Looks inviting Our lives have been sadly vacant of full tilt, multi -course meals, with the exception of Mark and Darin's extravaganza. The black (green) pasta is intriguing. We hope to see it all in person!
Great sharing...... and keeping up... Thanks and glad you seem to be adapting.... tried to call - several times - finally got through - only to get a busy signal - likely you were up to this!!
Try again later - after the festival? Anyhoo; guess who has decided to spend the evening in the van - in the garage? Guess he wants to be there if I decide to go somewhere ......... has been a bit reluctant until I took him for hours Wednesday - Dr. Whites; Vets to ask about a Boise license; Patrick's football game - where several made him feel as if he might be king....... can't wait to check now and get his "look" when I turn on the light in the garage!!
Yea, we're getting along..... Peace n Love - with Joy included, MA
Funny is as funny does... I really have taken a shine to the long cut-offs. With a bandanna on my head, possibly an eye patch...aarrr matey...I could be a pirate! Yes, you are correct; the apartment is quite nice. And reasonably priced by US standards. We are very close to the water and in the nicer part of town. In any other seaside community that apartment would be quite expensive. And we couldn't afford a housekeeper. I will be posting nieghborhood and town photos in the next day or two. Doesn't our landlord's mother remind you of Aunt Bea from the old sitcom The Andy Griffith Show - the best sitcom ever in my opinion.
Your friend,
Opie
Clam what? Hey the apartment house looks a lot like southern CA. It looks a lot nicer than what I expected. Very comfortable. Funny how when you speak of the required trials of getting a simple task completed, I feel my blood presure going up. Speaking of Southern CA, my million dollar idea is to open up a Home Depot there. I Think that will help both yours and my blood presure, while making us a lot of money at the same time. Despite these frustrations it sounds like you and Beth are acclimating well..... maybe a bit to well on your part.
CLAM WHAT? In the states thoughs are called HIGH WATERS! Typically worn only by thoughs who have no dilusions of adequacy. Its virtually impossible for them to have any kind of dilusion of adequacy, because their awareness most often never goes beyond their pocket protectors. I know it seems, I am taking a hardline here. I am not, because I am in complete agreement with, When in Rome do as ...
At the same time, I promise not to share thoughs pictures to anyone else you know, particular thoughs in the "A" team.
Take care
Wes
Your to funny....or....maybe I am to funny. No your to funny
Muy Italiano!!! (clarification) The t-shirt comment was a bit confusing. I meant to say I am hard pressed to wear a t-shirt underneath my regular shirts as per my regular habit. Wearing two layers is entirely too warm and results in a clammy feeling and being unable to cool off.
Kindred spirits The Judy and I are kindred spirits! The Judy undoubtedly has the critical eye for style and fashion. The Manolo would be hard pressed to ever find her unworthy of his critical praise. I, personally, have yet to find any instance of a fashion crime or misdemeanor on her part.
Muy Italiano!!! Quien es mas macho? I didn't take long to adjust to them. They make a lot of sense in this warm humid climate. I find it difficult to wear t-shirts because then I feel clammy and unable to breathe. One needs to wear lots of cotton and linen so as to allow evaparation to cool the body. I used to hate wind but now look forward to any breeze that comes my way.
Cute pants Wow, I have some just like them! The Manolo would probably agree with the European sentiment that short pants are for children, so when its too hot for long pants, this is the obvious fashion choice. I also live by this philosophy.
The freeway or the frontage road? The jug of wine was acceptable for 60 cents..."a modest, don't have to think about wine while I putter around the kitchen getting dinner ready" kind of wine. If we were to have company, I would go buy a nice bottle.
Freeways are all about convenience and efficiency; frontage roads are for accessing all the little byways and lanes that catch your attention. Life here is a frontage road. More on this topic as life progresses, but I have to get to work
Israel
Life in Italy Although I can appreciate the slowness and depth of life there, I wonder if i could ever adjust completely? I am SO American! Just look at how I take vacations--"We're burning daylight, get a move-on!" LOL!
I like the idea of small separate shops for all of life's necessities--food, wine, bread, hardware, etc. You never did say how the jug wine tasted--was it worth the 60 cents?
The Manolo The Manolo and I do share very similar views on life, so we much approve of you celebration choice. It sounds like a great adventure (Italian style) so far. We can't wait to see photos and get some regional food reviews.
blood presure arisen I think Italy sounds like a great place to vacation. But, given that I do not like loose ends hanging around for my entire life, let alone a week, I would have very high blood presure. It sounds like you are adjusting reasonable well. Just remember, if it gets to bad take three deep breaths and more vino.
How Much? I just finished reading all of your entries. Sorry Issi, I am not laughing at you. I am laughing with you...PROMISE. I have known you to long and your discription of the entire process came to mind all to vividly. Beth you are such a trooper (HANG IN THERE!). My advise for the both of you is more whin......ning - I don't mean whin........ning - I meant more vino, vino, vino..........
Take care and leave a light on.
Would You Believe!? Wow! After just now getting to read your journals for the first time, it all seems very overwhelming! I hope you're soon allowed to relax a little and settle in before your first day of school. I'm sure, before you know it, things will fall into place. Beth (what is your fiance's name?) Greenway and I miss you both!
Grazie mille! Wow! Thank you so much for all the kind words, Israel! I'm glad you enjoyed the evening...it was a pleasure to cook for you and your friends. Darin and I are missing you both already. You've been gone over a week and so far nothing added to your blog...getting a little worried! Hope all is well...
Let me be the first... after Beth to add...quit your whining! We don't feel sorry for you! We are, however, looking forward to sending you off in style and then paying a visit so we can enjoy together many bottles of vino rosa de la casa (still the only Italian I know, but is there a more important phrase?). And pardon me if something like this comment appears twice; I sent the first without being a subscriber, and it didn't seem like it was going to show up.
Let me be the first... after Beth to add...quit your whining! We don't feel sorry for you! We are, however, looking forward to your send offs, and then to hooking up with you for some vino rosa de la casa (yes, this is still all the Italian I can utter, but is there a more important phrase?).
observation Okay Israel... this is your wife... maybe if you spent more time working and less time whining (or should I say wine-ing?), the work would be completed in time for some flyfishing... "I'm just saying..." ;-)
I was sitting in an Irish pub and the crowd was doing singalongs. A friendly chap asked me to stand up and sing and I hesitated. He said to me, "If you don't sing you'll never be one of us. You'll always be just a tourist." So I sang.
I travel to meet the locals and go to the places they hang out for dining, drinking, and fun. I go to be more than just a tourist. Who wants to be treated as "just a tourist?" It is a hell of a lot fun to be more than just that.
In the words of my hero, Anthony Bourdain: "Be a traveller, not a tourist." ... full info
