World cup 2010 The country is readying itself for the FIFA world cup soccer championship in 2010. There was construction every where, expanding airports, roads and building stadiums. I got my T-shirt and my cap, I'm ready!!! If you want to see SA go now! go next year! go before the world discovers it and it gets expensive. img=http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/mydash/South%20Africa%202008/DS... read more

Ramdon thoughts about my first trip to Africa This was my first experience traveling in a group, it had it’s advantages and inconveniences but all in all it was a good experience. I’d definitely go back to SA because there were things we didn’t see and all the moving limited out contact a bit with locals. We did a ton of ‘touristy’ things, I’d like to return on a more laid back visit where everything isn’t scheduled and as confined. But i'd like to do other African countries before i do SA again. A few days into the trip I realized that the people we met, be it at the restaurants, the hotels, the vendors on the street, these friendly and helpful people lived through the most horrific things. I think that’s a real tribute to ... read more

Day eleven: July 14th robben island - 6th district museum - sea lions Last full day in South Africa and also our Bastille Day - Happy independance day France! This day was a full day, our visit to Robben island had to be moved up as bad weather was heading our way. After breakfast at the hotel we headed to the 6h district. During apartheid the people of color (black- Indians-jewish- muslims-Chinese) were forced out of their neighborhood which was leveled to provide housing for whites. Since Democracy came to SA the original inhabitants of the neighborhood are given first preference to move back. We visited the 6th district museum. We then headed out to Houtbay fishing por... read more

Day ten: July 13th Durban - Cape town We were allowed he luxury of leaving at 9:30am we headed back to the waterfront for more pictures and a bit of shopping. This is the day I lost my cell phone which worked perfectly well in South Africa except in Swaziland, but you already know my theory on that. As i posed for the picture bellow i still had the cell phone, later that day i realized ity was gone, i believe it stayed right there in the grass. We also visited the Indian market where authentic South African souvenirs made in China were being sold by Indians. We said goodbye to the best driver in the World Benny! We collected a tip for him. We said goodbye at the airport and took BA to cape Town, ... read more

Day eight July 11th: Greater St Lucia Wetland Park There was a lot of eating (great for a foodie like me) and a lot of driving on this trip, I’ve never napped so much in my life. I can only hope noone else got a similar shot of me. We took a cruise on lake St Lucia where we saw many a hippo and crocodiles and a few birds. We had lunch on board. More pictures to illustrate. img=http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/mydash... read more

Day seven: July 10th Swaziland - Ezulwini Valley - Hluhluwe We had breakfast, went shopping at the craft market then said goodbye to the kingdom of Swaziland. Some fellow travelers from our group got some hefty phone bills when they checked out that morning, ranging from 1000 to 20000 rand for one phone call each. Hmmm I guess the king needs to support his large family somehow (wink). Don’t call home from Swaziland. We cross thru immigration for the second time in 24hours and crossed back into South Africa img... read more

Where I got an extra stamp on my passport... read more
