... and i must be having fun because i haven´t written on my blog for a fortnight! so the last group of kids came and went in a flash... one girl got thrown out for smoking weed and some others got cautioned for having a party in the boys bedroom (half of the guests being girls!) other than that, we enjoyed the usual fun and activities of camp life and i particularly enjoyed a day trip out to lerma, which was beautiful... saw lots of churches and monuments set in the vast spanish countrside. saying goodbye yet again was sad... especially [View Full Entry]

orla, me, laura and michelle... out in burgos

so after the kids left us last weekend, we chilled out for a couple of hours in the kitchen (as the cook had left so it was our first time to have a good ol´ nose around!) and then michelle, orla and i got ready to hit the town... it would have been quite scary to stick around in the education centre for the entire evening as it reminds me a bit of the place in´the shining´... i thought i was the only person to pick up on this but jamil, one of the other teachers, also made a comment about [View Full Entry]

but this job IS actually easier than my job in japan! when i´m actually with the kids, it´s hard work and exhausting but just sooooo much fun. i love having the mornings and early afternoons off... the other day, i walked to the nearby park to have an ice cream and then carried on walking for another 20 minutes and hit a small little beach... so peaceful and very relaxing indeed! we organised a set of relay races last week which went fairly well... i think michelle and i had the most fun out of everyone as we had to demonstrate [View Full Entry]

camp life is all fun and games... i´m really enjoying the sports and workshops that i´m doing with the kids... we took them to the park one day and all enjoyed an ice cream and some chilling out time which is a perfect way to spend the summer in my opinion! we took them for a walk one evening so that they could take their torches out with them... i had a lovely chat with some of the girls and its great that they are able to speak such excellent english - AND be happy to have a go at attempting [View Full Entry]

more trees and flowers!

camp life is faaaaaabulous! on sunday, i met up with the other teachers and monitors in madrid and we travelled to burgos... a beautiful 3 hour drive through the spanish countryside. the camp director, laura, told us horror stories about previous camps she has worked at and how bad the kids have been... and how the teachers had been even worse and had to be sent home due to their very un-camp like behaviour! fortunately that won´t be the case this year (touch wood)... there is a GREAT team of people here... there´s 7 of us altogether... laura is in charge [View Full Entry]

hola chicos and chicas! yup that´s right... heidi is now on adventure #2 after realising that i still have very itchy feet and want to be travelling/living/working abroad for just a little while longer! i´ve just spent the last few days relaxing in madrid... its over 30 degrees here and therefore muuuuuy hot! i´ve tried not to do so much rushing around and sightseeing as i don´t want to tire myself out before starting my job... so i´ve been relaxing in some of the lovely parks and gardens in between jumping into shops - only to enjoy the air-conditioning of course! AHHHHH this is the trouble when you don't write a diary for a while... you forget what you did and when you did it! so, i'll summarise my main highlights of vietnam and let the photos do the rest of the talking! in a nutshell, hanoi is CHAOTIC to say the least! the traffic occupies 4 lanes (when there are only 2 painted on the road!) motorbikes are everywhere and move in any direction - there is no sticking to the left side of the road here! crossing the road is also an experience... traffic won't stop for you even on [View Full Entry]

what an incredible city! so i arrived on tuesday after taking the bullet train from kyoto and was able to admire the stunning views of fuji-san (mount fuji!) on the way. matt arrived at the hotel literally 10 minutes after me and we couldn't believe what an amazing hotel it was... with views over tokyo's skyline. we chilled out and had a peaceful walk around the hama-rikyu gardens not too far from the hotel. we wandered around the many restaurants in ginza to find somewhere to eat but were both feeling very indecisive about what we fancied so eventually settled on [View Full Entry]

crazy fashions in harajuku!

laura and i arrived at kyoto station at about 3pm and met up with mindy who had arrived a few hours earlier (she's an early bird like me but didn't have the difficult task of trying to wake laura up after a night out on the sauce!) we found the lovely little hostel where we were staying and were really chuffed with our bargainous private room! futons on the floor, free internet and free breakfast all for only 15 pounds a night each. we set off for gion and walked down some beautiful, traditional streets trying to find somewhere to eat.
