn’t make it, made friends with 3 guys waiting in the queue for the ferry tickets, Danish and 2 aussies, ended up spending about 3 weeks ish with them in the end! ... read more

Jogjakarta Next port of call, bus to Jogja. Went with French couple id met, and found a nice accomodation complete with pool! Had a toot around the city but was abit dissapointed with the place, made out to be a lot more quirky in guide book than it actually was…..bonus though, we found a food festival, smiles all round from me! Re-met Martijn and Veronique here, and we all went to watch the Ramayan Ballet performance, which is basically a Romeo & Juliet version performed in a ballet show! ... read more

Kuta Adrian (Aussie guy I met in ubud) had hired a car, so we went for a mooch in the countryside before hitting the legend known as Kuta! As soon as we got there, we were surrounded by so many Australian tourists! It’s like their version of Malaga or something to us! Hit the beach straight away and was sitting mindin my own business when someone walking past stops and stares at me…its only Maximiillien Maximus! The one and only! Haha I have seen this guy so many times on this trip! So spent afternoon catching up and spent about a week together after that. A friend came from England for 2 weeks, so we spent 4days in kuta doing little else but going out at night drinking and sleeping off the hang over by the ... read more

Ubud Arrived to Denpasar after a lovely 16hour bus ride, wasn’t so bad actually nice comfy seats etc. Then got a motorbike taxi to Ubud, complete with 20kg bag and day pack - yes on a motorbike, the main rules of the road to remember here is there are no rules! Its every man for himself, nobody gives way, pedestrians are given no right of way even on a foot path where you will find cars and bikes sneaking up, and both drive the wrong way down a busy main road…..so with all that in mind, we set off to Ubud! Ubud really nice, quite touristy, but was nice to meander through the art gallerys, have a coffee or two and take it easy! Went on some nice walks in the rice paddy fields. Met a ... read more
