We ended up booking a snorkeling trip from Trang to go the Emerald Cave which is something we've been looking forward to since the beginning. It was a bit expensive but worth it. Our boat was pretty big. They told us there were 200 people booked on the same trip the day before so they had to use 3 boats and our trip had 9 people which was great. It wasn't crowded at all and we met some nice Thai families. The view was awesome. Huge cliffs that jut out of the water and little rock islands that are narrower on the bottom than the top. Caves dotted the cliffs and bats hung from branches everywhere. They took us to 4 islands to snorkel which was amazing. We saw tons of fish and coral and the ... read more

Internet was so expensive in Koh Tao that I didn't really get a chance to update. Now we are in Trang, which is on the Andaman Coast. We are on our way to do a visa run in Malaysia since we found out that the Thai government stupidly changed the rules on us. When we came back in the country from Cambodia, we only got a 15 day stamp and we were confused but quickly found out that they only give you 30 days if you arrive via the airport and 15 days if you cross at a border crossing as we had. This really messed up our plans that we had made so carefully resulting in a few changes such as making our way all the way south to Malaysia when previously we were going ... read more

Happy New Year! Ok I am slipping with this travel blog. It's only because we have been having so much fun here in Cambodia! Our journey here was crazy as it was on a bus run by Vietnam. As soon as we crossed the Cambodian border it was like a breath of fresh air. We had to get off the bus with all of our stuff and pass it through an x-ray machine. Then each couple bought a litre of duty-free vodka for christmas. That was a bad idea but more on that later. We climbed back on the bus sans passports and worried about it as the bus took us further and further away from the border. We were seconds from asking where our passports were when we pulled into a restaurant. They then informed ... read more

We are in the southern most part of Vietnam now in a city called Vung Tau. I will go back and start with the past few days. We had a mostly uneventful night. Watched a movie on TV and I had that bath I was dreaming of. We were awoken at 6am by jackhammers in the torn-down building next to us. We gave up after a couple more hours and went to find our free breakfast. it had been sitting there since probably 5 am and was stone cold. i had some chow mein style noodles and hard as rock bread. the tea was good though. we ended up booking an overnight bus to Da Nang at 6pm so we had the whole day to kill. We walked around doing some window shopping since it is ... read more

So we have found ourselves randomly in Vietnam. We weren't going to visit any other countries other than Laos but our friends were coming here before they head home end of dec/mid january and we decided to tag along since we have a lot of time left. it is very expensive down south so we figured we would run out of money if we went there for 2 months. also the weather isn't very good where we wanted to go. monsoons and such. hopefully it gets better soon. we took a flight here yesterday from Vientiene, capital of Laos. it was a pretty awful city. not much to do there. we ate some really bad food and spent a whole day getting our visas for vietnam. our flight was only about a half hour which was ... read more

hello! We are in Vang Vieng, Laos now and about to hit the river for some tubing. I thought i would transfer some photos first so here i am. craig is still napping as we had a great wakeup of 4 men shoveling a 10 foot high pile of gravel outside our window and carting it away at 8:30 am. of course they stopped as soon as i gave up trying to sleep and finished showering. the journey here was absolutely crazy. we took a bus for about 6 hours to a town called Chiang Kong where we stayed in a guesthouse where everything was pepto bismal pink. the walls, curtains, mattresses, blankets. quite funny. we met an english 'bloke' from near Liverpool named Kev who is still travelling with us now. The next day we ... read more

Wow, it's been awhile. We have been so busy having fun in Chiang Mai that I almost forget what we have done. I will have to summarize I guess. We rented motorbikes again and went up to a small town called Pai, pronounced 'Bye.' the road there has 762 curves in it and it's about 100 km from where the curves start. i figured i wouldn't stand a chance in a bus with my motion sickness so despite the horror stories we'd read about we braved it. what a great idea! it was the most amazing drive through the most amazing countryside. it was like the B.C. of Thailand. absolutely gorgeous. we were told it would take 5-6 hours but we made it in just over 3. craig had a fun time trying to keep from ... read more

Chiang Mai is awesome! We are loving it so far. We have moved house a few times as the first place had a lumpy bed and had air conditioning which we don't like as much as a fan. then we moved across the street to the place we wanted in the first place and it ended up being SO LOUD and the bed must have had bedbugs because we were itching all night. i think i slept one hour total. we packed up early and walked a while to find a new place and our new place is fairly nice. quiet and has a fan, hot shower, normal toilet and the man running the show is great. we rented motorbikes again and drove to Doi Inthanon National Park known as "The Roof of Thailand" because it ... read more

Our 200 baht a night hut on the pier was not so bad at all. I didn't get a single bite. Other than it being noisy, it was a great place really. I woke up in the middle of the night to our first rain. More like monsoon! it was crazy. i went outside for a minute but there wasn't anywhere to stand in the rain. the whole pier is covered in most parts. in the morning the only evidence was the big puddles of water collected in the tarps overhead. we tried the restaurant we had dinner at our first time on the pier but they didn't have any muesli & yogurt (our fave breakfast) so we had toast. the bread is all just white bread here. sometimes it is thick but mostly it is ... read more

We finally escaped Pattaya, not our favorite place at all. Now we are on one of the biggest islands called Koh Chang. We took another 'bus' which is more like a big van from Pattaya to the ferry terminal and then walked on the ferry which is smaller than the gulf island ferries. A girl from Norway was on our 'bus' and we had to pull over for her to throw up. I'm surprised it wasn't me but my sea-bands worked or maybe it was the new wonderous gravol that i found that doesn't make me throw up. i bought it in vancouver before we left just to try it because unlike normal gravol it is made of ginger and it works amazingly! i am already worried about what to do when the 20 capsules i ... read more
