Greetings! Last we heard our intrepid travelers had flown from Macau, returning to Bangkok for a rest, and last chance sightseeing before venturing forward into the mountain kingdom, Nepal. China! Speeding down a beautiful highway on route to Nanning, the story continues. At this point we have met a friendly Austrailian couple during the border crossing headed in the same direction. As we arrived in the city we found a room at the hotel connected to the bus terminal. A reasonable room for a fair price. Hello all, Welcome to the Cambodia installment... From Bangkok we boarded a bus to Siem Reap. it was only too obvious at the border that we had entered a different country. Paved roads turned to dusty mounds of speed bumps unintended to slow down vehicles. From a big aircon bus we changed to a run-down school bus, non shock absorbent type. traveling at a breakneck pace, we sqinted our eyes and covered our nose and mouth in order to endure the dirt and bugs now protruding through the buses interior. Hello All! Well, as of the last update we were heading out to go treking in the hills. Soooo much fun! We spent three days and two nights out in the hills. We visited three tribes of hill people ... the Karen, Lisu and Lahu, we hiked through country about 40km from the Burma (Myanmar) border. Incredible beauty and people. On the third day we did some bamboo rafting and had an Elephant ride which were both great fun. We got back to Chiang Mai and did nothing but sit by the pool for a day and relax. Hello all! finally made it out of the toxic soup they call Bangkok. We're in Chiang Mai now and loving it. We've had two days to relax and shop at the Sunday market here and it was amazing!!! we got a bunch of stuff for our home... where ever that ends up being when we finish traveling. The train ride up here was cool. We caught it at about 2:30 PM and it traveled over-night up north. We decided on second class sleeper car so we would have a berth to sleep in and boy were we glad. Oh my god we're not in Kansas any more! Well, we made it to Thailand. My bag didn't show... two days and it got to me Phew! We really are having a great time!!!!! This is a bit of a culture shock. Really diferent here. We're still in Bangkok, quite the jungle in itself.
