April 16, 2007 Masiye Teen Camp Camp Theme - The Storm is Over -Set your Future in Motion Thursday April 12, 2007 - The weekend started out with tragedy. Literally 2 minutes before we were to leave Dakotah slipped on the concrete out back and scraped up her leg, elbow, cheek and chin. There was some serious pain happening. I got out the first aid supplies and started to work cleaning out the gravel when the call came. They are on their way to pick us up. We had to decide whether we were going to call it off or not. April 11, 2007 Wednesday The visit out to Khayelihle was cancelled today so we got a few other things done. Khayelihlle (Kye-leet-lee) is a place where they help orphans and street children. They help them with rehabilitation, finding out why they are on the streets and try and get them to go back to their families. Some of them are orphans and that is why they are on the street. They are taken care of there. So this morning we were able to meet with Lovemore to finalize out trip to Livingstone and on to Namibia. We will be traveling through [View Full Entry]

Things I didn’t get to April 7 Weather I guess global warming has its affects in Zimbabwe too. When we first came here it was the rainy season, but there was no rain. Now we are going into the dry winter, but its raining at least once a day! And this isn’t ordinary rain. It pours! Nice sun in the morning, sheets of rain in the afternoon. The real problem is there still isn’t enough water to fill the reservoir. Electricity In Kamloops, we almost never have power outages, but here, they have them daily. They’re not actually po [View Full Entry]

No fruit …Nope not much for fruit here. It’s expensive. Had an Avocado sandwich for lunch yesterday picked off the tree in the yard here. Shelly we love you too. So much and you know I would give you a giant hug. Deed, thanks for the comments. That is encouraging and Dakotah IS doing great. She went swimming yesterday in Jenni’s Brother’s pool. It was cold from all the rain. Uncle Barry and Aunt Bernadette we love you and yes a Canadian Tire would be nice. Angie, we love you too. Thanks everyone for your comments. April 7 and 8, 2007 Easter Sunday I helped Pastor T with some of the things he had to arrange on the computer again today. His boys were out busy as teenage boys are so Dakotah did some reading. Wandered around outside and then watched a movie. We are going to have to find her a new book pretty soon. She’ll be done reading Odyssey anytime now. Sunday we attended Revival Center for the Easter service this morning. The weather is a bit chilly but warming up in the afternoon. Oh ya, Pastor T arranged for a cell phone for us [View Full Entry]

April 6, 2007 Pastor T’s House http://www.christshope.org/ Today I spent most of the day teaching Pastor T about the computer. He doesn’t have much computer skills but learns fast. This man has organization in his head. Pastor T has been responsible for getting us to most of our work so far this trip, with help from Jenni who documents these things and helps to keeps him on track. Christ’s Hope International- Zimbabwe is the organization that I am volunteering with here in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe area mission is in it’s infancy right now. In Fact Dakotah a [View Full Entry]

Pastor T’s church April 1 Wow, pastor T’s church is so alive! Do you know how sometimes you have to have nothing to gain everything? Well, pastor T’s church is a living example of that. The church building is just a foundation that doesn’t even have the start of walls, let alone a roof. So, until they can build, and finish the building they are praying for no rain on Sunday. They are praying for no rain because what they are doing church in wouldn’t keep them dry. That’s because what they’re doing church in is almost like a tent, [View Full Entry]

Wednesday, April 4, 2007 Hope Fountain - Fountain of Hope. Today we went out to a rural area with a program from the Revival Center Church. In the area called Hope Fountain there are a large number of rural homes where grandmothers are taking care of several young grandchildren. The landscape is rolling with shrubs, or small trees throughout and every so often there is a small hut about 12 ft by 6 ft with a corrugated tin roof and the ground has been cleared around to dirt surrounding the hut. Some have a wire fence with laundry hanging on it; [View Full Entry]

Chipangali March 31 Finally we got to Chipangali. We thought we weren’t gonna go because molly (jenni’s car) wouldn’t start. But, luckily jenni’s brother was able to jumpstart molly for us. There were a lot of loins there. One of them tried to pounce on me thought the cage (it seemed a little crazy), it scared the lights out of me! But the other ones were ok. Most of them were lying around, but there were two young males that were playing and having fun. But a certain leopard wasn’t quite as happy. She was hissing and trying to attack us [View Full Entry]

April 2, 2007 Masiye Camp- Narrative Therapy Workshop. This was a training day. Salvation Army Masiye (Ma-see-a) Camp was putting on a workshop this week taught by a couple of ladies from Netherlands and Australia. This workshop aimed at teaching the skill of moving aside the negative character defining story of a child’s life to find out and make room for the second, positive story for the child to redefine their path in life. This was a four day course but Dakotah and I could only stay for the first day. The content of the course was fantastic. Even in the [View Full Entry]
