Arrived in Siem Reap in Cambodia on Monday 22nd. I must say I was expecting a much rougher place. The plane was full with mainly Japanese tourists with the high tech cameras. Talked to some of them and it seemed that most of them had traveled for 10 or hours from Tokyo just to see Angkor and take some pictures and go back. The airport was faily newly built, and it looked like a huge exotic hut, nice and clean. Unfortunately Hygene is not one of the bestfeature in Vietnam, and as much as I wanted to stay there and explore the country more, I was not able to cope with the eating part properly. Kind of missed my chelo kababs... One of the locals recommended this restaurant on the outscirt of the city which was this hang out place for young Vietnamese. Got up at 6am and felt like partying (jet lag). used the shutle bus between the hotel and city centre, and got offer a tour of saigon by one of those vespa riders in town. Seeing the traffic, I realised that would be the quickest way of getting around here, so after some bargening. I started the tour. I managed to see the Notre Dam (Effect of french colonisation), the reunification plaza, the zoo, and finally the war musem. After almost 22 hours of travel time, I landed on my first point of arrival in south east asia. Never "Truly" knew what jet lag was until now. This is also my first arrival to a still communist country. Ho Chi Minh or "Saigon" is the largest and most modern city in Vietnam, but the communist feeling was felt soon after arrivial. The city has about 8 million population, and and I think there are about 8 million vespas. :) The Windsor Plaza hotel looked nice on the outside and very spacious inside. One of the wonders of the world. Headed out from Vegas towards Grand Canyon West. On the way we tried to find the new Skywalk and explore that. After hours of driving on dirt roads, we ended up at a site close to the sky walk. what we forgot to consider was the time difference between Nevada and Arizona, and hence, missed the closing time by one hour. they were charging $75 for walking on a glass bridge over the canyon. Got here on Friday 6th. the weather has not been that great until now. Yalda has got me an apartment, right by the beach. Drinking beer and eating Gheime and chelo kabab by the pool. I have been to Bevely Hills, and Santa Monica. Saw Owen Wilson and his brother in club in Santa Monica. Celebrities are everywhere here and not too difficult to spot them from time to time.
