A Saint and a Port Europe » Portugal » Northern » Porto
Bom Dia Bo & Dud, Week 10 and we are ending the week in Portugal. On Tuesday we had 2 new experiences. Our first was catching a bus into Santiago de Compostela and getting back without a hitch; our second was finding a Spanish Post Office and buying a stamp to post a letter to Torre del Mar - success on both counts. So, Santiago de Compostela, the end of the pilgrim route - I’ve heard it said that it’s the journey that counts not the arrival, and speaking as one who enjoys travel I can acknowledge this. However, if I [View Full Entry]

Mountains & Fishing Nets Europe » Spain
Ola Bo & Dud, Another week in Spain goes whizzing by. We were going to move on last Sunday but it was extremely hot and not a good day for travelling - good job we’re so flexible in our arrangements. It was on Monday that we moved on about 100miles to Camping Playa Oyambre, just to the west of Comillas. We’re using several points of reference to find sites but some of the directions have to be followed to be believed and the Spanish clearly do not believe in pointing out where sites are. Emily (our sat nav) has her moments [View Full Entry]

15th September 2007 Ola Bo & Dud, We are breaking new ground and are in Spain!!! It’s been an action packed week - on Monday we had a day out in Bordeaux. Although we’ve travelled to this area many times, we’ve always been here during August and it’s far too hot for a city visit, so now was our chance. It is a fabulous place - the old architecture sits well alongside modern redevelopment, and, the whole place was buzzing with students and rugby supporters. We walked the length of the Rue de St. Catherine (the pilgrim route to Santiago de [View Full Entry]

A Jungle, Dune, Figs & a Jim Europe » France » Aquitaine
Dear Bo & Dud, We were quite sad to be leaving La Sirotiere in Vernoil. The awning carpet had gone into jungle mode and, as it made getting into the fridge difficult, we thought we ought to be moving on. Ann & David had made us feel very welcome and as you can see from the photograph we had plenty of space to relax in. Robert & Peter were good company, and gave us a parting gift of a bottle of Saumur Fizz and a lovely card - we shall be enjoying this later on this evening while watching Last Night [View Full Entry]

Fougasse and Chateau Europe » France » Aquitaine
31st August 2007 Dear Bo & Dud, I’m writing a day early this week as tomorrow will be a full day of packing up in preparation for the move to Grignols. I’ve bought the dog biscuits, and put them in the usual place; it will be interesting to see if Aina remembers us and where to find her morning snack. The sun arrived back last Saturday and has continued for most of the week. Having been very sedentary for the last month we decided it was time to get out and about. On Tuesday we paid a visit to Bougueil market [View Full Entry]

Dear Bo & Dud, What a week!! We knew that there would be times like this, but I don’t think we expected it to happen this soon - rain. Rain at some time every day, and, all day on Wednesday, every single bit of it!! I’ve been in touch with Debs & Keith in Grignols and they are also having lots of weather - it’s all over France apparently. Ann & David (our hosts), have lived here for 9 years and they have not experienced a summer like this one. Global warming! We had global warming in 2003 when everyone was [View Full Entry]

18th August 2007 Hello Bo and Dud, Weather wise, we’ve had a very unsettled week; hardly surprising as Wednesday was a French Bank Holiday and it rained for the best part of the day. This was rather disappointing as there were several ‘fete du village’ around the area. The local village advertised a sort of tractor rally but we decided to give this one a miss, in favour of Bourgueil, who were having a wine festival - free wine tasting all day!! Unfortunately, the rain was so persistent that we decided not to go; however, we did manage to have our [View Full Entry]

11th August 2007 Bonjour Bo & Dud, The week before we left home we were both like tightly coiled springs about to ‘boing’ off in any direction at the slightest touch - if you could see us now, in complete contrast, so relaxed we’re almost horizontal. We spent last weekend following the shade of an oak tree which is in the middle of the field - temperatures got up to 35c. This included eating al fresco (with me in my cossie) and Howard found an ingenious way of keeping the wine cool and close at hand with the help of a [View Full Entry]

4th August 2007 Bonjour Bo & Dud, We’re here then - after all the planning, settled for the time being at a place just to the north of Saumur; called Vernoil. We left Sutton Scarsdale on Sunday 29th and had an excellent journey to Kent where we spent 2 nights at our usual pre-departure site in Appledore. We spent our first evening watching hot air balloons in the distance and a barn owl patrolling the field in front of us looking for his dinner. Monday started as an ‘admin’ day, phone calls to make and emails to send off. Howard was [View Full Entry]
