I woke up in Epernay from a good night sleep; I rolled out of bed and took my shower first. I then woke Lori up as I headed down to breakfast. Lori came down 45 minutes later boasting how fast she was this morning. Yea, if I have my way she’ll be taking 5 minute showers and dressing as she’s getting in the car. We loaded up the car and headed toward Reims, Lori has mastered driving in France. She’s maneuvering thought the circles like a formula race car driver. As we came down the main street in front of the Reims cathedral the question started to flow. Lori was so wowed by the size and detail of the Cathedral. How, what, when, who……. You know I have to agree Reims cathedral is pretty incredible. I ... read more

We woke up at 7 AM, well at least I did. I woke Lori; she said she in a groggy voice slept soo good. I told her to go and shower first and that I would be second. That was a mistake! After 45 minutes and twisting my legs like a bread bag tie, I yelled out what are you doing in there? She came out I’m just putting on my makeup. I’ve gotta go!!! She said all you have to do is tell me so and she let me slide in, I felt like the horse that just ran the Kentucky Derby, if you know what I mean. I showered and headed down stairs to have a famous German Gusthaus breakfast. Yes, it was GREAT, I started with soft boiled eggs; ask Kirsten how much ... read more

The flight over was the smoothest I’ve ever flown, I’m sure Bea had everything to do with it. We had a great hot breakfast and landed on time. We breezed through the security check point and found the rental car counter. I picked up the car; they gave us an automatic VW and we met up with Bea and said our last good buys. Lori and I loaded the car she jumped in the navigator’s seat and I got into the pilot seat with all intensions to take us out of Frankfurt. We promptly got lost! Once the navigator and pilot synchronize their frequencies the VW was heading toward Worms. We arrived at Worms quickly found a parking spot and took off to explore the city center. Worms dates back to 400 AD, the city was ... read more

Well Lori and I have discussed going to see the Tour De France since we both watched it when she was in the 3rd grade. A lot of issues have always stood in the way but this year it looked liked the stars aligned and we’re doing it. We left early to go to the Orlando airport knowing we wouldn’t get on the first flight. Well we got seats on the first flight and we were in Atlanta by 11:00. We quickly headed to the Delta departing flight boards to see which gate we were to leave out of and our flight was not yet updated. I told Lori it’s in “Concourse E” my favorite place when I travel through Atlanta. Lori quickly corrected me saying no it’s laving from “Concourse T” look at your boarding ... read more

It’s 5:30 AM again and this time I have to get up and get ready. We have to leave by 6:30 -7:00 for Stuttgart. It’s normally a 2 hour drive from Wangen up the autobahn. Maria prepared breakfast for us and she made us soft boiled eggs, they were soo good. We ate, said our goodbyes and took off. Whenever we travel in Europe, we hardly ever travel the autobahn. And when we have, we’ve never had a car that could keep up with the traffic flow. That all changed when Kirsten pulled up on the autobahn this morning. Kirsten’s eyes had a look like I’ve never seen, however I did enjoy it. She said in a low voice let’s see what this baby will do. She red lined all 5 gears and settled in on ... read more

Mooo….. clang clang clang Mooooo….. Kirsten sat up straight in bed, it was 5:30 AM, did I tell you it was AM. The cows are back, they are back. Huh, The cows are back, I’m so excited, What time is it? Its @#&%@@@ 5:30 AM. When I woke up for the second time, Kirsten was standing at the window and watching the cows. She had already taken her shower and was dressed. She looked at me and asked what are you waiting on let’s go. I got up grumbling and headed toward the shower. Soon I was dressed and ready for breakfast. We headed up to the breakfast area and selected a table on the terrace. The sky was clear and we had a perfect view of the Zugspitze. We could see a very faint view ... read more

The sun woke us up as the days before. We had a great breakfast and we headed up the mountain to see how far we could get up by car. After 10 minutes, the road ended and we were on foot, we walked for 2 hours 1 hour up and 1 hour back. It was a very nice walk the sky was clear and air was crisp. Once back into the car we headed for Garmish, this is the town outside of the Zugspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany. It was a beautiful ride driving over the mountains; I was singing all the songs from the sound of music. The Hills are alive with the sound of music, ok so I’m not Julie Andrews but I can carry a note even if I have to use ... read more

We woke with the sun shining through our window. We both slept very hard. We packed our stuff logged onto the computer and updated the BLOG and checked on the flights leaving Zurich. They didn’t look good, I told Kirsten it was ok for her to go and I would follow on the next available flight. Her response cannot be entered into the blog. Basically, she said we would travel together. After putting everything into the car, we went to have breakfast. Lara our hostess was sadder than we were about leaving. She loves Kirsten and wants her to stay and help her with her running the B&B. Kirsten was rolling around the idea until I popped that bubble and said Mandy, Will, Mark & Caroline need you more. By the way breakfast was delicious. As ... read more

We woke up with the sun rising over Dolomites. Our hostess had our breakfast ready and her two beautiful kids were running in and out just talking and playing. We took off toward Trento knowing we wanted to find wineries to taste the area wines and cheeses. The first one we came to was the Family Winery of the B&B we stayed at, Mazarado. It was huge and as we expected, very nice. From there we continued on SS12 heading up into the mountains. We quickly found a second winery and wellness hotel. We stopped and had a glass wine and olives. Very tasty, after finishing, we then continued to go up, up, up into the mountains. Kirsten was hoping to find a farm that would have a cheese tasting or some samples. Well that didn’t ... read more

We had breakfast at the hotel and reviewed our plans for today. We decided to hop on the Autostrada and make good time going to Verona. We drove through the Po Valley and it was flat and lots of fields of stuff growing. No Roman ruins that I could see. We made it to Verona before lunch parked the car and headed off to the arena. Verona’s Arena is the third largest and is the only one that is still being used today. It was very impressive. We walked through the tunnels where slaves and gladiators once stood, sat in the stands and once we conquered the lions, we were ready for lunch. I was hungry, so we set of to the Piazza Erbe (is named after the Herb market that was held there for over ... read more
