KG VI School for disabled children, home visit, and Mahlabzulu March 29, 07 Pastor Temba had some running around to do this morning so we got to the school a bit late. Dakotah and I split up this morning. She went over to the senior art class to teach them to add beads to their hemp art and I adventured back to the kindergarten (grade zero) class for their reading time. The teachers took the opportunity to go and view the articles for the fete tomorrow so left me in charge of the class. There was a student studying Montessori teaching [View Full Entry]

Jenni’s house march25 Wow church was fun today! Today we went to a different church, it was really fun. There were so many people there. That’s what their biggest weakness is. The only thing they lack is space. But they don’t want to move because they are in the middle of town and are very accessible by bus routes. I wouldn’t wanna come there late; I wouldn’t have anywhere to sit! When we left the church I experienced the biggest downfall in all different countries. We were sitting in the back of the truck (I love [View Full Entry]

Jenni’s house March 22 We got to teach kids! Well actually we read to them but it still makes a difference. It was kinda like a one to one reading thing but instead of taking one kid out the class during class we actually read to all the children then read with them one by one. We have been teaching (well, reading) for a little class of twelve. The class is a special Ed class, that’s why we need to help them read. I never thought of myself as a teacher. Not that I really am one. Jenni’s house [View Full Entry]

Monday, March, 26 Today was a rest day. We had a nice visit with Dorothy this morning. She walked over with her baby CJ to pass on a children’s book for us to read. We had discussions about Sunday School teaching. Dorothy has been teaching Sunday school for a long time and her daughter helps out too now. I showed her the program that I had brought with. She loved the little attention getting activities that are in that program and took note of the Prayer from the Heart and Read your Bible with Purpose activities. Dorothy says that Sunday School [View Full Entry]

Something I forgot to mention, the lakes are stocked with Bass, Smallmouth Bass. I even saw some that the park ranger had just caught. He showed us his fishing rod: a stick with a piece of line and a hook and worm. Apparently, the Bass here are a little less smart than those at home. These ones come right up to the shore to take the bait. And Dakotah was a little surprised to see the park ranger with a semi-automatic riffle over his shoulder. And when we got home Jenny told me of news of that little boy with AIDS, [View Full Entry]

We saw White Rhinos Mar 24 We headed out this morning to Motopos National Park just outside of Bulawayo. This park is known for its balancing rocks and Bushman paintings. There is also a game reserve in part of the park where the White Rhinoceros resides. According to our guide, Lovemore, this is the only park in the world that you may walk with the Rhinos. They are an endangered species and were almost wiped out as the Rhino horn was believed to be an aphrodisiac. So, our guide, Lovemore, picks us up from the house at about 10am and we [View Full Entry]

CHI Social Dinner Day Saturday March 17, 2007 Continued: The youth group visit … On of the boys played Guitar and another played a drum and they worshiped, and they Prayed. This was fantastic, even though we couldn’t understand the words as they sang and prayed in their native language we could feel the power of those young people reaching out for God. The leader talked about giving thanks for things that we take for granted every day like breath of fresh air and the fact that we can walk or run. We only stayed for a short time then Pastor [View Full Entry]

Home March 12 Tomorrow we leave for Africa. Well actually we will leave for Vancouver to get to the airport to fly to England to fly to South Africa to fly to Zimbabwe. Yes I know, it is very confusing but the main thing that was the problem was the restriction of the weight of the luggage. We had a hard time balancing out the weight but it’s all done. Now all we really need to do is wait. Air Canada plane, in f light March 13 I am now on the plane heading to London. We have a long [View Full Entry]
