Happy Dad's Day Thanks much for your sharing.... so looking forward to sharing first hand as you return; Blessings with continuing fun, learning and sharing.... and fun surprises!
You're Invited...next year. The party at the bottom of Warm Springs celebrated it's fourth anniversary. Three people host the party and are referred to as the "Scorpion Group". (The party is celebrated at the bottom of Scorpion slope...with the table facing the mountain.) The three principals are Steve Rivera, Napa, CA, Robert Budihaus, Portland, OR and Steve Riccabona, Sun Valley. Riccabona's restaurant cordinates the event and arranges food and wine to be provided by both the SV Lodge and the restaurant. The event is usually the Sunday before Easter...but dependent on the forecast. We always want a sunny day for the lunch and wine tasting. Rivera Vineyards provides free wine for everyone to taste. We estimate that we served 250 people this year and everyone is invited. In addition to the food and wine, the Scorpion Group skies the mountain in the morning passing our tip envelopes to lift operators who did a great job throughout the ski season.
Now that you have my email address, we can stay in touch and make sure you attend the event next year...no formal invitations necessary. Steve Riccabona, 208-721-7808.
This is a very nice seaside I went last year in the june month, this is a very nice seaside.
Do you want a great suggestion about the accomodation?
www.otranto.puglia.it, the managers of this apartment are kinds.
Fingers Crossed The weather is bee-yoo-tee-full, lots of sun, gentle breezes, bearable humidity, cool evenings...hmmm good time to go and lounge about at my favorite pub...and write about it and photos to boot! Can't I just win a little (piccolini) lotto???
Aren't you lucky! Lucky you that Beth is a technical gooroo! Way to go Beth! To get together with Queen Elizabeth, didn't you hear that she will be visiting the White House sometime really soon? You are too late! By the way, how is the weather? It hit 80 today in Boise and Nampa. beautiful, blue skies and wonderful sunshine; we are all getting ready for BBQ weather, but hopefully we will NOT have what you have had the pleasure of eating!
joking I think you sent the record for the most ass jokes in a blog entry!!!! My American boss is a horse lover so I'm not allowed to talk about this. I find it pretty good too.
The Assman Cometh Glad that you are enjoying them. I do plan on working on a travel book for people that want to do more than a tour but not sleep in hostels. Anything but a regular job will do at this point!
The Assman Cometh It is interesting that people that come here either really like the life here or rally don't like it. The perfect solution for me would be to live half the year in the US and half the year here in Italy. Now where will the money come from? Hmmm that's the rub.
you are so entertaining Israel, I have to say I really look forward to what you and Beth are doing next! I hope you are keeping all of these blogs and print a book! Keep up the good work and sending those updates. They are fun to read. You should videotape your next trip abroad and document it as well. :) when you coming home?
Un Spuntino Hiya Viv, no I have not received any photos of you and and any fish. Stephen King and urchins? That can't be any more weird than eating cow eyes when mom made barbacoa! Or the cow cheeks, or the tongue, or the brains with scrambled eggs...hmmm I think that sound in the background comes from people losing their lunch. Har dee har har!
ugh!! Those urchins remind of the movie "The Langoliers", I think that is how it is spelled. It is a movie based off Stephen King book, no I don't read Stephen King because I am a scary cat. I caught the movie as I was scaning;actually channel surfing the other day. Well I am glad you enjoyed your urchins! Did Doug ever email you a picture of me and my fish!! Yes I caught a fish!! Talk to you later.
Un Spuntino We have had the grossest head colds ever! We were sick for two weeks and we got so far behind we have just begun to break even. Plus our internet connection is soooo slooowww and the laptop freezes up continually. But we eat well and very good wine is available for very cheap prices. Eating is like a religion with the Italians and I already belonged to that faith! I have other posts that I will be adding in the next few days. And in two weeks we shall head north on spring break. We will be skiing at a place called La Thiule. Lots of photos and posts to follow.
Un spuntino She was most definitely a bit hesitant, but in the end a real trooper and proceeded to eat some ricci. She did however opt out of licking the urchin bowl clean. I think that if the roe had been a bit "squirmy," she may have been an onlooker. Beth's feet are visible in the photo with Sara and Vincenzo.
We've lost you! This latest missive really made me laugh, and wonder if we'll see you again State-side, or whether you'll just eat, drink and gesticulate yourself to a slow, expatriated death (but not until the next century, at least). Worse ways to go than that! Keep us posted!
Daytripper Series Sorry about taking so long to respond. Been sick and fell behind on correspondence. Hmmm...one week to travel and try to see "everything"...and you are a student to boot. I suggest that you take 2 days in Florence, 2 days in Rome, 1 day in Naples, 1 day in Venice...splurge on Eurostar tickets (2nd class) to get from one location to the next in the fastest manner (short of flying) possible. In this way, you can see the countryside, get to see some of the "big stuff" and get a broad overview of Italy.
Hello, from a fellow travelblogger! I'm going to be traveling to Italy in a month or two and was wondering if you could give me some advice on getting around. I want to see...well, everything...and thought that a train pass would be easiest. The only one I've seen offers just three days within two months - I'll be in Italy for a week and want to travel more than that! I'm also a student. Any advice? Email: travel_goddess@hotmail.co.uk
Where were you? Wow from your photos I would say you were right behind me at the fireworks. I had a great time there too but we didn't stay very late.
I think there is a concert at the Big Ben tonight but I'll have to check after work.
Jeff
Daytripper pt II Unfortunately we did not for two reasons. One, we got up late and needed to hit the road. Two, from Brindisi to Otranto it wasn't all that interesting and so we figured that it would be more of the same. Now we'll have to do that drive. Our plan is to do the whole peninsula coastal drive from Brindisi to Taranto.
And yes, I think that it would be fun to meet up. Send me your email address via "message" and it will go directly to my email account instead of this open forum. It will be fun to compare notes.
Thanks for responding, Israel
got trip Ciao,
It's Jeffo from Jeff in Puglia. Did you drive the road down the coast from Otranto to St Maria di Leuca. I call that the mini Amalfi coast.
I'm back in Brindisi after the holiday. If you want to meet up let me know.
Ciao,
Jeff
I was sitting in an Irish pub and the crowd was doing singalongs. A friendly chap asked me to stand up and sing and I hesitated. He said to me, "If you don't sing you'll never be one of us. You'll always be just a tourist." So I sang.
I travel to meet the locals and go to the places they hang out for dining, drinking, and fun. I go to be more than just a tourist. Who wants to be treated as "just a tourist?" It is a hell of a lot fun to be more than just that.
In the words of my hero, Anthony Bourdain: "Be a traveller, not a tourist." ... full info
