Friday 5th November 2010 Travel on to Cambrils near Tarragona for the weekend where the boy’s birthday treat trip is close by. Walk into Cambrils town along the promenade warm and sunny somehow does not seem to be bonfire night ! Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th November 2010 Port Aventura – Universal Studio’s theme park in Spain is only open at the weekends at this time of year and although Woody Woodpecker is the main character Halloween is the theme and proves to be popular and busier than expected. This does not mean we don’t get to ride multiple times on our favourite rides and have a great time. Monday 8th November 2010 A quiet day on site after the weekend’s excitement and a chance to catch up with domestics. Tuesday 9th November 2010 Trip by ... read more

Friday 29th October 2010 On today the short distance to Vilanova i la Geltru and a campsite we have stayed at before when we came for a couple of weeks several years ago. The site has improved its facilities further since we last visited and we take advantage of the indoor pool sauna and Jacuzzi which are free to use during the week. Saturday 30th October 2010 Settling in on site we put up our new awning for the first time as we plan to be here at least a week. The site is busy with Spanish weekenders preparing for Halloween and All Souls holiday on Monday. An English holiday company is holding an end of season sale where we are able to pick up books and dvds plus a new chair for 6E to replace ... read more

November 2nd 2010

Monday 25th October 2010 Onwards and southwards again this time to the package tour resort of Lloret de Mar. A slight mishap occurred on the way when we hit a sleeping policeman a little too quickly ( note to self - remember to brake in advance every time ) - causing the pull down bed above the cab to part from its fixing and decend onto the driver and passenger ! Fortunately Max was able to hold it aloft like Atlas whist I pulled over to make a temporary repair. Lloret proved to be less than motor home friendly with parking being impossible even at the half empty coach park at the edge of town where we were turned away. However we did get directions to the only campsite open in town and after booking in ... read more

Thursday 21st October 2010 - Trafalgar Day Agde ( France ) to Sant Pere Pescador ( Spain ) a drive south through the wine growing country of the south of France. Villages with names familiar on supermarket shelves at home - Corbieres and Fitou . In addition to the normal wine, olive oil etc. on sale direct to the public other services were widely on offer which appeared oddly out of place amongst the vine lined route. Passing through one village we were invited by a large sign to visit the Cave de Clappe ( I kid you not ) but decided to decline not knowing what we might find or catch ! Arrival in Spain was through the busy French border town of Le Perthus which appeared to be doing a lot of trade in ... read more

Monday 18th October 2010 Windy but never 110 kph and bright and sunny ! With the fuel situation deteriorating we set off to fill up and found diesel at a large supermarket at Istres where we also stocked up on groceries. We decided conserve fuel and head further along the coast towards Spain rather than divert inland to Arles, Nimes and Avignon. So we set off on what turned out to be a fabulous drive across the Camargue east to west. The Rhone reaches the sea here and rather than the expected bridge we found that a short ferry crossing was how it is done. 5Euros and on you go, the wind and current conspired to push the ferry downstream from the off and a course upstream was the solution we were glad to disembark on ... read more

Friday 15TH October 2010 Moved about an hour along the coast today to a campsite on a promontory at La Tour Fondue near Hyeres. This is the most southerly point of the Cote D’Azur and is very popular with the diving and watersports fraternity. The Tour Fondue ( the melted fort ) is closed but from the beach and harbour you get a good view of the Iles D’Hyeres a popular destination for day trippers. Saturday 16th October 2010 After lunch we set out on foot to explore the area. The promontory has large salt pans which are home to wading birds particularly flamingos. On the west coast a long narrow beach attracts wind and kite surfers and as today the mistral continued to blow many were out on the water. We sat in the shelter ... read more

Monday 11th October 2010 The forecast rain arrived in the early hours this morning and had largely subsided by 0830 when we came to. Breakfast was delivered to the van door in the form of fresh bread, croissants and pain au chocolat and shortly after we settled our bill with reception ( a very reasonable 60 Euros for 3 nights all in ) and set off towards Cannes. Traffic was heavy using the local roads and if it is this bad in October I’ll give the summer here a miss. After Cannes the traffic eased and we took the scenic Massif de Esterel to Frejus and from there onto Cavalaire sur Mer where we found the campsite de la Baie close to the town and harbour. Tuesday 12th October 2010 With France on strike protesting about ... read more

Friday 8th October 2010 A nice slow drive along the Mediterranean coast into France this morning, then we joined the Autoroute A8 at Menton to bypass Monte Carlo, Monaco and Nice - all of which we intend to visit in the next few days using public transport from our site at Cagnes- sur- Mer. We arrive on site late morning, establish camp and have lunch before venturing forth by local bus to Nice. Nice is an elegant city near to the sea, a little less so the further inland you go. We wander down from the bus terminus to the Promenade des Anglais and take the sea air whilst the boys rush to the water’s edge and throw in stones whilst dodging the incoming breakers. The hotel La Negresco is a striking landmark here with its ... read more

October 7th 2010

Friday 1st October 2010 Rain in the air and time to move along the coast taking the motorway through the mountainous terrain to Sanremo ( the city of flowers ) on the section of the Riviera the Italians call the Riviera dei Fiori. The site here is by the sea and with lots of facilities including a pool, Jacuzzi, sun terrace, small private beach, table tennis and free wifi. As the forecast for the following week is good we book in for 7 nights at a discounted rate. As an added bonus we discover that there is a good supermarket 100m away and the local bus passes right outside - sorted. Saturday 2nd October 2010 A chill out day making use of the site facilities and the boys improving their ping pong technique Sunday 3rd October ... read more

Monday 27th September 2010 Today a drive from Palma ( Fidenza ) to the Italian Riviera ( di Levante ) and Liguria using the Autostrada A15/A12 over the mountain range of the Appennini. ( note - this caused us some amusement as it reminded us of a visitor from Scotland to our home in Yorkshire who said she had long looked forward to visiting the backbone of England the Apenninis, more correctly referred to as the pennines. However, first a stop to stock up at a large co-op supermarket that had a fantastic range of breads, pasta, cheese, cured meats and wine, I could have stayed longer… The drive over the mountains of about 100 miles was superb, mainly over viaducts and through tunnels winding up into the clouds and then down steep sided valleys. Eventually ... read more
