So today is Tuesday and we only have three more days left before we all go home. I can't believe how fast this semester has gone by. It's funny because sometimes I can't imagine living life back in America now that I've adjusted to living in Italy. It's crazy to think that I've actually lived here for about four months. Today I just woke up and wen to see Gene Baldini for a final meeting. Afterwards, I took all my paintings off of the canvas with a pushpin because there was nothing else around =( I'm really glad that I don't have any other work to do before I go back home. I'm so sad that I can't just walk around and all of a sudden turn the corner and see the Duomo. When does that ... read more

Today I took my first final in Italian. It was a little more challenging than the past tests have been but that's okay. Afterwards I took one of my last trips to the market =( tear, tear... I got my usual focaccia and 200gm of tacchino con due fette di formaghi di fontina. Good times. I pretty much fell asleep during my drawing class. It was so boring. Somehow Gene Baldini managed to keep us there for two hours and that stunk. We also had our housing inspection and I think they're somewhat out to get us because they just came into our apartment and looked around and criticized us a bit before leaving. For dinner we ended up having a full course meal. It was great. I love cooking with these girls and I'm really ... read more

Mass at the Duomo

Today I went to church at the Duomo. It was interesting to see how their mass was done. I felt like an outcast a little bit though. It's bad enough to be protestant and going to a catholic church, but in another language as well? However, it was all still very beautiful and it was quite the impact to be in one of the most well known churches in the world. In the afternoon, I just worked on my art project. Literally, it was just Erica and I in the apartment sitting and doing work from 1 to about five thirty. I worked on my drawing for my final project in my Florence Sketchbook class. It actually took a lot more work than I was anticipating. I did a small piece in pen and ink. It ... read more

Tonight I had the best meal that I've ever had in Florence. It is definitely up there in the list of top meals I have ever had. I went to a restaurant with my roommates as well we Lynn. We went to a place called la Giostra. It was amazing! The place was created by these two princes who wanted a place where their family and friends could sit down and have a good meal. And have a good meal we did! We also saw pictures of some famous people there like Josh Hartnett and John Travolta. This place was set on a little street and we almost missed it. Tonight was the night that we were going to have the full on Italian meal con molti piatti. So we get there and sit down and ... read more

Tonight we had our Christmas party =) My apartment went to Molly and Amy's apartment and we had appetizers, wine and punch. We had spinach and artichoke dip, melon and procuitto, roasted vegetables, sliced eggplants roasted with pesto and mozzarella, and these cheese pancake things (think like a potato latkah of some form). I'm really glad that I got the chance to try the melone con procuitto. It was so good. I hope I can make it at home at some point. ... read more

The other day we made stuffed eggplants for dinner. I can't wait to try some of these recipes at home. We sliced the eggplants and stuffed them with brown rice, and roasted vegetables (zucchini, tomatoes, red and yellow bell peppers, and onion. Then we just put some olive oil on top and put them in the oven. Later that night, Laura came over to hang out with Erica and I. That was fun. Laura's dad ended up having a business trip to the UK and stopped off here in Florence to see her for two days. I wish my mom got to visit me. She definitely would have loved it here. Perhaps another time. Erica's friend, Lynn, from Binghamton who is studying in London was also visiting and that was a lot of fun as well. ... read more

Being in Florence for the past three and a half months, I have noticed that the Florentines are huge on fairs and markets. This month is a twenty day long Christmas market. It's in Piazza Santa Croce and there are rows of different goods and food from different places around the world. A large part of the market is German and so there were hot dogs and other salamis from Germany. There was a cheese stand from Holland and I tried pesto cheese. It was green! Very bizarre tasting, I don't exactly know if I truly like it or not. There is also a special German spiced wine that is served hot. It's somewhat like a cider and it's very sweet so Erica and I usually split one little cup of it. When I went to ... read more

So today was a lot of fun, my apartment didn't have much to do for the day and so Erica and I decided to embark upon making pumpkin stuffed raviolis. It was so cool! We made our own pasta and rolled out the dough just by combining flour, egg, and a little salt. We baked the pumpkin and bought ricotta cheese. We mixed it all together and then we worked with Maxann and her friend, Will, to stuff and form all the raviolis. ta da! buon appetito! ... read more

Not being home for Thanksgiving was really sad, but hey, you've got to the make the best of it. So my friends and I decided to have a big Thanksgiving meal and we would all bring a dish. It was so much fun and granted, it's not like being at home, but our pot luck Thanksgiving dinner was delicious. It was a lot of fun making all the food and even in Italy, if you're going to be having a Thanksgiving meal, you have no choice but to be cooking all day long.... read more
