South America » Bolivia » Potosí Department » Villazón February 10th 2011

Here we are, last day in Bolivia. After Tupiza (and a nice hot shower..) I am heading to Villazon to cross the border and go to Salta, Agentina This country was amazing. It is told to be the most authentic country of South America. Well, this is mainly because it is the poorest ! But somehow it is one of the richest: Life is like nowhere else, friendliness of people, landscape, .. Of course this is very cheap: You sleep for less than 10euros, and with 15euros you are like a king. Food is similar, for 10-15euros you have an amazing dinner with lots of wine (like one bottle each) in the top range restaurants. What was amazing is the lack of infrastructure: Most of the towns and roads are unpaved and you heavily depends of ... read more

Hola todos, this is one of the most amazing trip I´ve done in my life. So, it all started the day before, when we left Potosi. Let´s say that we wanted to leave this place as quick as we could to reach Potosi. We took a bus at 19.30, and I can tell you it was one of the worst trip I had. The bus was promoted as a 5-stars bus. Well, I guess they were not talking about the comfort but the number of stars painted on the bodyside.... But inside was even worse. The smell was equal to the farm, and not the one growing vegetables, rather growing pigs. And I have to mention the road, or rather the "gonna a be a road is few years time", because it was like a riding ... read more

South America » Bolivia » Potosí Department » Potosi February 3rd 2011

Hola chicos and chicas !

South America » Bolivia » Chuquisaca Department » Sucre February 2nd 2011

Coucou !

South America » Bolivia » La Paz Department » La Paz January 28th 2011

Hola todos, Getting super-bored of the extra-touristic place of Copacabana, I decided to take a bus to La Paz yesterday evening. La Paz: Oh what a mess !!! This city is just incredible. It barely stops. Cars everywhere, people even more everywhere, very noisy. I mean, you can grab a minibus just anywhere in the street. And I mean everywhere, like in the middle of a round-about, on the left lane of the Prado (the main avenue...not in Marseille folks !) and sometimes next to the walkside ! What makes it crazy is the variety of ride, I mean all kinda buses, from the old Chevy from the 50´s to the ´04 Hiace via the 60´s Mercedes Benz VIP. Plus taxis and bikes. Add on it the location, at 3700m, ie surrounded by hills and mountains, ... read more

South America » Bolivia » La Paz Department » Copacabana January 27th 2011

Hola todos !! This morning I arrived in Bolivia. I took a bus from Puno, Peru to Copacabana, Bolivia. Basically I went along the Lake titicaca and I crossed the border at This time, everything went very smoothly. The bus stopped at the peruvian migration office, I got my exit stamp, then walked 300m to the bolivian migration office and got my entry stamp !! Simple as that. Then, the bus dropped us at Copacabana at 12h45. I wanted to go straight to the Isla del Sol, but the boats leave twice daily, at 8.30am and 1.30pm. Well, I had enough time you will think. Indeed, I had enough time theoratically (45 min lag) to take the boat. But I had no cash on me, and believe it or not, there is no ATM in Copacabana ... read more

South America » Peru » Puno » Lake Titicaca January 26th 2011

Hi guys, tonight is my last evening in Peru. I am in Puno, on the shore of the Lake Titicaca (Wait for the post about the trips on the lake !). 3800m of altitude, pretty cold, and under a crazy rain like I have ever seen in my life ! The roads are transformed into torrents, impossible to cross the streets ! Tomorrow I go to Bolivia Well, I really love this country ! It offers so many landscapes. I went close to the cordillera blanca and in several andean places, over 3800m, and I went to the beach and the dunes surrounding Lima. And I did not even go to the jungle !! So many things to see. The country offers so many contrasts. From Lima, very cosmopolite city, where half of the population lives ... read more

South America January 25th 2011

Hola amigos !!

South America » Peru » Cusco » Machu Picchu January 22nd 2011

Hello my dears !! This morning, I am heading to Aguas Calientes to go to Machu Picchu (MP). Never heard about it ? Designated in 2007 as one of the new 7 wonders in the world, and part of the World patrimoine of UNESCO since 1983, the MP was discovered in 1911 by the american archeologist Hiram Bingham. MP (which means Old mountain in Quechua) was apparently a residence of the inca emperor Pachacutec. It is located between the mount Huyana Picchu and Machu Picchu, on the oriental side of the central andes. This is it for the history. You can always refer to Wikipedia if you want to know more... Lets start with the negative points: - Despite being the most visited site of Peru, the access to MP is very difficult. You either get ... read more

South America » Peru » Cusco » Cusco January 18th 2011

Hola todos ! This morning I arrived In Cusco, the gringo city. After my trip to the Colca Canyon, my legs hurt soooo much that I cant walk anymore !! So, 1st impression of Cusco is that it is really a gringo city. You almost see more gringos than peruanos. And the peruanos are all trying to sell you something: A tour, a hat, some weed, some coke, a free-drink in the bar, the best dinner in town, and so on. The funniest part is the crowd of gringos. You split them into 3 categories: 1st, the wannabe explorers dressed with brand new gears straight from North Face. They spent more money in equipments for 1 week than the flight ticket price. 2nd, the over-cool backpackers. They are dressed with dirty and torn clothes, with flip-flops ... read more
