Hi all, Last thursday night we had dinner with friends we had met on the islands and met some of their friends too. We ended up sharing their room as our hostel was so disgusting! The next two days (friday and saturday) were spent lazing around the pool in the sun, topping up our tan! Just before we left for the airport we had dinner with 'the suncream natzi' Jane, then shared a taxi along some VERY bumpy roads! This was the beginnning of a very long day, as we would be living it twice! Apart from the medical emergency... our flight was pretty dull! At LA airport the immigration queue was so long that we thought we might miss our flight, however after running the 20minute walk to check-in, we were told our flight was ... read more
Bula!! we have been without the internet for over a week so sorry if this is rushed! On Monday night a Ngaio's it was "Family Night", which meant all of us going for a walk along the beach in the rain and getting completely soaked and sandy! However it was a good chance to get to know them before we leave tomorrow! Back at the house we ate an interesting dinner of croissants, pasta and sausages, which neither of us particularly liked, joined by her neighbour and her two young boys. (The neighbour had bought cheese cake which we were delighted about, however they forgot to defrost it so we ateit frozen... not so good!) We managed to watch a bit of T.V. and get some reading time in before heading to bed. Tuesday we spent ... read more
Hiya, Thursday we got our first lie-in in what seems like years! After dragging ourselves out of bed we realised we had no milk for our porriage so we had to rush to the shops to buy some and visit an ATM - something that occurs all too regularly on this trip! After booking our bus for tomorrow morning to Nelson and hostels in Wellington and Roturua for next week, we got a shuttle bus to the glacier. We visited ''Peter's Pool" first with amazing reflections of the galcier, then walked uphill for about 20minutes for a slightly disappointing view of the glacier form a distance. We then walked along a rocky, freezing cold path to the face of the glacier, where we could see small pin pricks way above us - which were people climbing ... read more
Hello last Monday we spent the day at Lou's only venturing out for a smoothy late afternoon when we realised we'd been stuck inside all day. The smoothy was basically a litre of yoghurt... which even for us was tough going and made us feel a bit sick! It was a bit of a non day really as we spent the rest of the day watching films and eating oven chips!! On Tuesday was got up early with the intention of going to Palm Beach (where they film Home & Away), however it was raining, so we did a load of washing and had a leisurely breakfast, only to find the weather had changed and was now brilliant sunshine! We decided to visit Manley instead, going by Ferry and using up our weekly travel cards! The ... read more
Hi all! OK so I left you last Monday when we were about to get our overnight bus down to Melbourne. The journey started with a bang as, as the driver was pulling out of the bus station he stooled and we ended up gliding down the road without the engine on, coming to a hault in the middle of a cross roads and holding up all the traffic! However, apart from a few other blips in the drivers driving (we assumed he was new as he didn't do the announcement either when he boarded the bus, telling us his name etc - which is the best bit!) we were soon on our way. I had totally run out of water, but had to wait until 3.15am (our first stop) before I could get any! Spitting ... read more
Yo! After a relaxing morning on Tuesday we finally got our act together and went off to the Koala Sanctuary - which was AMAZING! We watched - from afar - a snake show, which was basically a long talk baout why you shouldn't be afraid of snakes and why people shouldn't kill them... im not entirely convinced... however, next thing I knew Sophie was suggesting we go and confront our fears by touching a snake. It took me a long time to realise she wasnt joking, and I have to say I felt no better for having done it and the experience wasn't enjoyable in the slightest! Albeit the snake wasn't slimy, but the feel of it was not pleasant! Sophie got far closer to it than I did, enough to actually be in the same ... read more
G'day all! Tuesday was a very chilled day... whihc mainly consisted of watching T.V. in our pyjamas and eating a lot! In the late afternoon we felt that we should go running - considering we had bought running clothes in KL with the intention of starting to exercise on a regular basis once hitting Australia! We went off by ourselves so as not to distract one another... and both returned sweaty and red faced! I managed to jog for 45minutes before almost passing out and vowing never to do this again! However, I know that I have to to counteract all the food we eat! After dinner and more T.V. Sophie decided she didn't want to come out, so Ross and I went to one of his friends houses... by car with me driving!!! Yes thats ... read more
Goodday all! We have now arrived in Australia, after a fab week in Singapore with Mum... Last Tuesday we dragged ourselves out of our pit, after our last night in the creakiest bed ever! Double bed's now being the norm whenever either of us moved, we woke the other one up! The bus to Singapore was boring, however, we were both excited for it to be over, as this would be our last bus journey in South East Asia... although I think secretly both of us had managed to convince ourselves this would be the last one we would ever do - forgetting all the even longer bus journies we still has ahead of us! Upon arrival in Singapore we were shocked at all the rules and regulations - even instructing us how to queue! We ... read more
Hello, its so hard to remember last weekend as this has been such an eventful week! We ended saturday by going to the revolving restaurant to celebrate two months of being away. We ate ALOT however, we both started to feel sick as I dont really like heights and it moved very quickly. Although we did get some great views of the city! Sunday was a boring day! EVERYTHING and I mean everything was closed! We attempt to visit the fort and museum, but it wa all closed. We had a late lunch at an Irish pub and attempted to watch a film but they were only showing Malaysian Films so that was a nono aswell! I have to admit we spent most of the day on the internet! However, we did manage to book bus ... read more
Hey all! I left you last Sunday afternoon, so just to finish that off... We went to a Scandinavian restaurant for dinner, and inside the cover was a picture of the owners with Leo Di'caprio! Very exciting! We felt almost famous ourselves! Dinner was really good too. There had been another monsoon whilst we were inside the restaurant so outside was damp and still very hot. Back at our guesthouse we met the three girls we had travelled with and sat and chatted with them for a bit. "The geek" with her goggle specs - which magnified her eyes about 1000 times their normal size was annoying but the other two were really nice so we were glad we were getting the ferry to Phi Phi with them in the morning... however it turned out the ... read more
