Its pretty tough coming back to the mainland after the Galapagos, especially to a capital. On the plus side we were able to eat Indian food which made a very pleasant change! Quito had a bit of a reputation for being a bit dangerous which made us quite aprehensive. We had no problems during our stay thanks to a network of police standing on every street corner in the touristy parts of the city, but the potential troublemakers were there to be seen. And that was such a shame for us as the old part of the city at night was [View Full Entry]

Amazing Galapagos South America » Ecuador » Galápagos
Everyone has heard of the Galapagos Islands, and know its full of wild animals that are as tame as your pet dog, but we were still a bit skeptical if its really as nice as everyone makes it out to be. We are not avid bird watchers or anything like that, and hoped we wouldn't be disappointed by our trip.

The first 'must see' area of Costa Rica for us was the Nicoya Peninsula in the north west. The only way to see this area is by renting a car, so we spoilt ourselves (and blew our budget) and got ourselves a nice little Toyota Yaris. We were originally thinking that a 4by4 would be needed, but the nice guy at the rent-a-car agency explained us there was absolutely no need.. mmmm.

Unfortunately somethings are just too much for the Toyota Yaris
All down the Nicoya peninsula is great for surfing
No competition for the waves

Our first night in El Salvador was best described as uneventful. After bussing it from Guatemala City to Santa Ana we arrived weary but looking forward to what other travellers had described to us as a hidden gem in Central America. After a predictable īgetting lostī episode on the local bus (going into and back out of the city, as we planned to get off when we saw something that looked like a downtown, but never did..), we finally found one of the few hostels in town. It was around 7pm so we set off to explore the city in search [View Full Entry]

Coctails in the making

This short blog covers Guatemala, Honduras and Belize - they didnīt take us too long to travel through so it seemed fitting to do them together. The first interesting thing was border crossing from Mexico into Guatemala - it was like no other Iīve seen.. No border patrol, no guns, no border to look at actually. We just got out of the bus, walked down a muddy path and caught a boat along the river, and without realizing it we were no in Guatemala! Too easy! Our plan was to quickly visit Tikal (the famous ruins in the jungle in the [View Full Entry]

As you can see from the diary date, we are running a bit behind hand on these blogs.. So in an attempt to try and catch up we thought we would let the photos do the talking. Needless to say we had a great time in Cuba, met lots of great people and have stories to tell when we get back. One area we didnīt have time to see but heard from many others its well worth a visit is Baracoa on the south east coast. So finally the long awaited travel has started.. Much planning (?) and now the results!
