Its pretty tough coming back to the mainland after the Galapagos, especially to a capital. On the plus side we were able to eat Indian food which made a very pleasant change! Quito had a bit of a reputation for being a bit dangerous which made us quite aprehensive. We had no problems during our stay thanks to a network of police standing on every street corner in the touristy parts of the city, but the potential troublemakers were there to be seen. And that was such a shame for us as the old part of the city at night was really beautiful, and having to be protected by the police took the edge off it a bit.
After enjoying Quito´s old city, international food and shoppings centers we headed to the creatively named town of´Banios´, or 'Bath'. It was a beautiful, relaxed little town nestled in amongst mountains/volcanos with thermal baths to sooth away the days hiking aches and pains. Sadly on our hike we managed to loose Briggi´s mobile phone (mislaid rather than stolen), which dampened our enjoyment of the town. So if you are hiking to the main viewpoint of the town and find a black Nokia 6610 on the path you know who to contact, please!?!
Quito utan delnek vettuk az iranyt es hogy kielegitsuk Andy kielegithetelen turazasi vagyat megalltunk egy Banos "Furdo" (gyakoribb jelentese WC) nevu nyugodt furdovarosban. Sajna a turazas rosszul sult el, mert elhagytam a telefonomat, ami kisse elrontotta a kedvunket. Tehat, aki Banos fo kilatojanal jar es rabukkan egy fekete Nokia 6610-re tudja kit keressen!?
Next stop was the city of Riobamba which is the starting point for a famous train ride on the 'Devils Nose'. The city itself wasn´t must to write about,
but the train ride more than made up for it. Some people found it a bit boring (judging from the fact they slept throughout the journey), but we really enjoyed the views right from the start (as a thousand blurry photos of mine prove).
A sinek illesztese helyenkent erosen hianyos, igy a vonat neha nagyot "ugrik". Hat felulrol valoban fantasztikus a latvany.
On our way to Peru we stopped in a couple of town to take in the colonial buildings etc, but not being city lovers we passed through quite fast.
We did enjoy our time in Ecuador but the mainland experience was completely overshadowed by our time in the Gallapagos.
