The Orgiva Trip Europe » Spain » Andalusia
Dear Bo & Dud, Where the time has gone since you returned home I have no idea. We have been so lucky with the weather; it has been glorious with sunshine all day, every day. We have been told that this is very unusual and that we are experiencing an extraordinarily good winter. This morning we needed to go out and ‘do’ a big shop, all the heavy and bulky stuff. It’s been so nice to shop locally and even the girl in Antonio’s (the greengrocers) has started to smile despite the fact that I only spend a few Euros at [View Full Entry]

Dear Bo & Dud, How wonderful it was to have you come to visit over the New Year. I hope that you enjoyed your stay with us as much as we enjoyed you being here. Getting here on New Year’s Eve was brilliant and I’m pleased that you were able to join in the festivities and the Spanish traditions. The red underwear is worn to bring good luck - I hope that our fellow campers will appreciate some of the luck Dud hoped to share with them when he exposed his Calvin Kline’s to all! Likewise the tradition of eating 12 [View Full Entry]

Where Did Last Month Go ????? Europe » Spain » Andalusia
Ola Bo & Dud, Thank you so much for forwarding our Tax Disc - it has arrived safely. What a time we’ve had without it. In France and Portugal not having a tax disc in date does not seem to be too much of a problem; we thought that the same applied to Spain - how many times have I said to you “never make assumptions”? We never gave it a second thought knowing that the new Tax Disc was bought paid for and in your safe keeping awaiting your visit in January. That was until Pete got pulled over at [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Torre del Mar on Sunday 4th - we’d been looking forward to this day for some time. You will remember that we had a fly away holiday in January to have a look around sites in the area and chose this one because it ticked so many boxes. However, sometimes (or [View Full Entry]

Cadiz, Trafalgar & Sherry Europe » Spain » Andalusia
Ola Bo & Dud, Another action packed week. Last Sunday we moved just to the north of Cadiz on a site at El Puerto de Santa Maria. This is within the Sherry triangle, so guess what - a visit to the winery of Tio Pepe owned by Gonzalez Byass. Sherry is something that I’ve only ever used in cooking and it’s usually been something like Harvey’s Bristol Cream - not really my tipple. This visit however has introduced my taste buds to something completely different. Wine has been made on this site since 1835 and is still run by the Gonzalez [View Full Entry]

Ola Bo & Dud, We’re back in Spain - and staying just outside of a most unusual town, El Rocio. We were told about ‘horse town’ but the description didn’t do it justice. We’ve just never seen anything like it and never imagined that such a place could exist outside a 1950’s Wild West film. All the houses, bars and shops have hitching posts outside for horses. There are no roads or pavements - it’s all sand - so no paths, road markings or signage. When taking the car into the town, it’s a case of ‘chicken’ when you come to [View Full Entry]

Bom Dia Bo & Dud, How we love Portugal - 4 hours travelling south from Evora and we’re at the seaside again. Before we set out on our Great Adventure, we bought a comprehensive map of Europe and asked family, friends and colleagues to write on post-it-notes places we should not miss, and stick them in the book. We didn’t fancy the ‘touristy’ bit of the Algarve and a note from my colleague Roger Wilkinson pointed us towards Sagres (this is the most south westerly place in Europe). We found a site which comes highly recommended and settled for this week [View Full Entry]

Hello Again, We’ve been so very lucky with the weather so far - but this week has been almost too much to hope for. We’ve travelled inland about 100 miles and the temperature has gone up several degrees. The site we are staying on is within walking distance of Evora but it really is too hot to walk - fortunately there are plenty of places to park, free of charge, just outside with city walls, so we’re taking advantage of this. The site also has a lovely pool heated to 23c perfect for a swim at the end of a long [View Full Entry]

Bom Dia Bo & Dud, Thought we needed a mid-week update, so much is happening at the moment. Don’t know if I mentioned but this weekend has been a Bank Holiday. We were told about a festival that was ‘not to be missed’. The village of Vila Franca de Xira lies just outside Lisbon on the north bank of the Tagus River; the village is known for being one of the prime places for bull breeding in Portugal. Twice each year they have a festival which involves running the bulls, and bull fights. The main street of the village is split [View Full Entry]

Bom Dia Bo & Dud, Apart from obrigado (thank you) - this is the full extent of my Portuguese, and I’m not sure that the people understand even then what I am saying. Any road up, where were we? Thank goodness I keep a diary or I think we would have forgotten more than we remember. Before leaving Porto we decided that an outing was in order to follow the route of the Douro River - the Douro Valley is where the grapes are grown for the Port and Wine of the region. Again it was one of those ‘this is [View Full Entry]
